I am a hunter and as fare as the porcupine caribou migration goes, they will still have thousands of acres to rome free. they will change there movement around to the next path they like. but I am sick of working 5 1/2 hours a week out of 40 just to pay for my gas to get to work and back. This comment has been reported to the site manager. I'm joining this petition to drill in ANWR because it's the right thing to do! You think we're going to destroy the environment by doing so, but your wrong. The environment/ wild life will always find a way to survive. I just can't fathom why anyone would not take advantage of the oil we have HERE, to help our own people. You'll do anything for another country, do this for us. I will be watching how you vote, and how you vote will determine how I vote in your next election. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. It's about time you people in congress quit blaming everyone else and start working for the good of the country. Drill in ANWR, off the coast of the US and anywhere else we need to to become energy independant. Its time to tell the environmental nut jobs if you don't like it, move to another country if you can find a better one. This comment has been reported to the site manager. Remember how the talk was that the Alaska pipeline, before it was built, was going to destroy all the wild habitat for miles around it for various reasons? And oil would be leaking all around it for various reasons? Hasn't happened has it? With proper care this drilling won't be the big impact some are afraid of either! It's time to get off our duffs and take some steps. Sure, this won't fix anything today or tomorrow, but if we don't act soon, 10 more years will have gone past and we will be still talking about how awful the oil situation is. It's time for action not procrastination. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I'm a independent trucker and the cost of diesel is really taking a big bite out of my profits. i would like to us to start investing in converting coal to oil, and off shore drilling, as well as drillig in ANWR. We need to start building more refineries and updating the refineries already in operation and start building more nuclear facilities. This comment has been reported to the site manager. I have no idea why any sane person would oppose drilling for our own oil. We won't even have to use that much of it. When the oil producers of the world see us pursuing our untapped domestic supplies they will realize that we have had enough of their high oil prices. They will be forced to lower their price or risk loosing the business they have from the US. By tapping into our own resources we can lower the price to the public for the oil based products that, at the moment, we are reliant on. This will buy our country time to develop alternate fuel sources. In 50 years, no doubt, our technology will progress to the point that we will be able to significantly reduce or stop using oil all together. Until then, we must use what we have on our own soil to sustain our country's greatness. Everything is tied to the price of oil. Skyrocketing fuel costs will translate into higher costs for everything we buy. Congress MUST do what has to be done for the good of our country. It is only the uninformed that believe that pursuing our own fossil fuels will, somehow hurt the environment. We, as a country, are at a point that we have NO choice. It is a matter of survival as a country. YOU in congress and the senate represent THE PEOPLE, and the good of THIS USA. We elected you to vote the way WE want you to. Please realize this absolutely needs to be done along with building more, newer refineries, and developing many more nuclear power facilities. Let the oil companies do what they do best...find oil and bring it to market. Do not tie their hands and then try to blame them for the high prices. Do not assign some tax to their already slim profit margin. This tax will have to be passed along to the people of this country and will not help the situation at all. Let them drill ANYWHERE they need to at the moment to get the country back on track. Give them incentives to do it ASAP. Then, while they do what they do best, the rest of the country can try to develop ways to make other means of energy more efficient. Please listen...you represent the people and the country. Thank you. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

The American people of whom I am one are sick and tired of the leftist, anti-capitalist "enviornmentalists" dictating our energy policies. Could campaign contributions by such groups as Earth First, mostly to democrats, have any bearing on the negative votes cast when the question of developing our own energy sources comes up? I, for one, will NOT vote for any congressman or senator who denies our exploration and development of oil recources found on federal lands or in off-shore leases, or who denies the building of necessary refining facilities or the building of nuclear power plants, or who denies the development of clean coal for our energy needs. This comment has been reported to the site manager. When will you, as elected representatives, begin to listen to your constituency? Are you so removed and isolated from the everyday lives of U.S. citizens that you can't see the hardships that are placed on our Nation as a whole by our dependence on foreign oil? It's past time for the EPA to ease up on the restrictions and burdensome regulations on industries in the U.S. It's time for refineries to be built and oil and gas exploration to resume in this country. While a "do nothing" Congress sits on its hands and debates meaningless resolutions, the rest of the industrialized world passes us by and laughs. It doesn't make any sense, or do much good for that matter, to have resourses and not use them. Drill in ANWR. Drill offshore. Mine and use our low sulphur coal. Build nuclear power plants. Stick a thumb in OPEC'S eye and return a lower cost of living, yet a higher standard of living, to the people of this great nation. This comment has been reported to the site manager. At this time in our country, reliance on foreign oil is no longer a feasible option. Between the high prices we are experiencing, and national security considerations, it is unconscionable, that you, our elected representatives, are not passing legislation to permit exploration, drilling, and the building of new refineries on any and all lands and waters. Especially in the ANWR area. You have our most sacred trust in your hands, and our country is being thrown over to those that would let our economy be destroyed. Due a few, high powered environmental wacko lobby groups, and activist judges legislating from the bench, our own resources are not being utilized, and we are sending our wealth all over the world, and in some cases that money is finding it's way into the hands of those that would do us harm.
This cannot be allowed to continue.
I do not blame the oil companies for the prices, rather, YOU, the people in congress that have the power, to let the oil companies do their jobs, and not tie their hands with ridiculous regulations, and outrages taxes.
I cannot stress enough, the time is now for you to stand up for whats right, and do what we sent you there to do, represent us the way we want to be represented, not the way the big money lobbyists wish.

