  1. It is about time you politicians start thinking about the voters of America instead of special interest groups.
Anyone not voting in favor of drilling in Anwar and the coasts will not get my vote in November nor any monetary support for re-election.

  3. It's COMMON SENSE (witness Thomas Paine, one of the founding fathers, if not, he could have been).

The sooner we start the better. Did you know the Alaska pipeline was co-financed by Japan, so they get 1/2 the oil current;ly recovered? I am appalled how our leaders are so myopic they cannot anticipate the need of the nation 5 years down the road. THAT'S WHAT WE ELECTED YOU FOR!
It's spelled 'proactive'. Ge it? We have the resources, we have the technology, we have the mandate, WE LACK THE LEADERSHIP! Remember The Manhattan Project, or Kennedy's pledge to get to the moon? We can do anything we put our hearts and minds too, history has proven that.

And how about drilling off our coast? I own ocean property and see wind turbines to the west. I'd love nothing more than to see oil platforms to the east - because I'm an American. How about you??

  5. Quit kissing the asses of these damned environmentalists and authorize the drilling for oil in ANWAR. I'm damn sick and tired of paying $4 a gallon for gasoline. I'm on a fixed income and don't exactly have money to (pardon the pun) burn!

  11. Dear Representatives,

As a member of the voting population which you represent, I am asking you to use your voice and resources to initiate drilling in ANWR. We cannot wait the decade or so for alternate energy sources to become available to everyone. I can't afford a new hybrid car. I can hardly afford to buy enough gas to get to work every day as it is. If the cost of fuel keeps rising at the rate it is, soon it will become more economically feasible to quit my job and stay home. The high cost of gas is effecting everything. My family and I don't go out any more. We don't puchase more than the basic necessities. If enough of the populaiton finds itself in the same situation this country will be in an economic shambles. I have voted in every election for the past 30 years, and believe me, in the upcoming elections I will give my vote to whoever supports drilling and expanding refineries in the US, whatever their political affiliation.

  15. To use the excuse of it taking 10 years before we would have any benefit from drilling for our own resources, so why bother, is ridiculous. That's like saying we have a shortage of wheat for flour and food products but we aren't going to allow farmers to grow any more because it will be several months before it even reaches the market. If we had allowed to oil companies to operate as most other companies do, we would not have this problem now. It's incredible that they have even been able to keep prices as low as they have for this long.
Simple scenario, imagine that you are a car manufacturer. You also own a few companies that produce the engines and other components. Now, how much do you think, as a consumer, you would have to pay for a car if GM, after building the engine, had to sell it on the world market and basically buy it back in order to install it in the car they are making. Not only that, but all of the parts that they fabricate for a car. In other words, they would be forced by law to fabricate all the individual parts, then place them for sale on the open market. Then buy them back at full retail before assemblying the car. Then, having to place the finished car on the open market to be bid on and buy it back again before they could ship it to the dealership to be sold to the consumer. This is exactly what is being done to the oil companies, and they have to compete with other governments for the oil on the market, not just other companies.

  19. I as an American citizen, as a veteran, as a former oil refinery worker think it is time you liberals, and progressives ( communist) ; think it is time to drill oil in andwar... It is not the Big Oil companies that are causing high gasoline prices, it is YOU and your invironmentalist money givers to your re election coffers.. You arent fooling any true American.....

  21. Little tinhorn dictators like Castro and Chavez have no problem drilling for their own oil. But the USA, the world's last, best hope for freedom, has its energy policies dictated by a bunch of tree-hugging, snail darter-worshipping environmentalist wacko nutjobs that don't give a tinker's damn that every day we waste costs us more at the pump.

There is plenty of oil right here within the United States and directly offshore. We should begin drilling for it NOW! Remember the Bible where it says, "Get thine own house in order!" That's what we should do. Drill for our own oil, to hell with ethanol and tell the towel-heads to kiss off. We're the United States of America. WE set the tone for the world. We don't cow-tow to a bunch of Euro-weenie wimps with their two-cylinder glorified motorbike autos.

Wake up before it's too late!

