  3. I am a struggling husband supporting a stay-at-home mom and 3 kids; I work very hard for a modest salary and am blessed to have my line of work however, this economy, with the declining dollar value and inflation driven by the unreasonably high price of oil, is keeping me and millions of other hard working American people from enjoying the fruits of our labor. It is your responsibility to protect the interest of this nation and secure a means to fuel the greatest nation on earth, the greatest in the history of man. If this nation suffers the whole world suffers with us so why in God's name are we allowing a small minority of extremely wealthy people to control a legislative body!? The public's approval rating of Congress is disturbingly low and for good reason: they're not listening to us! We, the American people, are fed up with the environmental extremism that's hijacked my former political party, now it seems to be taking over the GOP as well. We're beginning to figure out that it's not the oil companies who're driving up oil prices, it's Congress!!! because they won't allow us to drill in our own country! God help us if China surpasses us and takes over as the most powerful nation on earth... God help us. Drill here! Drill now! Pay less!

  5. Congressman:
Everyone I speak to knows high oil prices are the fault of enviornmentalists and co-
    ngressional policies they demand.
By telling opeck we will not drill, or make oil from coal, congress has put a rope
around the neck of the American people and their economy.
Now is the time for statesmanship and for courage! If we don't drill for oil,
and synthesize oil, along with conservation and alternatives, our enemies
will tighten the the noose , and your constituents will suffer enormously, because of congressional
    policies.

  7. It is time for us to open up drilling in ANWR and any where else in our own country where we have untapped resources that can help us increase the supply to meet the demand. The people of America deserve your quick and immediate response to this problem. We can no longer sit back and hope for an alternative. The federal goverment has not only held back the construction of new refineriers, but has not allowed the construction of any new nuclear plants to produce the much needed electricity to charge these cars of the future you are all so sure will come.

  9. Between my wife and I, who are now forced to commute together, we put over 100 miles a day on our car. We do ok for ourselves but the cost at pump is definately cutting into our funds and essentially every other working class citizen that has no choice other than to drive to work. Drilling as soon as possible is much better than what is being done right now which is nothing. For those of us that live outside of available pubilc transit, we are fighting a loosing battle. This is really cutting into the pockets of real "little people" Where ya at on this one Obama??????????

  15. There are numerous reasons for the current high price of fuel. One obvious reason lies directly on the shoulders of the U.S. Congress. We must be allowed to explore and drill for our own oil and Congress must step out of the way and allow this to happen now. Remove the barriers that now exist and allow the U.S. to become more energy independent.

  19. This should have been taken care of in the 70's. It wasn't and look where we are now. Stop harrasing the oil company execs. You're just putting the blame on them it so it looks like your doing something when all the while you're only trying to stay in office. If anything, it's you who should be on the hot seat being questioned by the Oil Execs as to why you refuse to allow us to Drill (I don't give a rats behind about the polar bears. We need to get to work and heat our homes) , put up windmills (bye bye birdie) and build more nuclear reactors. Do something real for a change. We need to be independent when in comes to energy.

To you, OUR represenatives; START REPRESENTING YOUR CONSTITUANCY, we are speaking and speaking loud. Allow us to utilize what is ours. Drill, extract, refine and pump our homeland petroleum. Stop sitting back and enjoying all of the perks that our tax dollars are paying for and actually do something that is important.
ACT NOW, ACT SWIFTLY and ACT AS A TRUE REPRESENATIVE OF THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HARD TO MAKE A LIVING. DRILL IN ANWR, DRILL IN THE ROCKIES, DRILL OFF SHORE. It is an insult to have China drilling off of our shores and we can't! The greenest of green in the Netherlands are doing it, why can't we!

  35. I care about the environment, but I care more for us, the people of the U.S. Let's drill in ANWR and off our coasts. If the oil is there, let's get it... I'm tired of paying such high prices for gas.

  37. Stop playing politics with our energy supply and our nations security. Drill here in our own country. We can do this in an environmetally sound way, with very little impact on the area. The is no reason that we can't do this. Do what is right for the American people, not just your party. We need to drill here while we perfect alternative energy sources and I don't mean corn based ethanol.

