Great Lakes Water Loss

| The Great Lakes are losing 2.5 billion gallons of water a day! The cause? In 1962, the Army Corps of engineers dredged the St. Clair channel connecting Lake Huron and Lake Erie . They knew the water levels would drop, but it was estimated it would only be a 12 inch drop in overall lake levels. The water levels of the Great Lakes have dropped 30 inches, and there’s no end in sight! I don’t think I have to tell you how important the Great Lakes are to all of us. The Great Lakes account for 20 percent of the world’s fresh water supply. That fact alone makes them worth protecting. Can we really afford to let 2.5 billion gallons of fresh water drain away daily? I am asking our duly elected representatives to look into this problem. I am asking them to help us find a workable solution to this very real threat to the Great Lakes. For more information, please feel free to visit the website www.WeCanSaveTheGreatLakes.com. We need to find a solution to the problem created by the dredging of the St. Clair channel, and we need to find it before it’s too late. Thank you for your time and effort in this very important matter. | |

I live very close to Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes are in bad enough shape with all the pollution! Now we have to worry about them losing water, too? Something needs to be done and soon. I have faith that you will act appropriately. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!
