  1. Not only should we drill in Anwwr, we should drill anywhere there is or maybe oil. We also need to build new refineries. If gas goes much higher I am not sure I will be able to afford to go to work. My family of four has already reduced the number of trips we take. We have also had to start trimming how much food we buy. Instead of hamburgers we now eat bologna sandwiches. We have cut as many extras as we can. There isn't much left to cut. Something needs to be done now! The poor and working class are hurting!!

  3. Long, long overdue.
Why is the USA the only country that refuses to utilize their own resources?
I believe this borders on yet another criminal act by the U.S. Congress.
Thumbing their noses at everyone except special interest groups.
Maybe it's time for another ‘tea party’.

  5. Dear Servant of the People
As you should be well aware, the price of oil has gone way beyond the point of inaction by our government leadership. You as our elected representative should take action to allow the immediate drilling where ever our oil resourses are located. This should be your number one priority to help the voters out of this mess. The drilling in ANWR is absolutely necessary and should not be confused by those who claim that it would hert the environment. The ANWR area is the size of a postage stamp on a tennis court so what the big deal with those who misrepresent it as if it were the intire area of Alaska. Your future as a representative rests on the actions that you and others take regarding this matter.

  7. It is about time that congress takes action to allow American oil companies to start exploring and obtaining American oil. Congress continually states how they care about the burden of increased energy costs on the American family. If that really is the case, then stop talking about it and take action to open up our soil for environmentally friendly energy exploration. We all believe that we need an alternative energy source to oil and we should begin research into this endeavor immediately. However to suggest that any new sources of energy can be made widespread in the next decade to replace oil is asinine. What we need NOW is oil. Pease allow us to go and get it!

  9. Screaming for oil independance, then denying permession to use our own oil is the action of the brain dead. It aids in reducing America to a third rate nation

  11. Dear Sir,
It is time to stop looking out for personal interest and power and do what is best for the American people. While drilling can solve some of the issues with oil we must move at lights speed to develop alternate fuels. For example: look at Brazil. Fully independent because they use sugar cane. The United States is a huge country with alot of existing farmland that can be used to grow corn, sugar beets, or soybeans for these fuels.
Party politics has put the U.S. on a fast track for distruction as we see the middle class be destroyed.
Quit bailing out big business' that made bad decisions because of their greed ie: sub-prime money lenders. I'm sorry, but people need to be a little smarter in how they manage their money rather than "move on up".
Help us out! Remember YOU work for US the people that elected you!!!!!!!!

  13. Solving our oil problem will take a two fold approach, alternative energy in the long term future and drilling now. We need to stop depending on the foreign oil if we have it in our own country. Please use common sense and allow us to get to the energy in our own country instead of depending on areas of the world with unstable governements or governments that do not have our best interests in mind.

  15. THis is insanity! We have oil in Anwr, shale oil in the midwest and west, offshore oil and natural gas everywhere. We need to drill everywhere! And the polar bear is NOT endangered! What a scam! Get off your duffs and lets become independent of foreign oil with our our extensive deposits!

  17. Not only should we drill in Anwwr, we should develope our other natural resourses and build new refineries, coal fired generators and neuclear power plants. I think the president should declare these to be part of our national security and declare a national emergancy to get these started.
    Thank you,
    Richard E Dean

  19. Please free our natural resources for use by our country -- it is beyond ridiculous that our government allows other governments (nationalized petroleum companies) and oil cartels to hold US citizens hostage.
We own the resources. We have the methods to cleanly extract and convert these resources into affordable energy. Please support our energy independence by fostering drilling in ANWR and easing the ecological red tape imposed on America's energy producers/refiners.

  21. The wildlife argument is not one which will sit well with this American. I am knowledgeable of the increase in the population of the Caribou and other animals in the Alaskan wilderness because our "warm pipeline" provides them a place to mate year round. I don't see why we shouldn't help those poor animals by giving them more.

