It is unreasonable & unfair for the government of the United States to make the taxpayers of this country pay exhorbitant amounts of money for oil when it could loosen the restrictions on drilling & refining, thereby allowing for a greater supply of oil. Simple economics of supply & demand. We should not be punishing oil refining companies for making money. Isn't making money part of the American dream? The $125 a barrel oil cost is not the fault of Shell or Exxon. They are simply paying what the market demands for a barrel of oil. If the oil companies were allowed to drill for oil & refine more oil here in the US, the oil producing nations in the middle east would not be able to control the oil price by limiting supply.
We need to stop buying so much oil from the Middle East!!!!

Washington Representatives;JUST DO IT! We need to start ramping up our drilling capacity and make this country strong again. We keep selling out to all these foreign countries and special interest groups. We are tired of being held hostage from all these other countries and groups. It is going to take years to get the drilling going and the refineries built. It is time to take charge and provide tax breaks for creative entrepreneurs to find alternative methods to oil. It is going to cripple our country if we don't act now! I am one taxpayer that believes that our politicians are more worried about their political futures instead of helping our country stand tall and take charge. While you are at it, take some of that oil from IRAQ and send it over here. I think us taxpayers have contributed enough to rebuild IRAQ while our country goes bankrupt taking care of all the worlds problems!
Mr. Specter we don't need any more investigations that spend millions of our taxpayer dollars foolishly! It is time to do your jobs and make this country strong and I'm tired of hearing about all these Arab countries! Change our laws and get our oil companies to invest in America and America workers and promote ingenuity.

It is way past time to stop America from being held hostage by OPEC. The U.S. government has broken up large corporations in order to give consumers choice. Competitive markets are the way to go for consumers. Please let us enter the market by drilling for what is rightfully ours. It's only common sense--the law of supply and demand. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Why are my elected officals silent on this issue? I am paying $3.75 per gallon of gas. The best that you can do is say that you may lift the federal gas tax. This is no solution. The common sense solution is to explore for oil in our country. Since when do special interest groups trump the common good? I have heard nothing from the republican minority on this issue. Why are you all not lobbying the president to step to the plate? Why are you all not stepping up and making your voices heard? The current posture on the enviroment defys common sense. Make yourselves heard . Drill!!!!! wherever now!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yea...One last thing...Mr. Specter, with all do respest...At this time whether or not the New England Patriots are cheaters is of little consequence. Can you smell the smoke? Enviromentalists have WAY TOO MUCH CONTROL. CONTROL gives them POWER to make decisions that only benifits themselves, and hurt the rest of the country. The polor bears are doing just fine, and WE HAVE TO HAVE OIL NOW!Signed the daughter of a petroleum engineer, who has been raise from the craddle hearing how "we have so much oil in the ground, it would take centurys to use up".

The reasons that I agree with Drilling in ANWR are very simple. We are told that we are dependant on the very people that we are in conflict with. The same ones that attacked us on 9/11. we are either continuing to do business with them because of greed, or gross stupidity. (And I FIRMLY believe that it is GROSS STUPIDITY!)Why would a country as great as ours, and a people so decent as ours continue to deal with those that seek our demise?
To you Gentlemen and Ladies, I say, do not stray from the difficult path. Though it be difficult, the futher we trace it, the easier it shall become. Then the whole world will know of the greatness and justness of our pursuit of Freedom and Liberty.
So be not afraid or swayed by fear mongering. We Shall Prevail!