  23. Its time we quit relying on foreign countries for our oil..most of who are not friendly towards the United States. I am tired of hearing elected officials saying that we can't drill and expect the price of gas to drop. Yes we can! It is the only way for us to lower the prices. It’s called supply and demand. The more there is of something the lower the price, the less there is, the higher the price. It won't happen overnight but it would lower the price eventually. Average people can't afford to wait for alternative fuel sources. You can help American citizens now by drilling as well as continue to invest in alternative fuels. We all know the price per gallon does not effect you people in Washington but it is killing the American people and this economy. It's time you do something for the American people you pretend to work for.

  25. I agrree we need to "get off oil", While we work on new energy we must dig for our oil. Not digging for our oil has given complete power of our economy to other countries.

  27. These fuel prices are crushing our economy and stagnating economic growth. It being felt in all industries. It is beyond my comprehension that the liberals in Congress are preventing our country from utilizing our countries resources that we have available. With today's technology, we can extract these resources in an enviromentally friendly mannar.

Until we become more energy self sufficient, we will be held hostage to the Arab states. These are the same Arab states the curse us, they are dictatorships, and most of all they want to terrorize us!! Does 9/11 ring a bell.

We need to have immediate energy hearings in the Legislative Branch of Government now to formulate a short and long term plan. America always has and always will be the greatest country on earth, but now even this is being threatened.

  29. When it comes to economics, Father Guido Sarduci made a comment some years ago on Saturday Night Live, "That all you need to know about economics is two things. Number one is - You buy something and sell it for more. Number two is - supply and demand."

Congress recently held hearings with oil company executives regarding the high price of oil and record profits. The average profit margins (buying something and selling it for more) for oil companies are down from 9% to 7.5%. However, the record profits are due to the exceptionally high global demand for oil coupled with a shortage in the supply of oil. Congress protests over the high price of oil and record oil company profits, but has done nothing to help increase the supply to keep up with the demand and help control the price of oil.

China is drilling for oil off our shores in cooperation with the Cuban government, but the United States Congress blocks our own interests from pursuing a similar endeavor. Congress also refuses to consider taping into the vast oil reserves in the Alaskan Natural Wildlife Reserve.

I urge all members of Congress to advance an agenda of drilling for oil in all possible locations to increase the supply of oil to help meet the demand and lower the price.

  31. I consider myself a good American as I have done the following things:

    I pay my taxes.
I own three American made vehicles.
I own an American made motor home.
I own two American made motorcycles.
I own an American made boat.
I buy American whenever possible, even when it costs more.
I never use illegal aliens to work on my home or farm.

I have done my part to make America great. Please do yours. The people in the Middle East hate us and can cut off our oil any time they want. Then what? In addition, drilling for oil, building oil refineries and refining oil are great paying union jobs. Think of the boost in the economy if we start doing these things now.

Alternative energy is a great long-term project. However, we need a mid range solution. Drilling and refining is that solution.

Please help us out. We are counting on you to do what is good for America and not Al Gore or the special interest groups.

  33. Dear Representatives:

I agree that we must drill our way out of this current oil crisis. We need to extract our own resources in these United States where ever we can find them including the outer continental shelf, Alaska, Colorado, etc. Why are we the only country in the world that does not seek to explore
and use our own God given resources? Let's get moving now and get it done. We're Americans and let's not forget it. Our dependence should be on God and not on foreign countries. Let's remember the many statements by our founding fathers and what's written on our U.S. currency, "In God We Trust." As a great leader recently said, oil is the necessary fuel of the engine of this great capitalistic society that we currently reside. Oil will continue to be our main source of fuel for at least the next 50 to 100 years. Let the free market and brilliant thinkers develop the energy of tomorrow but, until then, we must use what we have.

  39. The Congress elected in 2006 made another false promise (as usual) to lower gas prices.
Today I understand that in the hearings with big oil; upon being told by them what could fix this
problem, she ( a congresswomen)stated that (I Know what this Liberal will do is Sociali---( caught herself, stuttered ) )
AND PROCEEDED TO TALK ABOUT COMPLETE GOVT. CONTROL OF OIL COMPANIES.

  41. I really believe there is a lot of potential to develop alternate fuel sources in the next 15 or so years. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have the answer. There are resources in this country that if we continue to let sit will be obsolete in the 15 years that it takes to develop an alternate fuel source. So the time is now and we are all suffering at the pump NOW. So why can't we use our own resources to become less independent on the current providers of oil? Please open up our resources!

