  1. I don't understand why you think that drilling on our own soil will not help the cost of oil. So what if it takes 5-10 years. My question is, if we don't do it where will we be in 10 years. While we are drilling for oil, we can continue to search for alterntive sources of energy. Not only should we drill, we should be using coal for fuel. We should also be building more refineries. You would rather save a polar bear or a spotted owl than worry about the people you are representing. The cost of fuel is hurting everyone. I make a decent income and can afford the cost (but not for much longer), but how are people less fortunate than me making it work. These are people who work very hard and were doing fine until this happened. I really think that most of you are putting politics ahead of people. I think that many of you will be surprised when the elections come around, because this is affecting everyone. Many of you have lot touch with the working class. You try to claim that you feel my pain, but none of you can relate to the working class.

P.S. Mr. Murtha, I feel that you owe the Marines from Hadifa an appolgy.

Mr. Casey, So far I haven't seen you do anything other than support Obama. I think it is time you get off of your butt and do something. It is time you stopped ridding on your father's coat tails. I really have a hard time thinking that he would be happy with the way you are performing for the people of the State of Pennsylvania.

And if you are wondering I am a democrat, and I thinking that maybe I should change parties because I am so embarrased by the democratic party when they get on the TV and act like the people don't understand anything. YOU NEED TO DO SOMETHING NOW!

  3. I understand the importance of finding other resources for energy, but ANWR needs to be drilled!!! We need to stop supporting terrorism and support our own economy!!

  5. Gentlemen, I know you are well aware of the struggles the American People are facing due to the cost of fuel, but something needs to be done about it, immediately. It's time to put political differences aside, and past real legislation that will help us. Daily increases in price of gas mean Americans are making that much less an hour at our jobs. It doesn't matter if you are a Democrat or a Republican everyone feels the burn. Let's face it, there is not an alternative. Oil is the blood of this nation and we have to buy it to get to work. The only solution is to drill for more. You are the only ones that can do anything about it. As President Bush announced earlier this week, There is an estimated 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 86 billion barrels of oil beneath our Outer Continental Shelf. This is enough fuel to heat our homes, and power our cars for a century. The Outer Continental Shelf is Government owned land, and therefore belongs to the American People. The majority of the country want us to tap these resources, and that's who you were elected to represent. These resources will buy us time to develop alternative energy sources to end our dependence on oil to power our vehicles. Please, I ask that you help us, and do whatever you can to end the drilling moratorium.

  7. Please, you're killing the American Dream by not allowing us to produce our own energy. Yes, we need to work on alternative energy sources, but until the time comes that we cen sustain our ourselves on such forms of energy, we need to get by on what we already have in place. For now, oil is the fuel that powers the engine of freedom. Take it away, or by your inaction, make it cost prohibitive to obtain, and we will end up no better than the third world.

  9. Please allow drilling in ANWR to enable the US to be less dependent on other countries. We are a great nation, but we're putting ourselves at the mercy of other countries (ones that may not necessarily like us) for oil. That is unacceptable to me. Yes, we need to look for other sources of energy, but we need our own oil too. It will take a comprehensive plan to get us out of this crisis. Please think long and hard about this and listen to all sides. The drilling can be done with the utmost respect to the wildlife. But God put us on this earth too, and He has given us the ability and talent to excel and take care of ourselves. Human beings are far more important than polar bears.

  11. Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less!!!

Forget about the Global Warming hoax, stop pandering to environmentalist activists and start using some commone sense! Remove all restructions on drilling for oil, refining oil, building nuclear power plants, etc. Simply get government out of the way of the people!

  13. This is to inform all of you MORONIC Democrats who think we can't drill our way out of high oil prices that you need to study economics 101, or else get the hell out of government and let someone with simple COMMON SENSE give it a try!!! The only one who seems to have it right is Rep. Murphy, Sen Spector is partially there with realizing we need more supplies. and then there is Sen(Global warming) Casey. He will toe the party line and drag America right down the drain!
    So DRILL NOW!!!!!

  15. Please open up ANWR!! The oil companies will be under extremely close scrutiny so as to develop the area without harming the environment. In fact, even if the ANWR is opened, the oil producers may not rush in considering the risk for public exposure over the tiniest thing. With oil priced where it is, it is probably only NOW cost effective to go into such a difficult environment to drill and develop.

  17. I WANT CHEAP U.S. PRODUCED PETROLIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I can't afford $4 a gallon gasoline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    - Ethanol isn't the answer (just as expensive as gas even if you try hiding half of the real cost by subsidizing it plus it makes food prices too high)
    - Hybrids are only a partial solution (it still uses a lot of gas and the vehicles are too expensive)
    - Fuel-cell vehicles won't be perfected for a long time
    - OPEC countries are rich enough as is. I don't want my oil-dollars to make them more rich and further enable them to support terrorists who aim to harm us and our country. Face it! Muslims hate us and our way of life and they'll do what ever is necessary to either convert us or kill us! They want to be Muslim? That’s fine by me. But I am Roman Catholic and WILL NOT CONVERT, even if it costs me my life!