We need to driill anywhere the oil is. At the same time we are doing that we need to do research to find another form of energy and not with our food either. To the respected Gentleladies from California.Do you remember when...I remember when gasoline was less than a dollar a gallon. I also remember that oil was close to thirty six dollars a barrel a few years ago, now it's nearly one hundred and twenty dollars for the same oil. I remember when made in the USA meant something.
Why are we importing so much oil. We have the resources, use them! The value of the dollar is gowing down while the price of fuel and food goes up. I understand the economic principle of supply and demand. I'm demanding that we the United States increase our supply with our oil by drilling in the ANWR. This is a very small portion of land in respect to the entire area. I've looked at the gas prices in such countries as Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and a few others. They pay less than fifty cents a gallon. So why are we paying close to four dollars a gallon? If we increased our own supply, we could compete globally, and cause the global price to go down as well as our own. I also know that Canada and Mexico are the main counties we import from. Why are we giving our hard earned money to other countries for oil we have ourselves? Why are we not creating jobs for Americans? This will create jobs for AMERICANS! Not just the ones doing the drilling, the pipeline workers, the refinery workers, but many, many others. I urge you to see the benefits of this and do what is best for not only the great state of California, but for all Americans! Thank you for your support and time. Your vote and leadership on this will bring greatness to your State and those you represent, Californian's, the 5th largest economy in the entire world. I want you to show the rest of the union, by example and leadership, why this would be beneficial for all Americans by voting and supporting the drilling a small portion of the ANWR. American's will have a greater sense of pride knowing that the fuel they are buying is "Made in America". I know I will!

Long-term goals of a non-oil addicted country are very much needed. However, short term goals of oil independence from countries that would just as soon wipe us from the map than sell us oil, are also needed. Americans will rise up to congress and tell them that we can see past their sham. That we know it is they who inhibit oil companies from doing their jobs, that are causing the high oil prices. Energy independence cannot be solved by higher taxation. That will only further increase the cost of oil. I am just a simple thinking American, along with millions of other simple Americans who can think. Who know that a time of change is upon us. A time that will not send us in a spiral to become like the European Union, but a change that will take us to what America was and can be again; the greatest country in the world. This comment has been reported to the site manager. Greetings Sen. DeMint, Sen. Graham and Rep. Barrett,I wish to add my name to the petition for drilling in ANWR.
I am a professional truck driver who just paid 4.70 a gallon for diesel. (This was in the state of New Hampshire...but I talked to my wife tonight and gas at home is 3.69 at Walmart.) I am a company driver who doesn’t directly pay for the fuel, but I do pay for it eventually. How? Well, no raises, older equipment that is more likely to break down (everything wears out eventually) and other ways too numerous to list here.
My fuel price affects many other things too...like the price of food. While the North East US is always higher in price, I was shocked when I bought food in CT recently. I literally paid twice as much as I would in any other place for the same food. This is a direct result of the cost of transportation and by extension the price of fuel.
The fact that we are not drilling is amazing to me. Considering that President Clinton vetoed the last attempt to drill in ANWR I am shocked it was not considered as part of our National Defense plan post 9/11. As I understand, President Clinton's reasoning was it would take 10 years or more to get the oil out of the ground and would only by about a million barrels a day. If that is true then it was prophetic…that was over 10 years ago and couldn’t we use a few more barrels a day?
While I support Green Energy in the long term, let us not get ahead of ourselves or the technology. Develop both drilling and Green Energy on parallel lines…that way we won’t be bankrupt as a country when we finally don’t need oil and we can sell it at a profit!!!
At current prices we will be bankrupt and not in the too distant future. While we all need to be good stewards of the planet…I expect each of you to be a good stewards of the trust placed in you. Subsidies, kind words and well meaning ideas are not good stewardship…action, in this case, is! Vote to authorize drilling in ANWR and anywhere else we can get oil! Our nation needs it!
Thank you for your time Gentlemen