  43. As a long time tax paying resident of Pennsylvania, I am very concerned with the lack of action by congress to put an end to the spiraling cost of oil. How long must we wait before environmental restrictions will be lifted to put an end to this insanity? We are on a collision course with disaster and our leaders cannot agree on a plan of action.

High engergy cost influences every sector of our economy. Goods are transported increasing the cost of food, clothes and other essentials. Tourism is reduced because people will travel less. Service industries suffer losses because people have less money to spend. High engery costs equals a worsening economy...something we cannot afford.

The first step is to tell the world the United States will increase oil production. OPEC and other countries are well aware if we start pumping oil, they will lose their control on prices. They will be forced to drive down prices by increasing their production in an attempt to prevent our country from increasing production.

The second step would be to lift drilling restrictions in the United States. Anwr, Colorado, Utah, offshore drilling and other areas should have no restrictions to search and drill for oil. I know it is important to take care of our environment but it should not stop us from finding new oil supplies and drilling for them. We have some of the greatest minds in the world and I know we can care for our environment while at the same time increasing our oil production.

The third step would be production, prodcution, production! Once prices fall we should continue to produce oil. For the next 20 to 30 years our oil prodcution should be the highest in the world. A few new refineries will need to be built and others may need to be updated. Production is the key to taking control of our own destiny.

Last but not least, the long term plan should continue pursuing/promoting alternate forms of energy. Oil is not our future main source of energy and alternate sources are decades away. As the technologies progress, electric cars, hydrogen power, solar power, wind power, wave power and other forms of generating energy will eventually replace oil, both domestic and imported, as our main source of energy. The only way to accomplish this goal is to honestly look at our alternative sources and make realistic plans in conjunction with a temporary plan in increas oil production.

With that having been said, I strongly urge you to introduce and vote on legislation that will tell the world we plan to increase production, lift environmental restrictions, reduce foreign dependence by increasing production and developing realistic plans for long term alternate energy sources.

Your cooperation in this matter will be deeply appreciated. Please respond at your earliest convenience in response to my concerns.

  47. Something needs to change and I hope we don't have to pay the $3 extra for our letters to have an impact in Washington because it shouldn't cost us anything to have something done, and soon!! We are way overdue to helping our own people in the USA instead of helping everyone else in the world. If we don't take care of us, nobody else is going to and that is something the government needs to remember.

  49. Every president and Congress in recent memory has claimed to pursue "cleaner more efficent forms of energy". Yet nothing has happened. Suprisingly, "oil" has become something close to a buzzword when talking about global warming (I'd like to note that it was 51 this afternoon on the verge of summer, but I digress.) The solution to our energy problem is not the continued, fruitless pursuit of biofuels, but rather to use the resources we have not even begun to tap, and that is the vast oil resivior in ANWAR.

Another point Congress has made is to "not become dependent on foreign oil". Then I ask you wouldn't the opposite of foreign oil be "domestic" oil? It seems that every speech on the topic goes to the effect of: "we must become independent from foreign oil, and the only way to do so is to research cleaner forms of energy." We have what we need here in this country already, all that needs to happen is for us to go out and get it.

Researching "cleaner" forms of energy, and expecting an immediate and full-scale transition into whatever form of energy comes around is a pipedream. Not every DVD retailer switched to Blu-Ray instantaneously, and not every fuel station will switch to say, ethanol. While waiting for the cleaner, more effecient way to power our appliances, cars, and everything else, we need more of what we use already.