High oil prices are not the oil companies’ fault. It’s your fault! You’re not fooling anyone! You control the supply by not letting them drill, not them.

You want reelected? Allow our oil companies to drill on U.S. soil, including in ANWR and offshore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. I find funny that government attempts to abide by its name, considering that reign, control and dominate are all synonyms for govern. Hmmm

What has happened to managing? A manager of any business is responsible for profit and loss and obviously with the deficit where it is, this company would rather see its employees ( the people ) suffer as a result of it's inept management. Lets raise the minimum wage!!! All that did was allowed teenagers and entry level employees to see a little higher number on their paychecks and also raised cost of living. Lets tax everything we can but allow loopholes for the rich and wealthy since there are so few of them compared to those lower and middle class Americans again poor management. We know the world runs on combustible fossil fuels we know we are striving for zero emissions vehicle but in doing so, fuel economy has suffered and fuel costs are rising, yet another star on the forehead of the government's ability to manage.

    Allow the drilling.

  23. Please stop being stuborn and just let us use our own resources. We are the only country in this world that is not using the oil that is in our own country. PLEASE DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW. We need to change our dependancy on foriegn oil and get our economy back to a normal.

  25. Im tired of the politicians giving us excuses. Its time to take care of America first. We need to be building new refineries, new nuclear power plants. We need to be drilling in ANWR, off shore, and going after the shale oil. If we start doing this now, then we can stop fuel prices from going even higher in the next 5 to 10 years. We need energy independence, not more excuses from washington.

  27. Dear Congress Person,
I am a barber in a small town. Everytime the gas prices go up, I spend the day looking out of the window. My customers are mostly elderly. When it comes down to the decision as to getting a $9.00 hair cut or buying gas....I am the one who loses. Prices went up the other day. I had 2 customers all day. That means that I made $18.00. Fifteen of that goes to the owner of the shop for my daily chair rent. Then I pay taxes on the remainder (and I really do). What did that get me for the 8 hour day? Around $2.75. Can you live in that? I can't very long. Drill! and ease this crush that everyone is under.

  29. PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO ADDRESS THE ENERGY CRISIS. DRILLING IN ANWR WOULD BE A START! WE NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ENERGY NEEDS. IT IS AN OUTRAGE THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO ADDRESS THIS SITUATION. CONGRESS NEEDS TO START WATCHING OUT FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY INSTEAD OF BUCKELING TO THE LOBBYISTS AND THEIR SELFISH AGENDAS!

  31. Not only do we need to drill we need to expand refining capasity in the U.S. If you keep running at 95% any bump in the road is going to jack up the price of gas.Let us get rid of the special blends for different parts of the country and just have the one formula for the U.S.

  35. It is time to do what is correct for the people you represent. Our situation is becoming critical and therefore decisions must be made. Make a bold move and earn my respect, or else I will follow my constitutional right and start collecting petitions to fire you and your fellow congress persons. We must re-establish a government that follows the documents given to us by our founders. We must stop pointing finger at the other party and realize that this is about America and Americans. We all know that on the 'Hill' things appear a little distorted. So I ask you to step out of the rabbit hole, take a deep breath, and smell the garbage ,which has been piled up and is now decaying in your back yard. We have to start to bringing back our economy. In regard to the outsourcing policies. This is a scam and benefits the extreme wealth in America not the average Joes. This may include revising the tax laws and perhapes the entire tax system. A fair tax system is in my opinio the only way to recover from the corruption of the last 60 years (i.e.. IRS). I know that the Revolutionary war ignited over a half of precent increase in tea tax. I also believe that the John Adams and Benjamine Franklins of those days would now roll over in their graves if they could see where we are today. They would probably be black marked and arrested for wanting to start a new revolt. I myself don't have the balls nor the intelect to ever consider this course of action. So I'm forced to pleade with the one democratic design aloted and ask for you to start to represent us and stop selling out our future. My children will one day ask me what I did during these days? I hope I can say that I took a stand for their future and not thought about myself alone.

P.S. my sencre apologies if my spelling is incorrect.

  37. DRILL IN ANWR FOR OIL! WE DO NOT NEED TO BE DEPENDENT ON OUTSIDER'S OIL!

I STILL BELIEVE WE MUST ALSO IMPROVE THE TECH ON RENEWABLE ENERGY.

AND REGULATE THE PROFITS OIL COMPANIES CAN MAKE ON EACH GALLON.OF GAS.