  41. The argument that the oil companies already have leases and are not drilling is a distortion. These are for the most part DRY HOLES.
We sit on more oil than the entire middle east, yet we can not drill because of some environmental tree huggers.
Lets run out of energy and return to the middle ages .Yeah . Thats the ticket.
You people are too beholding to anti American special interests. Get on our side and approve drilling NOW.

  49. Dear Sirs,
It is of the utmost importance to begin tthe extraction of our own natural resources. I strongly suggest that legislation be passed to allow drilling in ANWR. We need to reduce our dependancy on foreign oil. Please support all efforts to facilitate the mining or extraction of our natural resources. This has a direct effect on our national security as well as our economy.

  51. Let's get real here! Anybody who knows anything about drilling for oil knows that just starting to drill in places we already know are plentiful could very well lead to the discovery of additional sources. If we start drilling our own oil, prices will drop almost immediately for many reasons. First of all, which should be obvious, supply and demand, supply will drastically rise, need I explain? Second you know our suppliers won't want us to be independent producers so of course they (speculators, foreign supply etc.) will drop the price to make it economically more sensible for the US to continue to buy from outside suppliers. Basically it would be a win win situation. We have the technology and resources so lets start using common sense and forget about the liberals' global warming hoax and environmental wackos that try to prevent the drilling of OUR OWN RESOURCES!

  59. Seeing where you gas is free and you don't want to drill in our own country for oil, how about you splitting half of my heating oil cost for my family and I,say around $2.50 a gallon and I'll do the other half. I figure that would run you about $250.00 a month.

  61. Sirs,

It is time to stop the charade. It is time to stop playing footsie with the Oil Barons around the world. After hearing the testimony of oil executives in front of the Senate, the time to act was yesterday. When oil executives testify there are roughly one trillion barrels of recoverable oil in the continental United States in a particular geographical area, it is time to stop the ignorance. The oil companies stood in front of the Senate and said "You are stopping us from exploring this resource".
If that is the case, and from all indications it is, it is time for serious changes to be made in Washington. If the people's representatives will not act on the people's behalf, it is time to replace them.
It is time for the partisan silliness to end. It is time to end the foolish rhetoric about global warming, caribou that will be displaced, some fern that won't grow anymore, etc.
Drill deep, drill now in ANWR, the Gulf of Mexico, off the east and west coast, in the Dakota's, the Rockies, my back yard, where the resoure is, drill there. This is a matter of not only the health of the nation's economy but also of national security. What if we faced a major war, against a determined formidable enemy? We would be in trouble in a short time.

Time to stop playing games and for Congress to work FOR the people.

  63. Do the Democrats REALLY believe that we'll have widespread alternative fuel in less time (and for less money) than the ultimate realization of domestic oil reserves??? Oh, and where do they all think plastic comes from? It's time for us to stop being laughed at by all of the other oil-consuming countries that ARE pursuing their own domestic oil! No other country is expected to care about the environment at the cost of its citizens than the US. At least their high gas prices are due to taxes that result in alleged services provided by their government. Personally, I wouldn't trust government with THAT much money!

  65. I still remember back in the late '70's and early 80's how the government would NEVER let another energy crisis strike again. We are tired of being lied to by you people! The fault is not OPEC, BIG OIL, or "It will take too long". The problem is YOU getting in OUR way, just a reminder since YOU have forgetten this. YOU work for US! we are not here to serve you, open up drilling EVERYWERE or we will fire you! Don't get too comfy in your office there, you can and will be replaced. Think about that when you go to vote, or open your mouth to a camera.

Do the right thing and not the just easy thing, re-election is just around the corner.

It just cost me $55.00 to fill my gas tank to drive to work in Pennsylvania.

I am doing everything in my power to get more mileage from my car.

My husband lost his job and we are getting to the point where we cannot make ends meet.

If you really want to help the people who put you in office please have some compassion for us.

Fighting for what is right is part of your job, in case you forgot.

Then, alternative sources can be invested in.

  77. It is time that Congress opens up the drilling of our own Oil. We have depended on foreign oil for to long and have been at the mercy of OPEC. I do not understand why the United States must always take a back seat to weaker foreign countries to the deteriment of our own citizens. Other countries are drilling off the US shores. If we start now, it would take the pressure off the oil prices. Maybe there is a limited supply, but by drilling our own oil, converting coal into liquid oil, and drilling in Alaska, we can buy some time to develop other renewable sources of energy. Currently, we are faced with not having the vehicles (at affordable prices) or the availablity of other energy sources. For the American people to change to non-oil sources of energy, there must be a ready supply that is easily obtained. In addition, the vehicles must be affordable.