Let us be a country again! One who uses her own natural resources instead of being dependent on foreign sources!

  25. The only way America will become energy self-sufficient is if we generate our own and quit bowing to the wishes of the view who wish to send us back to the dark ages. We, the people, wish energy independence and I for one will begin voting accordingly.

  29. Past decisions to exclude AMWR from our strategic energy plans have now proven senseless, myopic and dangerous to our national security. Gentlemen, let's now choose the right choice as opposed to the political choice.

We must take action now to lessen our dependence on OPEC countries. Energy is the engine of economic expansion. At this moment in time, our economy is being held hostage by short sighted oil policies of the past as well as OPEC countries that do not share our visions of liberty and opportunity. Let us stop the political handcuffing of the American economy and do right by current and future generations of Americans.

Leaders do what is right for our country. Now more than ever, we need leadership in our political system. Therefore, I challenge each of you to do as you were elected and stand as leaders among your peers.

  31. As a representative of, we the people, it is important that you understand the facts about ANWR and not be swayed by emotional rhetoric. Despite news sources like CNN, who always show ANWR as a lush and green wilderness, the section of ANWR set aside for drilling, for most of the year, is a frozen tundra with little actual wildlife. Congressman Steve King (Iowa) who recently toured ANWR, said one (of many) interesting sights he saw that contradicted the activist claims was the 700 mile stretch in which they didn't come across a tree. While oil may not be the ultimate solution, it is the ONLY solution at the moment. Please support drilling in ANWR.

  33. We need to use our own resources immediately to prevent foreign sources from holding us hostage to their effort to destroy our economy.

Also, we need to remove the recent threatened species designation from the Polar Bear, since there are more bears and ice cover in the Arctic than ever. We need to ensure that those agencies that supported that change in their status are monitored more closely for accuracy in their facts. Just because they are called experts does not mean they are experts. Make sure they do not have some other agenda just to get their way.

  39. We can drill our way out of this mess and frankly your inaction is appaulling. We cannot continue to pay the price for gasoline that we are paying. My spouse and I both travel with our jobs and the price of gasoline is way out of control. Alternative fuels are a great idea, but til then we need the oil and refineries to bring down the price of gasoline. I certainly hope that you are smart enough to realize that taxing the oil companies or going after their profits and especially capping prices is NOT the way to go. I dont care where you have to drill, but if the oil companies are willing to invest in the drilling than let them drill.

  51. Dear Mr. Congressmen,

I am a construction worker that owns a Ford 8 cyl. Van that is needed for work. I also own a Ford SUV, that together cost me at $3.85/ gallon approx. $620.00/month for fuel. I do like these vehicles because of there performance and also they are American made.
Since we have a election coming in November, I feel that a referendum should be put forth to ask the people of the United States if they want to drill in ANWR. If the vote comes back in favor, then begin drilling IMMEDIATELY.

  57. You all have a fiduciary responsibility to us, the American people. It was reckless in the extreme to stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserves. Just the fact that it is going to cost us more in the long run for the few pennies at the pump that stopping saved us.
Also, please stop all the extra add-ons to bills. The pork barrell spending is costing the American Public billions. And it's even worse when the bills they are added to have nothing to do with the pork.
My views are shared by many people that I talk to. And as a long haul truck driver, I talk to alot of people all over this Great Land of Ours.

  59. Please do all you can to open up ANWR to drilling immediately and to also come up with a comprehensive energy policy that disregards the hoax of man-made global warming and emphasizes tax breaks for energy exploration throughout the United States. We must also streamline the process to build new refineries and begin recognizing that we need MORE energy to use not to use less energy if we are going to continue to grow and prosper as a nation. We must reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Thank you.

  61. I can't believe that the government has the audacity to pull the CEO's of big oil to the Capital. If the government didn't sell us out for the last thirty years we might be energy independent by now, and not have to worry about big oil.