BUT MAKE IT MANDATORY FOR AUTO MAKERS TO HAVE ZERO EXHAUST EMISSIONS ON NEW VEHICLES.

WE SHOULD GET 'GM' & 'TOYOTO' TO GO WITH THEIR ELECTRIC VEHICLES MADE FROM LATE 1990'S TO EARLY 2000S FOR CA & AZ, WITH IMPROVED BATTERIES.

  39. In addition to the ANWR drilling proposal, perhaps you would be so kind as to remind your fellow congressperson, Maurice Hinchey Rep. NY,D. of his oath of office, which he seems to have violated by suggesting that we should follow in the footsteps of Venesula's Hugo Chavez in nationalizing the oil business. I do not intend to live out my remaining years in a Communist nation.

  41. Teddy Roosevelt did not care about the blue heron or the moose, or the arctic fox or the pristine beauty of the geisers at Yellowstone. The reasons behind his cordnoning off natrural resources for futuire generations was not to isolate areas for future use - it was to conserve resources until a time of national crisis when those resources would be in demand - that time is NOW. His foresight is to be commended - his legacy remembered and his judgement honored. Start tapping in to the resources we have available now in the US. Once we actually pull our heads out of our asses and start on the path to independence - those who would have us poor and desolate such as the OPEC cartels will be begging us to buy their crude at pennies on the dollar. We need to drill for our own oil both inland and on the continental shelf - BUT - the stipulation is that the profits generated by domestic oil concerns be directed in part toward alternatives such as Nuclear and hydrogen fuels for electricy, clean coal use and shale oil. Also - 10 new refineries with state of the art production systems need to be constructed beginning immediately. 10 refinerise - 20 Nuclear power facilities and Wind/Soalr/Hydrogen energy zones created across the plains (the new crop). Within 15 years if this is undertaken - we can cut the cord. We can and will be energy independent IF we have the collective balls to take it on. It can be done - it needs to be done - it's not complicated. Do this now. Take action and forget personal gain - look to serve those who've entrusted you and ELECTED you to represent them. .

  43. I have received and read the liberal mumbo-jumbo from both Bob Casey and John Murtha, and it is ABSOLUTE B.S. All the libs-progressives have been vaccinated from the same needle of crap. It's about time they got off their politically-corrupt asses and do something positive for this country before it's too late. It looks to me like they've all sold their souls for 30-pieces of silver -- I wonder who the "Payer" is???

  47. We supporters of expanding drilling in the United States understand that it will be years before any truly significant oil can be brought out of the ground, but don't our children and grandchildren deserve it? I know I plan on still being here in 10-15 years. Had President Clinton thought long term, we'd be getting oil from ANWR RIGHT NOW!! Oil drilling has NEVER BEEN SAFER!! We need to get past the Exxon Valdez and make ourselves independent from so much foreign oil! Please!

  49. There is no more time to continue these mindless debates. I have no desire to become a second rate country or a impoverished citizen to appease someone's foolish ideology or to please another country. We have wasted 30 plus years doing so and have become even more dependent on those who would bring harm to the US or its economy. We must take action now to develop "ALL" of our energy sources while aggressively pursuing well thought out alternative fuels. The sovereignty and economic health of our country and its citizen’s are dependent on it. We must move towards a sane level of energy independency. We also owe this to our children and their future. I have no tolerance for those who will use the energy crises to manipulate our country deeper into socialism or political agendas. I am confident that the US can and will pursue its energy needs in a constructive way to safeguard the environment more so than any other country.

There is no real reason for food & gas to be this high unless you are one of those who want the USA to fall . If you can not see what is happening maybe you should not have the position you have and maybe I can do something about it in November.

Being a Florida ressident I think the US off my cost might be better What do you think. US_CINA_US_CINA____________________US

Bush needs to release all drilling off shore, coal to oil, shail to oil and go after all oil and gas leases possible. what are we waiting for.

  57. Drill here drill now, it sounds so simple yet you don't get it. Well the voters get it and I know that is something you understand. So let us drill here and drill often. That means off the coasts and in the national wildlife preserve that the government took away from the people. Well it's time you gave us our mineral rights back. While your at it reduce the stacks of permits that make it virtually impossible for "big oil" to build refineries. Every hurricane that comes along in the gulf spikes the price of oil because of, you guessed it supply and demand. More refineries means more supply. Why don't you do something about keeping "BIG GREEN" off the backs of those who would build clean energy sites. It's called nuclear.

  59. Drilling now will help us down the road. If we drilled 10 years ago look how far ahead we would be today. We have to start drilling NOW! Drill an ANWAR, off the domestic coasts, and in the oil rich areas within US soil.