  53. Hello, my name is Harold, and i'am pissed to say the least, about the high cost of everything without justifyable reason. I feel that the reason is greed, why, because we don't sell enough of anything in the U.S. ANYMORE but we seem to be buying more and more, we pay our farmers not to grow crops, and we depend on the dollar without questioning the reason it is dying in value. WHAT WE SEEM TO BE DOING without a lot of hesitation is catering to everyone's every wimper and complaint from afar, (overseas)...and not challenging anyone or country. WE THE PEOPLE have put up with outsoarcing our jobs and big companies, are we trying to be a third world country. WE THE PEOPLE WILL NOT STAND FOR IT ANYMORE, OUR SOLDIERS DESERVE MORE RESPECT, AND MR. PRESIDENT, WE NEED OUR MILITARY, ALSO WE NEED TO BE THE SUPER POWER. About the OIL...COME ON NOW, LETS STOP THE OVERPRICING OF CRUDE. OH, HOWBOUT THIS, HOW ABOUT WE TAKE CARE OF AMERICANS 1st, CAN WE DO THAT. I'AM RETIRED ARMY N PROUD PATRIOT. LETS SPEND A LITTLE MORE TIME TAKING CARE OF OUR PEOPLE AND LESS TIME WORRYING ABOUT THE SHORTAGE OF ANIMALS. HOW ABOUT WE START HOLDING PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS AND BEEF UP OUR POLICE FORCE AS WELL AS OUR BORDER PATROL. WHAT COUNTRY CAN AMERICANS GO TO AND PROTEST N THE STEETS DEAMANDING EQUAL RIGHTS AND NOT BE A LEGAL CITIZEN OF THAT COUNTRY...HERE IS YOUR ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION..(0)..THATS HOW MANY. This country doesn't have any problems we just have situations, situations that require our commensense and mature minds to get us back on track, and if its wealth u guys in washington, congress and the senate want, YOU ALREADY HAVE IT THE SUPPORT OF YOUR PEOPLE, SO LETS SHOW THE PEOPLE OF THIS WONDERFULL COUNTRY THAT WE CARE...ESPECIALLY TO OUR CHILDREN. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING AND I'LL BE WATCHING YOU. P.S. ABOUT ANWAR I THINK WE SHOULD DO SOMETHING, ALASKA IS VERY BIG AND I THINK THAT WE WOULD ONLY BE USING A VERY SMALL PART TO DRILL IN DON,T YOU. AND I'AM PREETY CONFIDENT THAT THE OIL COMPANIES AREN'T GOING TO BE DELIBERTLY DESTROYING THE STATE OR ENDANGERING THE WILD LIFE. IF THEY DO THEN HOLD THEM RESPONSIBLE. WE NEED TO START HOLDING PEOPLE, BIG OR SMALL COMPANIES RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. I am an over the road truck driver, AGAIN, SERVING MY COUNTRY PROUDLY BY DELIVERING SEVERAL TONS OF NEEDED PRODUCTS ALL OVER THE U. S. AND I SEE OIL WELLS DRILLING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, SO WHAT ARE WE DOING WITH THAT OIL, WE THE PEOPLE NEED ANSWERS. DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT NEGOTIATE WITH TERORIST PLEASE, THAT BUNCH OF PEOPLE WILL NEVER SEE THINGS IN THE DEMOCRACTIC WAY WE DO AND ESPECIALLY IF IT DOES NOTHING FOR THEM TO BE DEMOCRATIC. THEY HAVE DELIBERTLY KILLED INNOCENT PEOPLE WITHOUT REMORSE AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN ON OUR SOIL. I SUPPORT THE TROOPS IN FORIEGN COUNTRIES, EX..WHEN THE CATS AWAY THE MICE WILL PLAY..AND THATS IS HOW IT IS WITH THAT BUNCH OF PEOPLE, THEY ONLY RESPECT POWER. AGAIN THANKS FOR LENDING ME YOUR EARS, MAY GOD BLESS EVERYONE IN THE WORLD

  57. Not using our own resources is absurd. We are the only country in the history of the world to NOT use their own resources, plus we are the only country in history to destroy their own food. Get out of bed with environmentalists and provide for your country. Drilling in ANWAR would leave a footprint the size of Dulles Airport within a region the size of South Carolina....and guess what, we have the technology to drill horizontally also. China is drilling in Cuba, Nigeria is trying to drill in the Gulf of Mexico....are you goin to sit idley by while other countries take resources and hold us hostage for them? Lastly, I feel much better for the environment having Nigeria drilling in the Gulf rather than us....Nigeria is so much more technologically advanced than us, I guess.

  59. All three of you have represented West Virginia for a good many years, however you all have recently faltered in your duties to your constituents and country. The country and your constituents are in dire need and you refuse to listen. Open ANWR, allow drilling off the coasts, utilize shale oil reserves, allow the expansion of our refining capacity, and permit coal-to-liquid plants; these actions require your immediate attention. The latter would go especially far in making West Virginia an economically vibrant state once again.

Should you continue to ignore our advice, then you risk you careers, reputation, and prestige.