  63. Why can't we lower gas prices? It'd be great! Gas goes down, and food costs go down, and everyone is happy. Don't listen to Obama, or anyone else that says otherwise. I'm tired of having to cut vacations short, or not going as far as I'd like to go with my family, becasue we can't afford it. If gas was cheaper, I'd have more money, and I'd spend it.

Maybe, instead of giving everyone stimulus checks next time, you should use that money to lower oil costs. I think that'd be a great gift to the American people.

  65. Senator Brown:

I appreciate your response to my e-mail.

I believe your viewpoints are flawed regarding oil exploration and procurement in Alaska (among other locations).

Even if your estimates were correct regarding how much it would lower the price per barrel (and I do not believe they are), at a minimum, the money spent per barrel would at least be spent here domestically rather than overseas.

This would create jobs (union jobs, in some cases) and allow us to benefit from the high value of oil that many other nations (many of whom are not friendly towards America) are able to prosper from.

I recently returned from a business trip to Dubai. It’s spellbinding what that city is doing, much of which is from oil and natural gas revenues…revenues that could be ours if we pursued our own products. Granted, The United Arab Emirates is also a banking capitol of the region.

These renewable sources, like ethanol for example, are not the ‘Holy Grail’ that some are making them out to be. Even rainforest land is being cleared for the purpose of producing corn. It has driven up food prices world wide, adding to an already aggravated cost of living standard that the high oil prices are contributing to.

In my humble opinion, government is one of the problems here. I honestly have more faith in the market than I do the government to solve our problems. Government has a history of creating, contributing to, or worsening problems that they insist that they are fixing, and ethanol may turn out to be the latest example.

If the oil companies are willing to contribute billions into harvesting our resources from Alaska, why not let them? If they’re willing to do it, they obviously don’t have the same outlook that you share with me in your response.

There are no doubt many forces at play that do not want us going after our own oil, and many of them will spin numbers to suit their agenda. Environmental groups, which, if we’re going to be honest here, many of our politicians are beholden to, lobby against drilling under the guise of environmental responsibility.

I trust our government to be more environmentally conscious than I do that of China, Venezuela, Russia, or those in the Middle East. Hurricane Katrina, which captured the political spotlight to an excess, pounded many of our drilling platforms as well as New Orleans and it’s many neighboring states and communities. Did we hear of mass oil spills as a result?

While I’m just one person and one voter, I know from the proverbial ‘water cooler’ conversations I have at work, my opinions are far from uncommon, and this is becoming too large of an issue to be merely tolerated, and I can promise you that this will begin to come out in the elections.

Senate Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi had made comments in her campaign push back in June of 2006 that if we are tired of the rising oil prices, in effect, we need to vote for them, yet the majority of change in oil prices since President Bush took office has occurred in the last year and a half since they took over. It would seem that the speculators did not and do not share her apprasial nor do they put much weight on her promise.

The exploration of ANWR was approved back in the 90’s, and then-President Clinton vetoed the bill, citing that it would be 10 years until we would be able to benefit from it. It has been over that time period now.

This is America, sir. If we set our minds to it, it can be done. Or, we can sit idly by and wait 30 years for hypothetical sources to possibly come to fruition while many of these hostile nations will have our hands tied behind our backs. We need to quit demonizing the oil companies and start working with them. They, frankly, know more about this subject than you or I do.

    Respectfully,

    Jeffrey Sterling

  67. All Congressmen & State Senators :

Your refusal to allow the American People access to the natural resources here in the U.S. is a slap in our face. We demand that you repeal any law or restrictions put in place to stop the exploration or drilling in already known areas of oil and/or natural gas. YOU WORK FOR US by being elected to serve the PEOPLE. I'm sick and tired of you jokers ruining our daily lives by your regulations ---by your love for illegals---your desire for gov't run health care---higher taxes---selling us out to the united nations----trying to lose the war in Iraq---& the constant 7 1/2 year bashing of our President.
I'm praying everyday that GOD ALMIGHTY hears OUR PLEA and that your term expires a.s.a.p.