I am finally seeing the light. You all should come out of the dark (where you make your deals with the environmental people), and see the light too. Start working for the hard working American people. Any consideration and action taken to this message would be greatly appreciated. Stand up and be a man/woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. Pass legislation to start drilling now or I will be forced to vote against you when you are up for election again and convince other to do the same. I no longer want to hear about alternative fuel sorces. The time to drill is now but continue to work toward the alternatives. The high prices at the pump is killing our economy and we cant afford to wait any longer.

  69. Hello; Congress is killing us here by playing Politics and not permitting Big oil to start drilling for Oil in this country or in the Gulf O Mexico. Please vote now to let them start drilling as we needed this to happen yesterday not in the future. Its time has come and it is the best solution that is available right now to make us energy independant.
This will also send a msg the Middle East that we are serious about this. It only makes perfect sense.

  71. It is beyond idiotic to continue to send billions of dollars to countries around the world (many who are our adversaries) while stubbornly refusing to produce oil that is under our own land. This is madness. There is no excuse for this kind of stupidity, except craven, slavish devotion to enviromentalist radicals. Who the hell died and left them boss?

  75. How can we proclaim liberty when it is fettered to governments outside of our borders? How can we proclaim freedom when our own government is stifling our ability to pursue it, by disallowing the people to utilize its own energy sources? These are questions Americans should not have to ask, but at the present is necessary; because certain groups have decided that drilling in ANWR is not immediately economically viable, or will not cause the price of oil to reduce drastically. This is not rational; but the basic tenants of economics are. This is simple supply and demand, and if the world market knows that the United States is going to drill, then the futures market is going to react in the positive for the American people. Let us not ask these questions indefinitely. Let us have liberty; let us be free.

  77. It's time that our elected officials stopped serving the agenda of special interest groups and the elite. The American people are starving for relief from high fuel prices driven by panic in the futures market. We need to be independent, not tied to the whims of unstable and unfriendly parts of the world.

It's time to drill, and stand on our own two feet. If our current officials cannot offer that, it's time we elected somebody else.

  89. In a supply and demand enconomy common sense tells you that if supply goes up prices go down. We do not have technology to use other forms of fuels yet, if you don't believe me look up the law of conservation of energy. We loose 75% of the total energy everytime we convert bio mass (of any kind) to a fuel to use in our cars. Then they always make statements to make distorted points (ie ethanol has 1/2 the co2 as gas), truth is it only has 1/2 the energy as gas. They need to be honest to the American people and SOLVE the problems not just feed us political BS.

  91. It's time to start drilling and building refineries in this country again. Foreign countries are drilling off our shore. Why not let the safest and most ecologically careful companies (ours) do the same? High gas prices are not the blame of the oil companies, but rather the blame of Congress. Do the right thing for the country, and not for your political career!

  93. To all the elected officials of the United States, especially the Democrats:

Since the majority of you are against domestic drilling and its costing us American taxpayers an arm and a leg to fill up our tanks. I have one small teeny tiny request, when we American can no longer afford the gas to commute back and forth to work, I was just wondering if we could use your private chauffered driven vehicles, your private helicopters, your private jets or your private yachts to get us to our jobs. Its the least I could ask you, for not caring enough to lower the price of fuel at the tanks.

We need to use ALL of our resources at our disposal to remain self-sufficient and we need to get out of the way of our corporations and low them to do what they do best…create wealth and a better society. We need to continue exploration, drill for oil, building nuclear power plant and researching new sources of power...NOT legislating it!

  103. I want drilling for oil in the United States to begin today!... offshore, in Anwr (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge)... everywhere oil is available in these United States...We have to start drilling for oil NOW! This delay is absurd. Drilling in the United States is a no-brainer! Start doing your job, gentlemen... you're not as stupid as you appear! Start drilling, NOW!
  104. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

  105. I respectfully request that you pursue legislation that will provide a greater supply of oil for the United States. We have reserves that could be used, if not immediately, in the future when we will still require oil for at least some things. If it turns out that we find practical, inexpensive alternatives to oil that do not result in higher food prices (thank you, ethanol), it is all to the good because then we won't miss the reserves that have been used. After all, when former President Clinton vetoed drilling in ANWR 13 years ago due to the length of time it would take to get off the ground, we are now in a position where it would have been extremely beneficial had he chosen differently.

Drilling in ANWR and anywhere else that promises to provide oil to us is the best way to ensure that the country which we have fought so hard to protect remains one of freedom and opportunity, not one of recession, hard times, and despair. Our country has been blessed with so many resources and when Alaska became a state almost 50 years ago, we acquired a tremendous energy reserve that will benefit the country as a whole if we could simply use it.