  79. Open the areas that actually have oil. This BS about the oil company's having leased land that they are not drilling on isn't fooling anyone. If there was oil on the ground you sold them the least to they would be drilling it.

Also if the democrates are so concerned about the price of gas then maybe they will get out of the way and let the oil companies do what they do best, FIND O I L.......
The real problem was Bill Clinton with his infinite wisdom, when he vetoed the bill in 1995

  99. Dear Representatives, As a small business owner and as a Marine who served in Iraq during the Battle for Fallujah, I find it wholely irresponsible that we are the only nation in the world not persuing our own natural resouces. I firmly believe that we need to persue every viable option towards alternative energy, but lets face the facts. The food to energy program has had unintended consquenseses. There is no way that alternative energy can currently make up for our need for fossil fuels. We need to persue our own resourses, we need to change fiscal policy to encourage development in refineries, oil shale, off shore drilling and in ANWR. Step up. Listen to your people. You are our representative. We need this on so many levels it is scary. Please do what our country needs. Independence and Liberty. They are the only concepts that work.

  101. It is imperative that the United States becomes less dependent upon foreign sources of oil. We have the oil within our reach and we must start a massive effort to bring these supplies to America. We also must keep those oil supplies within our boundaries. It is also time to tell the environmentalist weenies that they must sit down and shut up. They have not provided any solutions other than to say no to drilling. This isn't good enough, so until they come up with the means to provide oil to fuel our economy, please go away. DRILL. DRILL. DRILL. But keep that oil here.

  103. Don't let the environmentalist and socialist/marxisit/communist in washington bring our great country to it's knees. They need to read a little history and reevaluate their ideoligies. We need to drill now and save our country and economy. We don't need to become another Europe and not produce anything, but consume everything. 105. It is the apex of stupidity to say that we need to break our "addiction" to oil in a cold turkey manner. If it is the desire of the majority of the populous of the united States of America, then fine, let us invest in alternative energy. But in the mean time we need energy, and what you call "Big Oil" would not be interested in drilling in a place that isn't going to have a lot of oil. Let them drill for the oil in ANWAR and then use the profits from the oil sales to invest in other forms of energy. You need to realize that to call them "Big Oil" is a misnomer they are really "Big Energy" and they desire to provide us with as much energy as they can for the lowest price possible. I support drilling in ANWAR and am disgusted in congress and there lack of understanding or purposeful hindrance of the economy of the united States of America. Drill in ANWAR!

  107. For me it is just not ANWAR it's also the continental shelfs or any where else we have to recover our, That is the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, rightful possessions / resourses.
Any IDIOT knows that drilling now is not going to relieve the debogel that all of you politicans have put us in. It should have been 10 to 15 years ago that the thousands of American citicens should have been yelling, drill now for the future of our children. But we still trusted in you politicans at that time. Not any more.
Sanders with his flailing arms, just the other day, rebuts that idea, he dismisses the concern of the on the street American people by jointing the Democrate chorus, "WE CAN NOT DRILL OURSELVES OUT OF THIS PROBLEM !!!!!" "No shit Sherlock", NOT today but for our TOMORROW's.
Leahy rudy questioned our entrpenures but not the investors. Enron come to mind?
But yet you still try to explain it away at the beheast of your "commanding leaders", the radical enviormental lobbist. You are selling us down the golden path to the USA demise.

  109. Dear Senators & Representative,
Why as the most powerful nation in the world are we not drilling in Anwr??? When this area becomes a national park with trails, park benches and a climate a human can survive in, more than one day, WE THE PEOPLE, can decide if it is too pristine to drill there. Almost every country drills for oil to profit for themselves and supply to their people. Till we have an alternative energy source CONGRESS MUST LISTEN to the majority of the people in this country, NOT THE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS, who are the minority, and allow the oil companies to drill where there is sufficient oil to be found. I suppose the people in CONGRSS ARE WILLING TO SACRIFICE and do without everthing that is manufactured thru the oil industry. NOT. Why are these minorities getting away with breaking the very backbone of our great country and taking down big business?? In a free country anything is possible, in a socialist country the technology alone needed to advance our energy problems will NEVER be tackled and thought out by great minds. WE THE PEOPLE continue to go to work daily as we battle the social security issue, rising fuel costs for our vehicles and homes, not to mention the costs of health care, all issues CONGRESS DOES NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT. I think CONGRESS SHOULD JOIN OUR SYSTEM and maybe something would get done. WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO BE HEARD AND HAVE OUR CONGRESS GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER NOW. The political ineptness in this country has divided us, strengthened our enemies and undermined our ability to be the greatest nation under God. God bless America because we sure need it.