  77. Whether you think so or not we are in war with other nations over oil, and they are winning. They are destroying the U.S. with oil prices because they know we are dependent on oil. Oil fuels our economy. These nations are laughing all the way to the bank. Why is it OK for these people to make billions of dollars, I don't get it? I also don't get the government ,I don't undrestand why someone like Florida can stop us from drilling in the Gulf of Mexico but China, India and Cuba can drill from the Gulf, whats up with that. As long as we keep getting our oil from other countries we are at the mercy of all oil producing nations. We are really the ones to blame, you really have to let you Congress men and woman know how you feel. They are suppose to do what we tell them to do.
So please listen and Please help us, if not God help us all, because you are going to see a lot worse things coming if something isn't done.

  79. I don't care what the Europeans or any other socialist country pays for their fuel.

I live in Vermont. Do we really want the rest of the country to disintegrate into the liberal/socialist eutopia Vermont has become? The largest export from the state of VT is our kids. We might as well get absorbed into the Adirondak State Park.

This governoment has become a hostage to a minority of loud mouthed, special interest groups, who's only agenda is the preservation their own way of life. So long as they get what they want, the rest of the citizens and hard working folks can go to hell. After all, these envirnmentalists and politicians are so much smarter then the rest of us. Thank god they are only looking out for us. After all, we really need to have 800 permits accepted to build a new refinery in the US.

Here's an idea, let's sue OPEC! Let's sue China and India for consuming too much fuel! Let's take the worlds greatest producer of grain, and divert it to bio fuels (which actually consume for energy to create than they generate) and starve the poor bastard countries who can't help themselves.

No, wait. Here's an even better idea. Let's nationalize all the oil companies and put congress in charge of producing the life blood of the US economy. This way we can put civil servants in charge of "Big Oil". After all, it's worked for Social Security, education, welfare, medicare, medicaid, HUD, FEMA, OSHA, and the glorious EPA. Maybe the UN should take over. That would make everyone happy wouldn't it?

I'd like to see how quickly the price of crude drops, at the mere mention that the US will start drilling in ANWR.

  81. It's about time to stop the bleeding of our money to the Arabs. We must stop the dependency of buying oil from Saudi Arabia. Our government needs to build some large refineries to put a stop to "OUR" oil companies charging us inflated prices at the gas pump.We need to drill in ANWR.!!!!! This is the most do nothing congress in history. It's time to stop thinking about your own angenda and do some thing for the common people.

This country should never need to be dependent on another country especially for oil. They pay .12cents in Venezuela for a gallon of gas and you have let our prices sky rocket to over 4.00.
    You should all be ashamed!
Drill in Anwar NOW... the EPA has ruined this nation and it is a joke at this point. Who are they to dictate what we can and cant do.

  87. Dear Seantor Smith, Wyden and Rep. Wu,

Like many Americans, I am struggling with the incompitency of our Government leaders. It is YOUR job to enable hard working Americans a chance to help themselves. Instead we see an obstructionist government that ties our hands and makes life much more difficult than it should be.

The only thing most Americans want is the chance to help themselves. Instead of focusing on how to stop progress, enable our nation to be to become energy independent. This starts with focusing on pulling fosil fuels in our own country. All of the experts say, gas will be $10 a gallon in the not to distant future. Common sense has been lost by the leaders of our Government, and America is suffering because of it. Please make this happen by drafting legislation to allow drilling in our own nation.

    Sincerely, Joe Wilkinson (Beaverton, Oregon)

  89. Why are we not drilling for our own oil? Why have we not built a refinery for 30 years? Why do we have 60 different blends of gasoline that can't be sold other then in their specific geographic area? If you don't know the answers, let me help. A tiny, small minded group of anti-capitalists. You refer to them as the E.P.A. Please, please, please, make a real decision as to what is good for our country and not for a insignificant group of malcontents. Trust me our children will thank you for not putting them in a position to try and dig their way out of the pit that you are leaving them in.