I feel it is in our National Security Interest to drill ANWR, North Dakota, Colorado and off of the continental shelf of the United States. Use of foodstuffs as fuel is unacceptable and has driven up food prices and caused shortages. For the future stability of energy prices and food prices, Congress needs to act now and open up these areas for drilling. This comment has been reported to the site manager. Anwar is a tundra with grasses growing in summer and nothing else. Are you aware that the sunspots which should have occurred by March 31st have not as yet appeared. According to scientists this means we are entering a cold period. Needless to say, we will need more fuel for warmth. During the 1800's there was a year without summer, a fact! Ponder that! This is not to say this will occur however it is not out of the question either.
Why have you not pursued other avenues of securing oil for our country?
Why is China drilling for oil off our Florida coast 40 miles out?
Why is not the US drilling for our own oil?
Do you not know that last year a highly significant discovery of oil in the Gulf of Mexico was found?
Are you saving this for China too?
Why is the oil which seeps onto the beachs in Southern California from off the coast not being drilled?
Are you saving this for China too?
Why have you not pushed for coal to fuel conversion since we have a huge supply in our country of coal? Recall Germany during WWII who did the same?
Another significant discovery of oil was made in the Bakken Formation, Williston Basin Province, Montana, and North Dakota. Est. mean undiscovered volumes of 3.65 billion barrels of oil, 1.85 trillion cubic feet of associated dissolved natural gas, and 148 million barrels of natural gas liquids according to the USGS. In short why are you not facilitating development of the USA's assets? Do you worship the environment to the exclusion of the US citizens wellbeing and livelihoods? I have not even touched on the topic of the massive, massive oil sands (shale) in Colorado, etc. All I see is everytime a proposal to drill in Anwar is brought to the floor our congress votes it down. I conclude you are not serious about our economic peril from lack of oil and would rather pursue solar (not applicable for the entire US) wind, ditto, and yet to be found nebulous energy sources. I did not even touch on the fiasco of ethanol. Recall 1970 when it was tried and proved unsuccessful. Why a redo of a failed effort? The final insult this week was the political expedient of feel good measures to release fuel from our national reserves. One lonely American opposed this. Speaks volumes for our congress. Short term feel good measures, no statesmanship. I include both Democrat and Republican parties as equally guilty.

Please start drilling in ANWR. This may not be a quick fix but it is important that we are not as dependend on outside sources for a stronger America in the future. The oil companies have been good at preserving the environment. Our government has given in to special interest groups for to long and it is time now to start thinking of what is best for America and stop thinking about how to get another vote. Americans want our environment to improve but most of our laws only hurt us instead of help us. We can have our cake and eat it too. We can improve our enviroment and use the resources available to us.

I wonder what happened to common sense? It's very frustrating to know that just beyond our grasp is a field of oil so extensive that we would not have to depend upon foreign oil. I'm being to believe that our President (past and present) want us to have this dependency upon others. Perhaps our government is so filled with liberals and animal rights activist that our rights as Americans comes second? I and my fellow Americans just want our government to represent us and not line their pockets with foreign money. I wonder if perhaps we can just fire those in congress and our representatives. We could begin a grass root idea of representation of the people for the people. What a grand idea! Hmmmmmmm. Could that be what our forefathers idea was when they wrote the Declaration of Independence? Well, it's just a thought. Are we not individualists? Can we not think on our own and come to intelligent decisions without the government doing it for us? Stop the insanity and wake up people! This comment has been reported to the site manager. I have written this letter to ask that each of you please support efforts to drill in ANWR in order to increase our oil supply and thereby drive prices down. Moreover, I would ask that each of you relook the issue of nuclear power in the United States and particularly, in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Nuclear power is a clean, cheap and, believe it or not, very safe mode of power. Furthermore, my understanding is that there are but two companies in the world that produce the steel superstructures for nuclear reactors. If through your joint leadership, Kentucky somehow found itself in front in involving itself in such a business enterprise, the result could be a lot of jobs for Kentuckians when the nation finally realizes that nuclear power is in fact a viable and safe means of producing energy. This will happen.Representative Yarmuth, if you are scheduled to speak once again at this year's Memorial Day service at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, I hope you will have sufficient respect for the occasion and for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country to refrain from politicizing the event by criticizing the Iraq war. I can assure you that those of us who have fought in the war are sufficiently aware of the respective issues so as to dispense with any need for you to tell us what you think we should know.

At this point in time it is really critical that the US begin to drill for it's own oil. We need a consistent and reliable source of oil, one free from political conflicts or trade issues. I think the most viable solution would be to tie the permission to drill to research and developement of alternate fuels. No one thinks that oil can sustain us forever, but it is the current need in every area of society. If congress really wants to help the citizens of the United States doing something to ease the cost of energy in anyway would be the best place to start.

The price of oil and gas is a major pressure on the American economy, and with these outrageously rising prices, we need to drill for our own oil so that America can support itself. We are competing with larger nations that do not have their hands tied by environmental issues, and they are able to dump more money into buying crude and refining it less. America needs its own oil and its own refineries in order to maintain its economic strength in the world today. Please support and lobby for drilling in ANWR.