  61. WHAT IS SO DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!! If ordinary Americans understand the need to drill for oil and the basic law of supply and demand, then why can't the so called elected officials. I THINK PEOPLE ON CAPITAL HILL ARE GIVING TO MUCH CREDIT TO OUR ABILITY TO AFFECT THE ATMOSPHERE BY DRILLING. Also the environmentalists are affecting our food production and cost with the notion that corn and other biofuels are the way to go. Are our "public servants" so spineless that they can't stand up the the special interest groups of Greenpeace, Earth Justice, the Audubon Society, etc. Our so called "public servants" need to ask themselves why China is able to drill off our Florida coast and we are not??????? It's well past time we drill for our own oil (until technology can develop new means of energy) and become independent for the "sustainability" of our generation and the ones that follow.

With that said I will continue to pray for our country and our leaders.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA

  63. It truly makes no sense to me to be at the mercy of other countries when we have our own resources to rely on! Start the drilling in ANWR NOW before our country's economy is crippled. Scrap the ethanol boondoggle. It's costing us our nation's food supply.

  71. Dear Senator and Representatives,

Please allow us to drill for our own oil. Supply and demand tells us that if we drill while continuing to search for new forms of energy we should be able to come to an aggrement that will please both sides. Be smart and put your country ahead of your own self interest. ANWR and off our coast and oil in the center of the country from coal.

  75. Just like the old saying... If you want something done right, do it yourself. We should be supporting our own energy needs FIRST! The sad truth, is that WE CAN provide our own energy right here in the US. Drilling in ANWR is just one step. We need to be able to build Nuclear power plants too.

  77. Dear Senators,

I feel that we need to do something to curb the rising costs of oil within the United States. I just graduated college in December, and I have had a very hard time keeping up with my bills due to the price of gasoline. I make almost $40,000 and I would consider that a good starting salary, but when I spend almost $500 a month for gasoline it makes it hard to keep up. My work has tried to make things easier by offering me a raise, but it still doesnt help because gas still goes up. Not only is it just gasoline that causes tough times, but it is the rising costs of everything else from milk to bread to even hamburger meat. Now you may say that we are going to vest our money in alternative resources for energy, and thats great but you need to think about the now not the future. I feel we are on a good track for the future but the now looks like a horrific mess. I know that writting this letter will probably not do anything nor do I feel that you will even take the 2 minutes to read it, but I feel that it is my duty as a tax paying citizen of the greatest country and state in the world to speak out when my fellow Americans and West Virginians are being wronged! I hope we dont have another repeat of what happened in the 1970's again.

    Take care and god bless.

  83. It is time for the United States to become energy independent. We are risking our future by not drilling for our own oil in our own country!

Every time our government says that we are not going to allow drlling in our own country, the cost of a barrel of oil goes up. Even a grade school student understands the economic law of supply and demand. In case you don't know that law, when an item in demand becomes scarce, its price rises. When an item in demand is abundent, its price decreases.

It is time to stop listening to environmentalist fanantics. We do not have to destroy our environment to retrieve resources. No one I know wants to live on a planet that is dirty and polluted. We have the technology to live well and environmentally safe. Again, I urge you to allow oil and gas companies to drill for the resources in Anwar, on the continental shelf, in Colorado and where ever else they think they can.

You are all very quick to blame the oil companies for their "windfall profits". However, I do not consider a profit of $0.08 on a gallon of gas a windfall. Even if the oil companies made no profit, the price of a gallon of gas in my area would go down from $3.99 per gallon to $3.92. Now there is a real savings!

It is your JOB to protect this country. The first line of defense is a strong economy and an economy needs fuel to run. Do your jobs and pass the laws necessary to drill for oil in our country.

  89. It is time to tell the environmentalist and Opec to go fly a kite. We need to drill for oil in the U.S.A and we need to do it ten years ago not sometime in the future. We have the ability to drill for oil without a major impact to the environment. Technology has come a long way in thirty years. We also need to build nuclear power plants and refineries. While we're busy drilling and building we also need to look at alternative energy such as hydrogen, wind, solar and geothermal. We have seen what ethanol can do to the planets food supplies. People in the poorest nations are starving to death from lack of corn. Let's use some common sense and get to work on the real problems. Fuel prices are controled by supply and demand and of course the futures traders. Drilling will increase supply and by using altenative fuels such as wind and nuclear we can reduce demand.