Rep. Peterson, a representative from our own state of Pennsylvania, has a bill ready to go (H.R. 2784) that has not yet been debated on the floor. Our country, which was built upon so much freedom with a representative government seems no longer to be for the people and by the people, but instead by the few to represent whatever will be good for the short term goals of their parties. Rep. Peterson chose to work with Rep. Abercrombie (HI) on it, in an effort to end the moritoria on offshore drilling. We hear so much about bipartisanship that it is encouraging to see it in action, although disgruntling to see it getting so little attention from fellow members of Congress as a whole, despite the 170 cosponsors the bill has generated.

I really don't care what party gets something done, but it is unconscionable to brutalize our free market system in this way. Great strides have been made and we have new technologies available to ensure that oil is recovered at far less risk to the environment than having it shipped from overseas. Why is it that we cannot find a happy medium? To say nothing of the boost in the economy it would make to drill offshore, as it would employ people who could certainly use the jobs.

I ask that you make every effort to pursue this for the American people. We need your help and representation now and ask that you do the job to which you were elected -- to represent US, the people who have you in office in their place, to speak for US, the people. I understand that it must be difficult sometimes to stand against the crowd, but now is the time. Thank you.

  107. With the daily increases in oil prices, it is now time to make moves to curb the effect of these prices on the American people. The Alaska National Wildlife Reserve stands ready to provide us with much needed crude; however, Congress has continually stood in the way by not allowing exploration of this area. Arguments are made regarding the fact that it could take 10 years before such explorations yield crude; such arguments are specious, however, as (1) we will likely need that oil in 10 years, and (2) there is no reason to think that, with the level of ingenuity Americans are known for, the oil could not be pumped much sooner. Additionally arguments are made regarding the need for alternative fuels; I agree that such fuels must be investigated, but until such alternatves are made available, the American people must rely on petroleum-based products to run their vehicles and heat their homes. Their is no viable reasoning that can suggest that alternative fuels must be investigated to the exclusion of exploring for oil now.

There is a bill, H.R. 2784 authored by Rep. Peterson of PA, ready for debate in Congress at this moment, but which has not yet been allowed to the floor for debate. I urge Congress to begin debate on this bill immediately. I stand with the Presdent who just today called for 4 steps to be taken to allow oil exploration in the U.S.

Thank you for your time, attention, and swift consideration of this pressing matter. The American people are demanding oil exploration, and are demanding that Congress will either lead the way to such exploration or get out of the way to let us do it ourselves. Please choose one or the other - we cannot continue along the path we are currently on.

  109. Lets start drilling in ANWR and lets lift the ban on offshore drilling. It was stupid to ban offshore drilling.. We the American people are suffering under this DEMOCRATIC controlled senate and house.. I feel like our representives and senators of Pennsylvania are letting down the people of our great state...

  111. The benefits of drilling in the now off-limits areas such as ANWR and offshore now greatly exceed the risks involved. I believe oil drilling technology gives us the means to mitigate any environmental risk.
Also, please don't play the blame game for this crisis. Instead of fixing the blame for high gas prices, as many in Congress seem happy to do, lets fix the problem! Its a simple issue of basic economics, supply and demand. Increase supply and the prices will fall. Matter of fact, just show the intent to increase supply and this will impact OPEC and the oil speculators. Nonsense like blaming the oil companies, or instituting a windfall profits tax will do nothing to lower prices. We must act now to hold off the the huge detrimental impact costly energy will have on the economy. I urge you to support increasing our oil supplies, which will lower costs many are now suffering from. We can't develop "alternate" energy sources if we are freezing in the dark with a bust economy.

  113. Dear Governmental Representative's of the citizens of the United States of America,
Please begin to use our natural resources to help relieve the price of ALL goods in the US economy. The high price of oil has hit every facet of the economy for the common person. Once the other nations of the world realize that we are not beholden to them and their oil, they will also lower the price of oil to be more competitive. We must make sure as a nation that we do not stop using our resources as well as continue to develop new renewable energy sources.
OUR Nation (WE THE PEOPLE) needs to realize that in the short term this must be done, so that in the long term we can develop the needed technology to help drive our standard of living for generations to come. OUR Nation also must begin to realize that the wishes of THE PEOPLE are not currently being met by our government. It is at this time that THE PEOPLE must begin to stand up to the government that has inflicted the current situation on us and demand action. If action is not taken by the elected officials, we will elect new officials, who will do what is good for THE PEOPLE and not just the government.
WE should not work for OUR government…OUR government should work for US!!!!

This country is going to shit in a bucket and really fast if we or should I say this screwed up Government doesn't start doing something and I mean something good rather than screwing us, and taxing us out the wazoo. We won't be able to live on a pay check if we pay more taxes, we can't give no more. It is time for our screwed up Government and Elected Officials to start giving back to us.