Do what is RIGHT for the American people instead of what is right for your special intrest groups.......or loose your jobs! I'm speaking to you Sen. Casey We've had it! WE, the American people cannot afford this! We have the technology to drill without hurting the enviroment and you ALL know it.

  101. The only way we are going to have a chance at success in reducing the price is to use what the Lord has blessed us with first, we can no longer rely on others and think that we are going to be alight, we have too many enemies out there whom control the very resources we are buying. The quicker we drill and get these prices down the quicker we can concentrate on everything else.

Quit making us a laughing stock, we are like a beggar asking for more money while we have millions in the bank....

  103. We must immediately begin drilling for oil in ANWR and the Gulf of Mexico. This "do nothing Congress" is putting families and businesses in severe economic crisis and presenting a threat to our national security.

By signing this petition, I hereby declare that I will not vote for any politician who doesn't support an immediate program of tapping this vast supply of oil.

  105. The temporary solution until viable energy alternatives are found is to drill for our own oil in ANWR, off our own coast and in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. In addition, let's loosen the restrictions on building refineries. Isn't there hundreds of permits required for building a refinery? Let's get reasonable and do not listen to the unreasonable people who strap the oil companies with ridiculous restrictions. We are responsible for the high cost of oil because we are restricting the supply and the lowering of interest rates. Let's take responsibility for our own destiny.

  107. Drilling for our own oil is beyond any save the forest thinking. We have enough technology to prevent the oil producing landscape from becomming a wasteland. We must do it now! We can't keep sending money to countries that want us dead. Do you think that this may be one way they can actually inflict harm on the US? They flew planes into our buildings and now they are holding every American by the throat. Soon minimum wage will be one gallon of gas.......actually it already is when you consider that our checks have a gross amount and then the net amount........you know the amount that we get after we pay you! Every increase at the pump is a cut in pay. I can't get to work without gas.......so I don't spend on consumer goods.....thus the economy is slowed....the value of the dollar goes down.....the price of oil goes up because its a world economy. 2+2+ ?? Its that simple. We are held hostage by the "world" economy. Why? We don't need their oil, their food, nor their goods.....yet Amercians pay out the nose because of the rules you make. Make a rule to help the hard working Americans that are forced to pay your salary from the day you take office and then on for the rest of your life.. How many $100,000 dollars is that...? I don't guess 5,6,7,8,9,10 dollar gasoline bothers you guys.....but for the rest of us who work all of our lives for meager amounts.....its a back breaker. Get in touch with the people!

Wake up and do what we want. We elected you. You are our representatives. You need to stop being politicians and start being representatives.

Do something for "we the people". We're tired of your rhetoric of change. Change is all we're about to have left in our pockets.

  111. It is utterly rediculous that this country is not energy independent and that we are now paying almost $4/gallon for gasoline. I don't care if we drill in ANWR, or my back yard, let's get the oil reserves from ourselves first, bring down the fuel prices THEN go for alternative energy sources. Let the environmentalists go build a house next to the polar bears if they don't like it here!

  115. It's time to ignore the environmental lobby and start drilling for our own oil in our own country. Any time political statements are made to the effect that we won't or cannot drill for our own oil, the price of oil is driven higher.

Six words will solve most of our oil price and supply problems:

  119. Get off your duffs and start protecting the American citizens that are, even though you don't believe it or act like it, YOUR EMPLOYERS!!!!! We fought for stopping unfair taxation to free this country from King George I of England and we can surely fight again to free us from unfair oil speculation from King George III of these United States of America (or whomever you shyster in from the three "dummies" running). Live free or die and a nation divided will not stand. We have to stand for something.....or we will fall for anything!