  97. Drilling in Anwr will not hurt anything. There is such a tiny piece of land they need to do this. Why are other countries allowed to drill off shore and not us. The ships carrying the oil have done more to hurt the environment than any oil rig. We are cutting our own throats and you do not seem to care! Stop making us dependent on other countries. Do it here, it will not only give us our own oil it will also create many new jobs that Americans WILL do! Also let them build the refineries we need!!!

  99. We all know this should help lower the price at the pump. Even if it does not, dont we have the right to purchase AMERICAN fuel. Or is it in our best interest to continue buying foreign oil at the rate of more than 2 million dollars a day.

  105. I think it is way past time for a reality check. You could not convince me that there is one good reason to not drill and pump from the Alaska wilderness or any other area of the continental USA.

We are already 20 plus years behind both in exploration and an energy policy. Republican or Democrat you should all be ashamed for poor planning and taking a partisan position. I think the title “politician” has become synonymous with some other less than legal and unspeakable professions.

It is too bad that you are the only ones that respect your profession since the people that put you there certainly do not!!

If you worked in industry and performed as you presently perform, you would be GONE!

You should start to personally feel the pain you have caused this country and its citizens.

  113. We need to stop relying solely on foreign oil. While I don't like pay this much for gas, I would gladly pay $4.00 per gallon for gas produced WHOLELY in the US, by US companies instead of by countries who hate us. To have a country like this so reliant on another countries' resources is phenominally ignorant. The lack of foresight and action by this government in this matter by ALL sides is appalling.

I'm also tired of listening to Democrats and Republicans who downgrade the oil companies who produce the oil and transport it across the US for a measley $0.07/gallon profit while the government makes a minimum of $0.40+/gallon, at least in Ohio, and all we get is more regulations, higher taxes and higher costs. I'm betting the oil companies get more out of the $0.07/gallon they make than the government out of their thievery. Maybe it is just where I live, but I haven't met anyone who is against drilling for oil. I would sure like to understand this governmental desire to please a token few with little credentials or factual backing to decide anything.

I've already decided that I'm not voting for any Democrats and I personally feel that the majority, both Democrat and Republican, need to be removed from office. We need people in office that are going to cut our taxes, properly utilize the tax money that is collected, who will let free market rule, and worry more about the things the government was created to do.

  117. Our Congress has ignored the problem of our becoming energy self-sufficient for too long. It's time to act for a short term relief program while others work on long term solutions and alternative energy solutions. Quit wasting your time with needless investigations of the oil companies; it's in their best interest as well as their stockholders' interests(many of whom are middle class pension plan holders) to provide us with enough oil. Stop listening only to the radical environmentalists and start using some common sense in addressing this problem. Most of this current situation, in our opinion, is due to Congressional interference in oil company business. Your Constitutional duty is to keep America strong while promoting an atmosphere for individuals to live their lives. Everything this Congress has done (in the last 30+ years) up to this current energy situation has made it more difficult for the average American family, all businesses, and the less fortunate to make ends meet let alone save. Also, any suggestion of a government take over of the industry is preposterous and unAmerican.

  123. Dear Elected Representatives,

Please open up Anwr for drilling. Why should we continue to pay high prices at the pump when we could be getting our own oil. The gas prices did not start to escalate until Democrats took control in Washington. Please stop this cycle of making the home owners and working indivuduals pay for this injustice.

    Sincerely,

    Cheryl Manzella

Remember the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. The Germans with their superior tanks were defeated when they ran out of fuel to run them. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. It will be years before we can retool for a new energy souce and in the mean time we need the oil that this country has. We need it to bring the speculation prices down and there for the gas prices. We need it to keep our economy growing. But most importantly we need it for our own security - NATIONAL SECURITY!! Quit listening to the enviromental minority and listen to the people who elect you. And for the dabate over the benifit out waying the risk - Oil companies just like any business will not take a risk unless they see a reward at the end. So if they are willing to drill let them. 139. I strongly urge congress to immediately authorize drilling in ANWR. This is an issue of National Security and NOT environmental protection. It is two-faced and disengenouous to, on the one hand, cry foul concerning national debt and weak currency due to war funding, etc, and yet prevent our ability to strengthen the dollar and lower the debt by preventing drilling for new sources of oil within our borders, including ANWR and off shore areas. Please vote to drill in ANWR........NOW!