I am pleading with you to put the well-being of our country and it's citizens ahead of your political agenda, whatever that might be, and immediately authorize not only the drilling for oil in Alaska but also exploration for other natural resources that God provided for us when the earth was created. To ignore the will of those you are supposed to be representing is disgraceful. You are paralyzing our country and are imposing unnecessary hardships on all of us just to satisfy George Soros, The Audobond Society, with Mr. Flicker and the other environmental extremists who are paying you folks to sit by while the country and our economy is going to hell.
I never thought that I would live to see the day when I would be praying to our God to keep you people from creating more laws to ruin our country but unfortunately that day is here.
I am also praying that sometime soon a majority of Americans will have had enough of this nonsense
and start paying attention to what is happening and who they are voting for.
It is quite understandable that you folks have an eighteen per cent approval rating .
I am praying daily that you will come to your senses befor it's too late and decide to do what is best for our country.
I know that your political careers are more important than anything else however if you ruin our nation then what have you accomplished, unless of course, that's what the objective is.

Let's stop pandering to the environmental lobby. We need to drill not only in ANWR and but in the Williston Basin's Bakken Formation which is located in Montana and North Dakota as well as off our coasts. Why is China drilling for oil off our shores while our companies are prohibited from doing so? Drilling can be done in an "environmentally responsible" manner – the technology exists. There is no excuse for the USA to be held hostage by OPEC when we have oil available to us in our country. We need fuel so Congress has turned to ethanol. Ethanol production for fuel is proving to be a bad idea. It is inefficient to make. It requires more energy to produce ethanol than the energy that it contains. The corn required to fuel a car for 10,000 miles of driving can feed 7 Americans! This problem doesn’t even address our military needs. When you factor in that reality that we don't have enough farm land to grow the corn required to produce the ethanol that we need to power just the automobiles that Americans own right now, ethanol-based fuels become very unattractive as an alternative to gasoline. It has driven up the cost of food across the board; milk, meat and vegetables prices are all up substantially. This is the unintended consequence of legislating when free market solutions (i.e. drilling for more oil) are available. Congress needs to repeal ethanol subsidies as the cost of food and fuel affects the "little guy" most.
If you are serious about supporting the American people, and especially working Pennsylvanians, please consider one of our greatest natural resources - coal. As a coal producing state, our elected representatives should support clean coal technology. Our very own Consol Energy is working to perfect technology that converts coal into gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel. This technology was discovered more than 80 years ago and is relatively non-polluting when combined with the technology being developed in conjunction with the Department of Energy’s Clean Coal Technology Program. This option deserves serious consideration.
We can’t hope that one of the many technologies will solve our energy problems simply by throwing taxpayer money at it. When hydrogen fuel cells are perfected or cellulosic ethanol becomes reality, then great – I will be among the first to use it. In the meantime, we need to drill for our own oil. Stand up for the USA – drill for American oil now.

If any of you truly care about the people of West Virginia, you would be putting politics aside and actually trying to do something about gas prices. It is going to take a lot more than a rebate check to solve the crisis we are facing. We don't want to hear that you could solve problems at home if only we were not in Iraq. We are. Unfortunatley, the Democrat Party is beholden to the environmentalists and refuses to break free from them for the good of the country. I hope that I, as a citizen of the U.S. and resident of WV can count on the three of you to work with Republicans and start tapping into the resources we have here at home instead of purchasing oil from unstable regimes around the world. Show us that you truly represent we the people and not just the environmentalists. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

We can no longer bow to the will of the environmental lobbies who have successfully prevented us from securing our OWN natural resources and made us and our economy slaves to a most dangerous part of the world. Drill in Anwar, off-shore in the Gulf and whereever else oil reserves are found! Build refineries. Start now! Maybe in 50 years there'll be a viable, alternative source of fuel--but one DOES NOT NOW EXIST! Ethenol is clearly creating more problems than it could ever solve. Why are we trying to commit economic suicide by not drilling and refining our own oil? This makes no sense. We have the technology now to drill with little or no environmental impact. President Clinton vetoed drilling in ANWR in 1993 saying it would take ten years to get oil from there. That was fifteen years ago, would it not be nice to have that oil now? One thousand drilling rigs destroyed in the Gulf of Mexico during Katrina, not a drop of oil spilled. Australia has been drilling for forty years..not a drop of oil spilled. Environmental concerns do not hold water, the technology is there and I'm a twenty year environmental chemist. Global warming is a scam but that is another topic. Everybody can drill off our coast but us, no wonder the US is a laughing stock at the oil exploration conferences.