  117. It is difficult for me to accept that you are willing to risk our national security to make environmentalists happy, but that must be the case. This has been going on too long to think otherwise. Please reconsider your stance, think of the economy of this great country and the people that are suffering due to high fuel prices.

  119. Hi, Can't you guys work on helping the USA get out from under the mess that you and the rest of the jokers in washington have made. Why can you not help us use the vast oil and gas reserves that we have not to mention the shale oil that is now a bargain to produce . Instead of finger pointing work together to get this done. Thanks James & Susan Tincher

  121. I am in favor of drilling in A.N.W.R. for oil. We have had wells producing oil from the north slope since the 1960's and the only problem we had was the Exxon Valdez and that had NOTHING to to with drilling or pipelines.
Ask yourself this. Where would America be today if we did not use our natural resources?
We would be a third world country with other nations dominating us. (by the way, you wouldn't have an elected office either.) So quit fooling around and do what is right for the people who elected you.
Use the natural resources we have and make sure you fund research properly so we can wean ourselves off this oil diet. Just don't make us starve for it in the meantime.
    Thank you.

  125. The United States of America is the only nation in the known universe who does not drill for oil within its own borders. How crazy is this? If we were to drill for our own resources the price of oil based products would drop so fast it would make your head spin. Lets recover our own resources and stop depending on OPEC for our needs.

  127. Quit talking out of both sides of your mouth - put up or shut up.

You say we shouldn't be paying $4.00 per gallon for gas, but as usual, you remain impotent in making any real headway in making it better. You are much more concerned with throwing blame around rather than with coming up with any real solution.

The American people are tired of the games you play in Washington. Drill in ANWR, so we can be less dependent on foreign oil.

IT`S DAMN WELL TIME THAT WE GOT IT OUT OF THE GROUND AND USED IT TO BRING THIS COUNTRY BACK ON SOLID FOOTING. THESE PEOPLE HAVE TRIED TO RUIN THIS COUNTRY AND WAR EFFORT AND ONE WAY OR ANOTHER IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN ! DRILL HERE , DRILL NOW !!!!!!!!!!

  133. Senator Burr and Senator Dole,

I will not address Brad Miller as a credible senator. You both must help us stop him and the rest of the leftist, Marxist democratic party from blocking the ability of the oil companies from drilling domestically in places such as Anwr, Colorado or off our coast. The liberal political machine is selfish, defeatist, greedy and only interested in preventing us from drilling for the fear of the American people not needing the government for aide and assistance. We can not let this country be taken from us and our liberty destroyed by keeping liberal politicians in office.

It is cheaper and more feasible to harvest the oil from our homeland than to exert time, energy and significant cost looking for other sources of energy such as ethanyl. Oil is a miracle resource that we still have an abundance that is untapped because of the moratorium that continues to be in place.

I do not care for the psychotic environmentist nuts that continue to throw pointless litigation in the way of progress.

Please help to get the moratorium lifted from the Marxist powers that have infiltrated our government.

Keep up the excellent work that the both of you are doing on behalf of the people of North Carolina. Maybe Brad Miller will eventually be defeated.

  135. There is no -- NO -- legitimate reason not to develop our own energy (meaning oil and nuclear) resources. Drill now! Build refineries now! Build nuclear power plants now! If a foreign country were to try to cut off our energy resources the way Congress has, we'd declare war!

  137. Congress has been asked many times to expand our oil and refinery capacity. The president has asked for action yet the democratic controlled congress voted down several Proposals. Does it have to be a democratic idea to get it passed. So take each one that is stalling or telling people that have other places to drill that these sites may have poor results and give them a real thrashing and education on the Oil business. Have we voted on people that have no business in office? Have we voted on people that can't respond with better answers on why not to drill in Anwr? So now our Country is in a real mess and heating oil and gas for the lower and middle class Americans will be out of site. It is a shame more Americans get more involved in getting the conservative truth.

