I have seen horses that are so vicious that they need to be destroyed rather than destroy a human. I would also rather see a horse euthanized rather than suffer the slow painful death of starving to death because their owner cannot feed and take care of their needs. Let's face it the horse market is bad and has been and will be for years. I would want the option if I needed it.This comment has been reported to the site manager. We need to reopen the facilities in the United States.....and to make sure they are HUMANELY put down.....not send our problems to Canada and Mexico. WHat a joke...out of sight out of mind. We need to think address the problem and do what is best for our beloved horses. Euthanasia is the BEST option when they are no longer wanted or able to be cared for. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Dear Mary M/Monticello, KY:There is already an option available for 'unwanted' and 'crippled' horses. It's called "a veterinarian" -- they have a service called 'humane euthanasia'
(which, despite what all the pro-slaughter advocates want you to believe, is NOT the same as slaughter...)
The idea that people are unwilling to pay a couple hundred dollars for veterinary euthanasia and carcass disposal fees is *disgusting*. Horses are *not* a necessity--they are expensive to care for properly and a luxury for most people. People who claim they cannot afford the expense to humanely euthanize and dispose of a carcass should never have owned a horse in the first place.

Just don't understand the mentality of people who think they can dictate to others how to manage their property when it does not impinge on their rights. I just think that it is insance to criminalize the humane processing of any animal for food. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. To Thomas J/Chagrin Falls:Sorry to inform you, but this is NOT about *PROPERTY RIGHTS*
Example:
Your dog is protected by animal cruelty laws. If you beat, starve, neglect or otherwise inflict pain and suffering on that dog, you are subject to your local animal cruelty statutes. Claiming your dog is your "property" thereby giving you the right to do with him as you please doesn't grant you immunity from the law.

What a load of rubbish Sue Wallis and her followers are feeding you. This is *NOT* about abandoned, starving or neglected horses. (all of which occur with the same regularity even with the availability of slaughter) This is about *money* and lots of it that Sue and her buddies see slipping through their fingers, as horse-slaughter is a yearly multi-million dollar business. She and her supporters also want to convince folks it's all about the 'poor starving, neglected horses' and what she calls the "Evil Vegan Agenda"-- because if you can't eat horsemeat, obviously your hamburgers and pork chops are next on the Evil Vegan's Agenda...bwha bwha-ha...Her arguments are ridiculous and are geared to play on the emotions of people who care about horses and believe the fabricated 'statistics' and bad math she and her United Organization of Horsemeat use as propaganda to further their pro-slaughter interests.
Use your ability to reason, and do your own research; horse-slaughter is not about being *humane* and is not an acceptable alternative to euthanasia. It simply rewards irresponsible breeders and owners and puts dollars in the pockets of government and foreign companies.
As Sue put so eloquently:
"Rep. Wallis is a Vice Chair of the Agriculture and Energy Standing Committee at NCSL. “We have received an absolute flood of support from literally every crook and cranny of this nation, and from all
walks of life,” said Wallis
Well said, Sue. I just *bet* you've got the support of every *crook*....lol!!!

My name is Archie McMichen, and i fully support united orginization of the horse. It is of my opinion that equine slaughter puts a floor under the horse market, and provides a public service of dissposing unwanted horses.Any legeslation that pervents horse owners to seek this outlet to sell their horses is unconstitutional horse are private property and should be marketed in the manner the owner sees best. This comment has been reported to the site manager. Hello my name is Nick McMichen, im all for horse slaughter its a way to manage the population of the bad and crippled horses. If deer hunters didnt kill deer imagine how many there would be, the same applies to slaughter horses. The government also needs to look at all the horsemen and women who are suffering in this country do to the shut down of proccessing plants in America. This comment has been reported to the site manager. hello my name is james mcdaniel .i have ben in the horse business all of my life as my father and grandfather before me .we as horse owners must have a outlet for unwanted horses. every day that processing is held up is a day that horses suffer .this is a morel and economic issue.we must not let people that have no experience in this field dictate what we as responsible owners do with are horses . i fully support what the united organization of the horse is doingThis comment has been reported to the site manager. I am a rancher in Eastern Oregon and depend on our horses as tools for the ranch. It is a shame that we cannot sell them when they get old or we get a bad horse. Europe eats horse meat and is a good source of protein. Why can't we send them over seas.I do not agree with people turning them loose on public range. First of all they are tame horses they do not know where water is and they do not know how to forage as wild animals do. It is more cruel to turn them loose on public range than it is to either sell them for a purpose or humanly put them down. I think there should be a market for horses.

I am a horse lover and owner, adopting a horse is not the same as adopting a dog or cat. Horses are large livestock, if not properly trained and handled they can be dangerous and they are extremely expensive if cared for properly. If owners are no longer to financially care for their horses they can not afford to euthanize and dispose of them. In this economically challenged world no one is buying unwanted horses. Slaughter provides a place for these horses to go. It saddens me but sometimes it is the only option left to many horse owners. This comment has been reported to the site manager. horses are livestock and are beasts of burden and have been used as such for centuries. as such, it should be up to the owner if they are sold for slaughter not the u.s. government. the government already runs our lives enough as it is.This comment has been reported to the site manager. A friend of mine has a residence in Pheonix, Az. One of her wealthy neighbors has approximately 45 head of rescue horses looked after by a paid employee. On a visit to the place, my friend found that most of the horses should have been humanely euthenized. Since slaughter is outlawed, these poor horses are doomed to suffer at the bequest of a so called do-gooder!This comment has been reported to the site manager.