  121. Dear Sirs
I am a very aggravated tax payer that has spent to many dollars at the pump already. This is a petition to drill in ANWR. I don't want to hear anything about the environment because we all know that is a big lie shoved down our throats by the Democrats. We all know that it is the environmentalists that have the the politicians by the short hairs and are controlling the whole drilling issue. Stand up for what is right for all the american people and not just the environmentalists who in all reality don't give a DAM about the environment anyway, it's just a tool to controll alot of other things as well. Who cares if you are a democrat or a republican. Have some decency and support a bill that will put all american consumers first and formost when it comes to our dependance on foriegn oil. If you have any decency at all you will listen to the cry of the american people instead of the left and the environmentalists. Do what you know in your heart is right I beg of you. Support a Bill to DRILL IN ANWR!!!!

  123. We need to drill in Alaska! The cost of gasoline is out of control. We need to become more self-sufficient! We have the resources and should be using them. The Alaskian pipeline was made for a reason...it should be put back in good use. If gasoline continues to go up, people won't even be able to pay for gas to go to work. This will be more damaging to our society! Do the right thing!! You know what it is...just do it!!

  127. There are a number of reasons why to drill, for example technology will not stop moving forward just because we temporarily extend our use of fossil fuels. -The Polar Bear population is not at risk since they number 32,000 now compared to 6,000 in the 70's. -Neither are the porcupine caribou for the same reasons, their number's are growing. - Who better to drill than the US, we are the leaders in technology and could drill more safely than any other country.(also because we care about the environment). -If the majority of people want to drill then it is your duty to try to accomplish what the people want after all I believe you work for us. --I could turn this into a filibuster but the last thing I'll add is 31,000 scientist so far, agree global warming is not man made and we're most likely heading into a cooling phase. So never mind the environmentalists with their agenda and do the right thing, fight for the people.

  129. It has become unquestionable that the current oil prices signal a national emergency, of which manifests the failures of Congress to solve. The demand for oil outweighs current supply, a situation that a 5th grader can understand. Obviously, the Senate is not "smarter than a 5th grader" and would instead tap into the strategic oil reserves, which is alright for short term relief, but would consequently deplete supply for any future situational emergency. The only solution for short and long term relief is to drill in ANWR, the Dakota's, American coastal shelfs, and the many other untapped energy resources. WE THE PEOPLE demand action by our "public servants" whom represent the people, not the special environmental interest groups like Earth Justice, the Audubon Society, Greenpeace, etc.

It is time for the Senators to be held accountable for their continual vetoing of bills that would enable drilling in the vast energy resource of America to meet such demand, thus easing oil prices that have already affected much of the socio-economic spectrum's of life. Help establish a "sustainable" future for our generation and the ones to follow by becoming independent with oil production instead of relying on foreign despotic oil.

I will continue to pray for our great country and God Bless!

  131. Tell foreign oil and Green Peace to take a hike we've got plenty of our own resources. With modern technical procedures and methods most accidents can be handled swiftly and efficiently, we've come along way baby! Pop the tops off of our USA oil wells, let us be rich now, buying our own cheap gas.

    DRILL

    REFINE

  137. People formerly looked to congress to solve problems but over the last 40 years, or so, that hope has reversed itself. Congress no longer solves problems but is showing remarkable creativity in creating more problems. Listen to and act positively on what your constituents say. Stop allowing environmentalists to control you.

  139. We need to public expose daily the Democrats that voted against drilling. I mentioned this to newsmakers over a year ago. Let us not forget Bill Clinton. who in 1995 vetoed drilling because it would take 10years for the process. It' painfully true.

  141. Unless, we as a nation, can improve on wages and the living conditions of the poor, we are going to have to do something to manage our cost of living in this country.  I suggest we start by drilling our own oil wells. and depending less on foreign oil.  Of course we could always allow congress to sell out the American people again.  Our government is good at putting it to Americans, and giving away the bank to foreigners.  There will be another Boston Tea Party!!