  141. It is time to permit drilling in ANWR. We are slowly giving away the wealth and substance of this country, to mid-east sheiks as we, daily, buy their oil products and and enrich them. They have no concern for our welfare, at best, and would be actually pleased to see us impoverished and impotent. Please, act now before our inaction ruins our once prosperous nation and our wonderful way of life.

  143. Right now, and in the NEAR future, we do NOT have autos and trucks that run on:

    --nuclear power,
    --electricity,
    --hydrogen
    --water,
    --solar,
    --or anything else!

Our country runs on OIL! Food prices are shooting up because of the ethanol fraud. We need to start drilling NOW in and around THIS country.

  147. I know this is too much to ask but use a little common sense and allow American Companies to drill for oil, dig out the coal, build more nuclear power plants, oil refineries and offer tax incentives for new energy discoveries. Government needs to get off our backs ond focus on keeping us protected and FREE. Put Americans to work not welfare - rebuild our infastructure using American labor and dollars. Americans will invest in our country if their sure politicans won't steal it. (see robbing social security accounts) Two more quick items, there is no such thing as "gay marriage" (i'll live with gay union) and abortion is murder.

  149. It's time for you folks in congress to get off your dead butts and actually do the work of the people, for the people. We despearately need energy and we have the potential in our own back yard. Drill off shore. Drill in ANWR, drill in national reserves in the lower 48. Build nuke plants, coal plants and hydroelectric.

Work to develop alternative fuel sources, while building the readily available oil, coal, nuke and hydro resources, but don't use our food to do it.

It's time you lead and quit following the anthopogenic global warming nuttso's. I will NOT vote for anyone of any party that rejects the above listed activities.

You were elected to support the people of California, but you must also consider the people of the other 49 states and do what is right for the entire United States, not just those in your district. Drill now!

  159. Please open up Democrat-forbidden areas like ANWAR and coastal areas for oil drilling to make us self sufficient so we can destroy the Arab Muslim economies....they are trying to destroy ours and are trying to get Americans to blame high oil prices on Republicans.

  161. I think we need to drill OUR OWN oil. We need to do this so we can bring the price down on gas. I barley make it as it is and I get paid every two weeks and BARELY have enough money to make it to the next pay day because of gas. I had to take time off of work cause I could not afford the gas that week. We shouldn't have to do what those "tree huggers" say. They all go to these rallies in big gas sucking busses, and say we are hurting the earth. That sounds like a catch 22 to me. We need to drill our own oil and stop depending on others to do it for us. We're AMERICA for gosh sakes. We need to show the other countries that it can and WILL be done.

  163. Let's have a multi-path solution to the dependance of foreign produced oil:

First, increase domestic sources by drilling here and drilling now. We are now directly funding terrorism. Monies spent on foreign oil bankroles this nation's enemies. Let's keep our mony home.

Increase research and devolpment of alternate sources for energy, including nuclear, ethanol (but not from corn), coal conversion, HHO delivery systems. ...

Research in thin film solar technology should be accelerated. This technology has great promise.

Hydrogen fuel will never be accepted until a clean way to produce it is provided. Nuclear energy could do that. Nuclear sites could be stregicqallt place to soley produce hydrogen for vehicle use.

Entice car manufactures to offer better mileage vehicles. I have had a hybrid (Prius) for almost three years and love both the mileage and performance. I was able to puchase under the now-expired tax incentive. I got an over $3000 tax credit. Bring back that program and the market will do the rest.

It will be sometime before we can provide alternate fuels to such vehicles as long-haul trucks or aircraft. We must expand our legacy energy sources until such time as alternate sources are economically available.

If the mid-east source of oil is reduced, this country will be in a critical state. Drilling now is a must for our national survival.

    Bill Smith

  171. Oil exploration in ANWR can be done in an environmentally-friendly manner, and will provide thousands of jobs and decrease our dependence on foreign oil. The U.S. Department of Interior estimates that ANWR can provide between nine and 16 billion barrels of recoverable oil. If oil exploration were approved, only 1.5 million acres (eight percent) of ANWR would be considered for environmentally-friendly exploration and less than 2,000 acres (less than one percent) of the Coastal Plain would be affected.