I am a registered Democrat, guess what I am changing that to a regsitered Republican.

  119. START DRILLING NOW! That way, in a few years we will have oil. Yes, it's llogical, it makes sense, it's the right thing to do. Animals will adjust. They are animals, NOT HUMAN and have NO RIGHTS. DO IT NOW!

Congress, you have had their collective head in the sand way too long. We the people, outside the Beltway, have our backs up against the wall. Stop the socialistic madness. Remember your job is to represent the people. Clearly you have forgotten that little detail. Get bqck to basics and take care of Americans.

WE MUST DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW! I as a tax paying registered Voter am totaly disgusted with Congress's inability to help the citizens of this Country at the gas pump. Drop this nonsense of a Windfall Pofits Tax on the oil companies!

  125. It doesn't matter if it will be 7-10 years before we see anything from Anwar or Minnesota or any of the other new fields we have in the US. If it would have been done when it was first suggested we would be getting it now. And it can be in production much sooner if needed. Why should we depend on foreign entities for our petroleum when we have sufficient at home. IF congress gets off collective butt and thinks of their constituents instead of the eco-terrorists such as the Sierra Club and WWF, and Al Gore, we can be energy independent while we improve on alternative sources. Drilling today is much improved and does little harm to the enviroment

  127. We have the ability to change the USA's economic situation as it relates to energy independence just by drilling in the very small section of ANWR. It is to the point where my husband is considering renting an apartment closer to work simply to save on the gas bill. He is already car pooling with three other guys. We need to do something to lower the cost of oil and drilling might just help in that area! Obviously, the promise from many of the Democrats upon taking office has not been fulfilled. Gas costs much more now than it did then!

  139. We, the American people, have suffered under the bad policies of the last 30+ years and are now about to reap what our politicians have sown. We can not pander to the environmental movement any longer! They have been proven wrong countless times and have always ended up hurting people in their quest to save a few animals. We need energy to survive as a modern society, and millions of American lives depend on modern society.
Obama says we can't drive our SUVs and keep our houses at 72 degrees...why not? I ask. besides, if we are going to lower our own standard of living just to make the rest of the world like us, who will lead the world in the technology to keep so many of us alive well into our 80's 90's and even into the hundreds...and who will provide the wealth for which to make the advancements??
The fact is that we need oil for darn near everything and we need it at a decent market price. simple economics tells us that when prices are high we either need to increase supply or decrease demand, well I'm not for killing off humans or destroying rival economies so I guess supply is our only answer, and what better way to increase supply then by drilling here at home. Not only will it lower fuel prices but it will increase tax revenue, increase jobs, and will force the huge multinational oil companies to spend their "windfall" profits in the American economy. The influx of that much wealth coupled with the drastic drop in fuel prices will spur our economy into a surge that will most likely dwarf what we have seen in a long time, if not ever. I Implore you as an American and your constituent, please drill for oil here and soon. and not just in ANWR but all over America (we have so much oil under Pa, wouldn't you love to bring jobs, new tax revenue, and massive amounts of wealth back to our fine state!?)!

p.s. We must do this before we can think about alternative fuels for we can not afford to research these new technologies (if they will even work) if our economy can not support the funds and effort needed to do so.

It has become a national emergency and it is up to you and any other patriots, not politicians, we might have left in Washington, to do the right thing, now. Our founding fathers started a revolution with Britain over less than what is being dictated by the leftists in this country. Maybe it is time for an another revolution to throw off the bonds of a bloated overreaching and opressive federal government.

I think it's crazy that our government, which is supposed a government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, would rather bow down to the wishes of other countries (most of whom have our nation's destruction at or near the tops of their agendas), than get busy taking care of our own affairs. This isn't even America anymore! Our nation is just a bunch of pieces, leased out to the highest bidding countries. Who is looking out for the American people? You hear more about what rights should be afforded to the terrorist detainees than you do about what we need to do to take back control of our own country!! Stop selling our country off, bit by bit. Stop "protecting" the RESOURCES that we should be using (hence the term, RESOURCES).

  161. since this is public property i think the public demand that we drill for our oil should be listened to and done. about 75% of the people in this country want this done, why dont you listen to the people? anwr is 19 million acres and the oil fields would amount to a postage stamp in the scope of things! as far as ecological concerns we heard all that in the 70's about the pipeline and we all know the caribou flourished afterwards! also the amount of oil that would come from there happens to be 1 million barrels a day, isnt it interesting that is the amount we import from saudi arabia each day? as an employed, tax paying united states citizen i demand you open these lands that i am a part owner of!