Do you think that your actions are without future consequences? You must be so selfish that you don't even care about your own children, because everything you do has consequences down the road and even your family will be affected by the your unbelievable ignorant decisions. I for one do not want to have the rest of the world telling us where we can drill for oil and that I need to pay for those RETARDED carbon credits. I think I am going to start selling calorie credits, makes the same amount of sense. The gas prices are outrageous, almost $4.00/gal. and yet we have more oil in our own country than the Middle East. But due to environmental idiots and Al Goreleoni TOTAL A__HOLE we can't drill for it. The way congress runs it makes me think that it is run by representatives from another country, certainly not this one. If I did my job the congress does I would be ashamed, in fact in the business world you would be fired. But then I know who I answer to every day and you maybe able to fool man but, God knows the truth. If you think you can get away with being unresponsible by not doing what the people you represent want and get away with it you are sadly mistaken. You better wake up, because some day you will be accountable for what you did and there isn't any attorney that can exonerate you before God. He is watching you and will hold you accountable for all of the wrongs you are doing, He knows your heart and motives also no amount of money will buy your way out and for the little bit of pleasure that you may be deriving from it will seem like a vapor when you spend eternity separated from God. He is also forgiving but you have to stop what you are doing and do what is right.
Ask yourself this question if you hired someone to build an addition to your house and they built a deck instead and then demanded pay. But you said I didn't ask you for a deck and they said so, I wanted to build it anyway now pay me, would you? I doubt it because that would be stupid, yet that is what you are doing to us when you don't listen and do what your constituents and vote the opposite. You should be fired right? Start doing what you were hired to do REPRESENT US.
So why did I write about God? Because every person, every knee will bow before Jesus and say that He is Lord. There is still time left to do what is right! In case you need reminded, this country was founded on Godly principles, however we seem to have forgotten them. The bible says it is "the LOVE of money that is the root of evil". Therefore based on what is going on in congress the only logical conclusion that any person with some intelligence can conclude is there must be money that influences the decisions. It certainly isn't factual about global warming. And if it isn't money than the only other conclusion would be ignorance and if that is the case than admit it and resign because you are too STUPID for your job.
I sincerely hope and pray you start to examine what you are doing each day, every vote, the motive behind it, was it what is right for the people I am suppose to represent or was it in my own best interest. More importantly what would God think, am I doing what is right for my country and not my wallet? Can I in clear conscious know I have done what is before God. There is NO amount of money that can make you feel better than having a clear conscious before God. We need to have our congress start to think about the principle that this country was founded on and not the almighty dollar or we are going to end up like Russia and we know that doesn't work.
I am by no means perfect, but each day I get better I think of other people and I realize I am not the center of the universe. I may not be completely where I need to be but I am better than I used to be. We go from glory to glory if we press on toward the mark that God has put for us as we work toward the goal of being Christ like.
For now lets drill in Anwr at least we can increase the supply of oil and put a little pressure on the
Middle East. DO WHAT WE WANT!!!
Sinerely, a concerned citizen who loves this country an prays the leaders will come back to the Godly principles it was founded on.
God Bless all of you!

Dear Senator or Representative,The House of Representative is supposed to be representative of the needs of the people. You, as an organization, have failed to do so; therefore, in order to appease the citizens, I ask you to consider drilling for oil and relieving the cost of gasoline that has been bestowed upon us. As for the Senate, you are extremely powerful in the legislative process and must respond the outcry of the American populous. The cost of gasoline is outrageous and will destroy the economy and this great nation, unless something is done immediately. I am proud to be an American and have the utmost respect for this great country. I want to see our politicians stand up for the American people and do what is right. I believe that it is in everyone's best interest for us to become less dependent on foreign sources of energy. I believe that it is your time to stand up for your country and to support your constituents. If you do not help in some way, you will most certainly be removed from your post and replaced with someone who will get the job done. Thank you and may God Bless America.

Please quit catering to the political green agenda. The polar bear population is expanding daily. Please start drilling in ANWR (and in the Gulf of Mexico, for that matter, before China exploits us yet again). We need to be energy independent from the dangerous warlike factions in the world, and the sooner we start the sooner that can be accomplished! This comment has been reported to the site manager. I am furious that we are not drilling in Anwar. There are new finds in North & South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana & Utal. The Liberal Democrats & Liberal Republicans have opened us up to blackmail from the Saudis & Chavez.Mexico, The Chinese, Cuba are drilling in the Gulf.
Out the door you Senators & Congressmen go unless you drill & give us refineries & nuclear power.
I don't want Alaska to go to the Polar bears. Down with Liberals and anti-American Senators.