I am OUTRAGED that our goverment has been talking about this (both sides of the isle) for almost that long. NOW, because of them catering to the eco freaks, they are blocking us from using our own resources. THEY (MOSTLY DEMOCRATS) ARE TRYING TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY. WE MUST NOT LET THEM (THE ILKS OF AL GORE) BRING US DOWN!!!!!! WRITE THEM EVERY DAY!!!!! THEY HAVEN'T TRIED ALTERNATATIVES FOR ALL THESE YEARS AND EVEN IF WE DO MAKE PROGRESS ON THAT IT WILL TAKE MANY, MANY YEARS. DRILL IN ANWAR NOW AND ANYWHERE ELSE WE CAN THAT PROVES VIABLE--CUT REGULATIONS ON REFINERIES, CLEAN COAL--INVEST IN NECULAR WHATEVER, WE CAN'T RUN THIS COUNTRY ON CORN AND BATTERIES!!!!SEND THE DEMOCRATS TO THE 3RD WORLD TO STAY SINCE THEY LIKE IT SO MUCH.

  143. Some of you elected officiials need to understand that Saudi Arabia and other oil producing countries just do not like us and are not going to increase their production. The only thing that they will increase is the cost of oil per barrel.

Meanwhile Americans are paying more for fuel, cost of food and other goods which must be increased by the Truckers to make a meager profit. People making minimum wage just to make ends meet are suffering drastically just to survive.

While you increase your salaries and give yourselves all different types of perks, such as good health benefits, tremendously good retirement benefits, cars to drive around in etc, all which are paid by the American public!

You should all be ashamed of yourselves and start doing what is right, concerning the oil crisis. After all you represent the American people, so do what you can to help us.

We need to start drilling for oil in this country, which means anwar and other places in this country! Also we need to construct more oil refineries to increase the demand.

I as an American will do my part to conserve this precious resource, but let us fix this problem now
and approve drilling in this country. I am tired of listening to these environmentalist who think they know everything that is good for us but prove nothing!

  151. I have had enough! In the best interest of our great Nation, we must drill for oil and build new refineries in our own country. We must also build nuclear power plants. It is absurd and totally unacceptable to let a few wack-o's dictate the will of the American People. I am sure all the middle east countries are laughing at us--we have all this oil and are not going for it. They can control the US by with-holding oil or selling to other countries such as China, and India. We pay your salaries--get to it!

  155. Dear Sir,
I am writing you today to respectfully request that you support the movement for the United States to become energy independent.

Currently, the oil fields of northern Alaska produce more oil than any other domestic region.
There have been no negative effects on the environment caused by the harvesting of this oil, other than the impact of temporary petroleum workers on the 5 permanent residents there.

The 1002 area in Artic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is estimated to have significant petroleum deposits, exceeding those of Prudhoe Bay.
Prudhoe accounts for about 17% of all domestic oil production.
Should ANWR produce only to this level, we would cut our Middle East import requirements by nearly 75%.

In addition, by increasing the availability of crude oil to the market, prices charged by other suppliers will fall.
These prices will likely decrease merely on the news that additional supplies are coming online.

The largest oil field in existence today would require less than half a percent of the ANWR area.

Opening this Artic wilderness area to oil production would have a significant impact on the economic well-being of the United States, her citizens and her allies.
I strongly urge you to take immediate action to open this remote area for energy production, and help our country in this time of energy crises.

    Sincerely,
    Randy Rhoades

  159. When is Congress going to wake up and realize that we are not only in a war against terrorism but that we are in an energy war. OPEC and other nations are holding us up like the puppets we've become and our government refuses to do anything about it except to go and beg for more production. Why is it that this country is handcuffed as far as developing more refineries, nuclear power plants and using the untapped recources of our own country. Stop the partisian bickering and get moving on drilling for our own supplies of oil, cut the red tape so someone could make money building some new refineries and get moving on some new nuclear plants. Even France is 70% nuclear. You want electric cars...They have to be plugged in to something. Nobody wants dirty water or air but a lot of the government regulations are stiffiling any growth in our energy independence.