I would like to take a moment of your time to ask you to PLEASE do your part to ensure that ANWR is opened to drilling for oil. While we may only get a percentage of our oil from O.P.E.C., ANY oil from terrorist nations is an outrage and a slap in the face to EVERY American citizen. From what I have read, there is enough oil within the confines of our once great nation to last for centuries. As my elected official and representative in Washington, it is YOUR duty to do what's best for this nation. Please either sponsor bills or vote in favor of bills that will force the E.P.A. and other shameless organizations to step aside and let America have American oil. MAYBE then we can have reasonable prices at the pump.
I realize that opening ANWR, the great plains, the rocky mountains and the Gulf of Mexico wouldn't lower prices right away, but it would at very least be a HUGE step in the right direction.
Let me add that by failing to do everything humanly possible to allow Americans to access American oil is nothing more than willful insubordination. If, as an elected official, you refuse to do what's right for the American people, then it is your civic responsibility to step down, leave your position in shame and allow legislators who are ready, willing and able to make positive changes.
Thank you for your time.

Alternatives energy sources may be viable in the future and numerous entities are working diligently on this goal. However, until such time that entrapreneurs perfect alternate resources in adequate quantity to supplement our growing enery needs, it is vital that we move in the direction of oil independence. To accomplish this, we must develop the oil reserves that we do have available. The available reserves include1) The reopening of closed sites, formerly classified as "low output" which can now be viable at the current oil prices
2) Drilling in various high potential sites such as ANWR, the Gulf Coast off Florida, etc. It has been demonstrated that this can be accomplished in an environmentally safe and sound manner
3) Advance and promote the development of other energy sources, including nuclear, coal to liquid, shale oil deposits, as well as others that have been demonstrated the capacity to fulfill a larger portion of our energy needs.

The radical environmentalists are ruining our economy by not allowing us to drill for our own renewable resources! This must end! Allow us to drill now and we can begin putting more oil into the flow of the US. We also need to build refineries asap. One must go hand in hand with the other. Our economy and way of life is being threated by a few radicals in our gov't that seek to destroy or dismantel this great county from within. By not allowing us to take advantage of our own natural resources, they are effectively laying our economy at the hands of our enemies. This is rediculous. I don't know if its legal or not but we need President Bush to use an executive order to open all existing land for oil exploration and drilling. Why would we allow China and other countries to drill off of our own coast, and forbid our own oil companies from Drilling? There has got to be ulterior Motives.
Wake up America!
What's next banning the use of coal?
This shouldn't be about politics and political power, its about survival.

Today, as crude oil prices topped $132 a barrel, local regular unleaded gasoline prices reached $3.99 a gallon. The time to drill for domestic oil has arrived. Please work quickly to enact legislation allowing the use of our domestic oil supply.Thank you,

How much higher do the gasoline prices have to go before this action is taken?! How much longer will it be before the gas is so high that I either can't afford to drive to work, or I have to find a way to work a second job? Not having enough gas money to get to work is increasingly a concern for me. I drive 40 minutes one way to work. And living closer to where I work is not an option because of the cost of housing (not to mention the higher taxes). And I am not alone. There are millions out there just like me...worried about how they continue to afford driving to work and feeding a family. Gee...maybe I should just quit my job and get me some welfare. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

We are in a position of energy independence, or very close to it, if we simply use the resources that are at our disposal. We have natural resources of oil and natural gas that can be accessed with minimal impact on the environment, but the politicians in Washington refuse to stand up to the environmentalists. We have other nations drilling off the coast of Florida in international waters, yet we can't.We are paying record prices for gasoline and other energy requirements. It is time for Congress to step up and represent ALL of their constituents, not just bowing to the pressure of the environmentalists. This can be done cleanly and safely. Make it happen.
We need to build some new refineries. This can be done using some of the bases that have been closed. This will not only allow us to produce more fuel, it will put many people back to work and utilize land that is sitting idle.
I urge you to do the job that you were put there to do.