  163. While not an immediate solution, it seems clear that additional oil production (drilling and refinement) capabilities are necessary for the continued prosperity of our society. The projected size and degree of impacted area seem rather minor and it would seem within the legislature's authority to impose reasonable oversight to assure bounds. While I support market development of alternative energy sources, energy production appears to remain a necessity lacking wider deployment of nuclear energy or the development of high-efficiency solar cells (at reasonable costs). Please enable the exploration, collection and refining of domestic oil in the interested of both economy & sovereignty.

  167. To my Represenative,

There are a few issues I feel need attended to. First you are our represenative which means you are to do the will of the people who you represent. The fact is we are not happy with the state of things.
One is recovering oil from the pristine area of the Anwar, in case you have never been there pristine and beautiful it is not. It is a wasteland and full of black flies and mosquitoes in season. The new drilling techniques and technology are no where near as crude as once was. In recent years the drilling industry has worked hard to clean up the sites where they work. They also are wanting to protect the environment. It is possible to live side by side in harmony with nature yet extract what we need for our survival also. We need to drill and give the American worker jobs in the form of engineering, drilling, construction work, steel manufacturing, mining and the list goes on. Also in case you have not heard, with the new technology there is a growing awareness that oil might not be fossil but something the earth naturally produces. It is called Abiotic oil theory.
Yes we need to develop new and alternative energy sources , but we live in the hear and now and those energy sources are years away. In the meantime it is getting harder for the average person to make ends meet. I don't like the fact that we are not getting OUR energy reserves, yet China and other countries are going to be drilling just 60 miles off of our own shore. With the ability to whipstock off of a oil rig other countries could be draining our oil supply under our very nose and then selling it back at an extremely inflated price. It costs Saudi Arabia $2.00 to produce a barrel of oil yet the oil companies are forced to pay them $135. 00 (and climbing) for it. That sir is price gouging. What is the difference between them and us getting the oil? Except we are cleaner and more efficient at it. It seems to me that makes America more enviromentally friendly. And then we have the new technology of getting oil from coal and shale. Japan and Canada is doing this and it is a huge success. That would mean more jobs for many Pennsylvanians if we would tap this natural resource. Then there is the subject of nuclear energy. This is a viable alternative energy. Even France is developing this clean and enviromentally safe energy.
We are your constituents and we as a people are starting to become aware of just who is causing this mess and why. I think you should be looking into these facts personally and not just listening to what other people and special interests are telling you.

    Sincerely,
    Tom Santelli

  169. Domestic exploration and drilling should not even qualify as an idea it is such a no-brainer! The technological advances have all but eliminated the environmental disasters of the past, and everyone knows it.

How can we, as one of the leading fossil fuel consuming nations in the world, allow countries that "hate" us, to control and use against us the very thing that moves the WORLD economy? We have more oil and other resources right here in our own country than we need until a "better alternative" is fully developed, but we allow fanatics in our our own government, and special interests groups dictate national security issues. Make no mistake, this IS a National Security issue!

I consider myself a reasonable person...this letter I am writing is indicative of the level of my frustration with the lack of common sense, and complacency in our government when it comes to the "secure" stewardship of The United States, and national security issues such as our economy.

I have not even said one word about what this crisis has done to the "average" American consumer...that is fairly obvious, but then again, so is domestic drilling!

I have heard all the propaganda and talking points about drilling and the environment; the Polar Bear, Caribou and other animals live up there...please spare me, they would continue to live up there because the amount of space needed to drill is a fraction of the reserve.

People are NOT stupid...gullible maybe, but not stupid. The word is getting out (and sink in) now about what we can do to help ourselves instead of waiting for some politician to make promises they have NO INTENTION of keeping.

People are angry, and in case you may think other wise do not make the mistake that we all think it is the GOP and George W Bush's fault, because some of us KNOW the truth of that lie as well.

This is still "our" country, isn't it? DO the right thing...drill here...drill now!

  171. "We cannot drill our way out of this crisis"? Has not all the ecological disasters been due to OIL TANKERS carrying oil and none have been from drilling platforms off-shore on on land? Is it not more of an ecological risk to maintain imports and use tankers to import oil, therefore? Is it not more painful for average families to wait for alternatives? Is it not a religious act to have 'faith' in carbon as a 'green house gas'? Is it therefore not a religious act to equal to tithing to the green gods to tax tithing or is it a bait and switch to raise taxes? How will the tax reduce alleged global warming without slowing the economy? Will it not force companies to go off-shore? Does the carbon tax harm lower income families? Get real. Drill now. Make us independent. Drill while we develop other technologies.

Drilling for oil is vital--we can't afford to wait any longer. Our economy is suffering and it is only going to get worse the longer you delay. As a typical middle-class citizen, I think I speak for most people, and I will tell you that we are not going to put up with this failure to act much longer--all of you will be out of jobs as soon as you are up for election.