  143. Senator Voinovich, Senator Brown, and Rep Sutton,
I am only voting for politicans who use terms such as DRILL, INCREASE US OIL PRODUCTION, and NUCLEAR, without fear. We need to compete with a world that demand is high and we can pay less, if we go into areas such as Anwar, North Dakota, the Gulf( China and Cuba are there) and the Pacific.( 1000 of oil rigs were damaged in Katrina but not one drop of oil was put into our waters. France uses nucleat for 75% of their electrical needs and they copied much of US technolgy.
Please step up the production of US oil and do it quickly.

  145. Congress and Washington is the reason that the gas prices and food and energy are so HIGH!!
Drilling off our shores and in Colorado and Utah and Wyoming is a matter of national security.
If Clinton had not VETOED the bill to drill in ANWR we would already have new refineries and the drilling would be going full force and we would not be in the mess we are in today.
It is up to you and congress to start drilling in our own country.

  153. I'm the son of a farmer and part Sioux, that means I believe in anything to protect mother nature. But I also have common sense. We need to drill and bring up the natural gas out of the ground and use the tax money from that to subsidise research for a permanent solution.

The American people can only be pushed so far. It appears that people in Washington and in select groups of the privledged feel that we are fodder for every special interest group that shows up to wine and complain.

Also, I am not a European nor do I won't to become one.

P.S. I think anyone in the U.N. knows how to pour piss from a boot if the instructions were on the heel.

  155. The enviromentalists maintain that we should not drill for oil in ANWR. Therefore, many Americans make opinions based upon what said enviromentalists state, yet these same Americans have no qualms about pulling up to their local gas station and filling their tank with what is most likely (based upon the fact that 70% of our imported oil comes from Canada) Canadian oil. My point here is that they have no problem using oil drilled on this same continent, but won't drill for oil on their own land ON said continent for fear of hurting the enivorment. In the same breath, one could maintain that to keep from "hurting" the enviroment, America will even stoop to suppling a horrible dictator with U.S. dollars in exchange for his oil. (Citgo.....Venezuelan oil)
This country is so worried about being enviromentally and politically correct that it won't take advantage of what is right HERE in this land. My point is, this country is practically on the edge of a recession and yet we continue to import oil at a much greater cost than actually making responsible use of the oil that we have right under our own land. People whine about how the "big bad mean oil companies" don't want to help out the country by finding a solution. Let me ask this question.......since when does an oil tycoon turn down the chance to go and drill for more oil? Not often. The only reason they can't lies simply with Washington's enviromentally based legislation. I am not at all saying that we should abuse this planet. Quite the contrary; I believe that we should take care of it by using its resources responsibly and correctly. I do believe, however, that if it is a choice between what human life and a pine tree in ANWR, I think I'm going to choose what is best for mankind. I know that in many circles this makes me "selfish," but it is my opinion.

  157. I couldn't believe it when I read that the House and Senate both voted against drilling in ANWR and off the coasts. What are you thinking? And then you put on a dog and pony show and question the CEO's of the oil companies. What a waste of time and money.
This was the Congress that was going to lower gas prices. When you took office gas was $2 something. It's now almost $4 a gallon. You haven't done a thing since taking control of Congress except name a few buildings.
While you're concerned with trying to get a Democrat elected in Nov., the economy is suffering.
Then again maybe that's your goal.

Our Government needs to put asside the petty differamces and realize that whether you are a Democrat or a Republican we are still one intity americans and we need to come together as one and choose the only logical choice besides alternative fuel and drill in ANMR Becouse there are people who cannot afford financially due to there pay scale to get a Electric Car or a Hybrid Car,
Our Government needs to think about the Greater good and do this "NOW" before we are all having to walk to work to afford just to feed ourselves, It's pretty bad when you only make enough to buy gas to get to job and nothing else.

Believe it or not everybody cannot go out and purchase a brand new Hybrid vehicle. Quit letting the rest of the world tell us what to do and how to live. I cannot believe that you in Congress are that blind or stupid to the reality that there is no currently viable alternative to oil in sufficient quantities to sustain economic development in this country. We should wean ourselves from oil, but not in such a drastic fashion that our entire economy and way off life is dramatically lessened.