There is no logical reason why we shouldn't drill for oil in our own land. The polar bears are fine and the caribu will not be affected. Global warming is a lie and I am ashamed of the Republicans in power who have failed to fight for what the people want. John Mccain is no exception. This comment has been reported to the site manager. Honorable officials in ohio,I ask to please open our resourses for use,
Untie the hands of the men with the talent, determination, and capital that would use those
resourses to provide us with the fuel and energy we need.
Allow us to drill and refine our own oil.
Mine and burn our coal.
fire the furnaces in our mills.
In short please untie the hands of the prime movers, and get out of their way.
Left unhindered they will bring us the prosparity we deserve

It is time we do what should have been done 10 years ago. Congress get out of the way YOU are the reason for high fuel prices and you blame everyone else but yourselves. You know absolutely nothing about this business. It is time for you to step aside and let the oil companies do what they do best. It is time to tell the middle East that we are not going to put up with this any longer DRILL DRILL and build the refineries that are needed to keep up with demand. Get out of the way Congress NOW!!!This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

We must utilize our natural resources. Our resources are what has made this country great. In our great capitalist society, we must let the market use resources and develop alternatives. We MUST move away from nationalization and socialism which is where the once great Democrat party is heading. Do NOT let the Democrat party become the Nationalist-Socialist party of decades ago.
As representives of this great state, you must have the moral courage to allow our markets to drill and refine oil. Eventually, we will run out. However, with government controls, you are causing the market forces to artificially act as if we have already run out of oil, rather than using what we have until we find an alternative.
Vote in favor of drilling in ANWR, or I will switch parties and work to vote each of you out of office. Remember, you represent us; we do not serve you.

ENOUGH!!!!! I'm sick and tired of our elected officials, on both sides of the aisle, allowing the destruction of our country from within. I want the elected officials to have the courage to stand up for the people and bring our country back to what it once was. Cut taxes, open our oil supplies (tell the Arabs to eat their oil), close the borders, send the illegal aliens back. crack down on crime, and win the war in Iraq. Tell Iran to shape up or suffer the consequences of an open confrontation with us. Also, kick the U.N. out of the U.S.In Kentucky, our primary vote usually doesn't matter. We Republicans have the same thing this year. McCain has been forced on us by the voters in other states that have earleir primary elections. I want all primary elections to be held on the same day across the country, and I want the polls to open and close at the same time, regardless of the time zone. The polls in the eastern zone would be open from 11:00A.M. - 9:00 P.M. and the polls in the western-most time zone would be open from 7:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.

It seems inconceivable that the USA does not drill for oil in ANWR.If only more people understood that this part of the world is the ideal place for God to put oil.
It is cold, miserable, mostly in perpetual darkness and no one goes there.
Where else should God put oil that can be used? Washington DC?
However, the ecologists have a word for "cold, dark and miserable" and that is "pristine" and when "pristine" is used people see sunshine and green meadows in their mind..........very clever these ecologists.
The caribou are flourishing in Prudoe Bay as a result of the pipeline bringing some warmth to this blighted, frozen wasteland and no doubt the polar bear (the ecologist's poster child) are also having a fine time but you will not hear much of that on the media.
What about the Alaskans? I believe they want some of the prosperity that ANWR drilling would bring so why not drill.
Do your job politicians........and that is do what the majority of the people who voted you in to power want you to do. Get the USA off foreign oil.

If environmentalists are so concerned about drilling in this country, why aren't they concerned with drilling in other parts of the world? I thought they wanted to save the planet. We definitely should be drilling for USA oil in ANWR and we should be drilling for USA oil off the Florida coast. Why are we sitting around playing games and allowing other countries to take oil that is located so close to our shores. American people must wake up and start asking WHY? Why are our senators and representatives not going forward to obtain USA oil? This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I respectly ask you to open our lands to drill for oil. The current spike in gas prices hurts every American in every aspect of their lives. The increase in gas prices have caused food to increase in prices. Our truckers are loosing money by doing business and our airlines can't continue at this rate. We need to open our grounds for drilling! Oil powers this country and as it stands now our enemies control the supply. As a former Democrat for over 34 years and now an Independent voter I think the games our Congress and Senate Democratic bozos are pulling is atrocious. Your hatred of OUR President will be the death of us all. I know it is all about POWER but you folks were elected by the people. You are supposed to serve the people not your parties or yourselves! I find the arrogance in D.C. disgusting! You and You Alone will destroy our country for your power.