I support my family and pursue the American dream as a union operating engineer mechanic in the pipeline industry. The American economy needs the oil. At one million barrels a day, the ANWAR field would keep us from sending one hundred thirty million dollars a day to our enemies in the middle-east. It would also provide jobs for workers like me and my children. Those jobs will boost our economy. Please stop standing in the way of jobs. This comment has been reported to the site manager. I feel our domestic companies have been hampered in their efforts to provide fuel & energy to us United States Citizens by the multitude of regulations and oversight they have been burdened with over the past 3 decades. We have the technology to drill oil safely. We must get past the "not in my backyard" arguments and free companies to develop fuel & energy that is cost effective. We need to drill and REFINE more of our own oil. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

The time lag between starting to develop our own energy resources and reaping the benefits dictates we start NOW. Oil jumped to 135 dollars today and they are predicting gasoline at five or more dollars by the end of the summer. What are you politicians waiting for? We NEED relief NOW! It is unconscionable that there are so many Senators and Congressman that have been in office for many, many years and have not addressed this issue until there is ANOTHER crisis. It seems that we've had these problems before and no one is doing the "right thing". We NEED to have sensible drilling in ANWR and off the gulf coasts, develop sensible programs for natural gas, nuclear power, oil refineries and other alternatives. But in the meantime the only way to get prices down is to start drilling in our own backyard. Wake UP!!!This comment has been reported to the site manager. It is time for Americans to take responsibility for our gas prices. We MUST start drilling and building refineries for our future. IF WE COULD AGREE TO DRILL FOR OIL HERE IN THE US IT WOULD HELP NOT ONLY FOR THE FUTURE BUT ALSO FOR THE PRESENT. I THINK IF OUR CURRENT OIL SUPPLIERS KNEW WE WERE DRILLING FOR OUR OWN OIL THEY WOULD IMMEDIATELY LOWER PRICES TO TRY TO MAKE IT LESS ECONOMICALLY MOTIVATED FOR OUR COMPANIES TO DRILL. WE NEED TO BECOME INDEPENT OF ESPECIALLY THE MIDDLE EAST. WITH THERE OIL MONEY THEY ARE SLOWLY BUT SURELY BUYING THE USA. Our country needs to become more energy self sufficient. The House and Senate through legislation has prevented this from occurring. We need to immediately start to open up the national lands to the oil companies to allow them to drill for oil and other natural resources. With crude oil over $132/barrel and there is seems to be no end in site, it has been going up 1-2% per day.Why is it that the government has prevented us from becoming self sufficient? Why is it that China and Cuba are dilling off the coast of Florida and we cannot do this?
Our country has more oil that all of the middle east right under our feet. All we have to do is go and get it. The technology used today will not destroy the land.
We need to build more refineries. Our refining capacity has gone down since the 80s due to all of the govt mandates and hoops that need to be jumped through.
We also need to make it easier for the electric companies to build nuclear power plants. This is a very clean energy source and it can be done such that there are not any ill effects from them. For example, France generates approx 70% of their power from nuclear plants.
The entire world thrives on oil and cannot function w/o it. There is adequate supplies but they are not touchable due to govt laws and regulations. If our country is going to proceed forward and not start going backward it is imperative that action is taken now.
I will remember your stand on Energy when you are up for re-election and take it into consideration when I cast my vote.
Thank you

Maybe , some of our politicians in Washington don't have to worry about budgeting for food or fuel. But, many Americans do!

The level of audacity displayed by our own government's response to this crisis is beyond belief. To intentionally stand in the way of business in the land of opportunity and then turn the whole situation around and blame those who are the answer to the problem is down right criminal. The oil companies you people are seeking to rape of their well earned reward for their labor and financial risk would be completely justified to tell all of you to take a hike and move their business out of this country just like all the other buisnesses you idiots have driven out of the country with the destructive level of taxation you impose. Leave the operation of buisness to people who know how to do it and get the restrictions off of the economy. That will leave you guys the time to concentrate on the bloviating that you do so well. You are so concerned about keeping your jobs at all costs, you're listening to the squeakiest wheel special interests (see enviromentalists) that you don't hear the approaching footfalls of the people carrying your pink slip. I am sick and tired of being told by a handful of people that we cannot drill for our own oil resource in our own country, while other countries are drilling all around us. This does not make any sense whatsoever. Since you were hired (voted in) to represent us, your constituents, I am asking you to allow drilling where ever there is oil in the ground in this country. And this should have been done a long time ago. It will take how long, ten years, to drill and get the petro into refineries (we need more) and out the door.