  177. It is a bad idea to go after oil companies profits in an attempt to reduce gas prices. Punishing the very companies responsible for providing gasoline to the American people is a very dangerous tactic. This act alone will show every American corporation that their government is more interested in penalizing productivity than providing goods and services the U.S. & the world could use. We as a country need to be self sufficient in our energy consumption.

This will require us to drill for oil, build nuclear power plants and oil refineries while we research new sources of energy. Not only will this aid us in reduced energy costs it will help Ohio and the United States in many other areas as well. Economically, not just by the eventual reduced energy costs, but also in fields of construction (building plants and refineries), goods and services will benefit due to more affordable transportation costs as well. Consumer confidence will increase when the millions of Americans finally see the government actually doing something to effectively help them with daily fuel expenses. This will at least, lead to more economic activity and a stronger economy. Our foreign policy will be greatly impacted by our energy independence. Oil prices from abroad will not be an issue of control or manipulation when dealing with terrorist countries. These are only a few points of benefit for energy independence.

We must do something now to make a significant impact on tomorrow. Please rise to the challenge and stand up for something that will not only aid America as a nation but will gain you the respect of the Ohio and American citizens for years to come.

  179. JEFF'S ENERGY POLICY!

THE PARTY THAT ACCOMPLISHES THIS LIST TODAY WILL SECURE THEIR POWER IN GOVERNMENT FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS!

    1) Immediately lift the regulations on OffShore Drilling!

    2) Oil Companies need to EXPLORE, DRILL, REFINE and REPEAT AS NECESSARY with NO REDTAPE BULLSHIP to slow down the process! Tax incentives will be granted to the Oil Companies if they can get this done in 2-3 years.

    3) Coal Companies need to EXPLORE, DIG, PROCESS, FIX AND REPLANT THE LANDSCAPE and REPEAT AS NECESSARY with NO REDTAPE BULLSHIP to slow down the process!

    4) Natural Gas Companies need to EXPLORE, DRILL and REPEAT AS NECESSARY with NO REDTAPE BULLSHIP to slow down the process!

    5) We need MANY MORE Oil Refineries online ASAP! Suspend the regulations requiring different formulations and grades of gas for different parts of the country immediately!

    6) We need 100 MORE Nuclear Power Plants up and running ASAP!

**** THE ABOVE COMPANIES ARE NOT ENERGY COMPANIES!!!! An Oil Company's business is OIL, a Coal Company's business is COAL.... QUIT asking them what THEY are going to do about ALTERNATIVE ENERGY! **** As the current fuel sources become too expensive to harvest, I'm sure these companies will diversify into alternatives and will do a good job of it!

When government quits subsidizing the alternative energy stuff, the prices will fall so those companies can stay in business. Prices stay artificially high when the product or service is subsidized!

We are the only country in the world that discovers natural resources and doesn't utilize them. This is irresponsible!!!!

ALL OF THIS COULD START IMMEDIATELY! QUIT KISSING UP TO THE ENVIRONMENTALISTS!!... THERE AREN'T THAT MANY VOTES THERE ANYWAY! THE PARTY THAT ACCOMPLISHES THE ABOVE LIST TODAY WILL SECURE THEIR POWER IN GOVERNMENT FOR THE NEXT 100 YEARS!

Government needs to get out of the Energy Business! You are inept at it! We don't need more regulations, we need LESS!

The fact is that we as Americans MUST find and develop alternative sources of energy such as nuclear, hydrogen, solar, etc (something other than Ethanol which has proven to be a NOT-SO-GOOD idea thus far), but in the mean time we need to have access to the petroleum to fuel the country until the time when the alternatives are available!!!!

We need to cut our dependence on foreign lands and hostile governments for this petroleum and use OUR OWN!!!!!

Please push to open ANWR and remove continental shelf restrictions. Oil shale and Coal liquefaction needs to be heavily explored.

Allow us to access what is OURS! Allow the USA to become independent as we should be!!

  183. It is no accident that our country is becomming energy deprived! It is because of 30 plus years of regulatory restrictions for getting our own domestic resources. The facts speak for themselves and the figures and statistics back it up. I am urging at least 50 freinds and aquaintances to look up the facts on who is voting for energy foreign dependances and then follow the monies and donations to see where it all leads. We need our domestic oil and resources now and technolgy can improve as a natural science and material availability allows. I vehemently opposse conserving our way into a third world status while China and India are laughing at us while they are scooping up all the resource they can even 50 miles from our Florida shores. I urge you as a representative to get real and get real now about our energy independence !

  185. It is and has been our belief or more than 30 years that we should be drilling for our own oil instead being under the thumb of savages that are living 2,000 years ago. They hate our Constitution.
