Please Help The Sudanese People

| As you are aware, the situation in Sudan is still one of degrading conditions and resistant compliance, if not outright disregard, for the peace treaty of 2006. While hundreds of thousands of persons have been murdered in the name of ethnic cleansing (most groups believe that number will be revised to a much higher number when facts can be ascertained), and, millions of persons forced out of their homes and towns to wander aimlessly or to relocate in refugee camps, there are some areas within the country where the Sudanese government sets forth examples as to how they are abiding by the peace treaty of 2006 in that they are emptying the camps and allowing people to relocate to their home regions. This is not the full truth. Here are reported facts and incidences by NGO and U.N. experts of the current situation: * June 20 to November 2007 at 15 land and air attacks were made on civilian centers * Reuters reports at least 300 killed in nearly 20 land and air attacks * In October, 2007, the U.N. reported an attack on a South Darfur town killing at least 30 persons and the torching of up to 100 houses * December 5, 2007, the British government calls for more direct action in Darfur by the international community * Chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is urging the arrest of Ahmad Haroun and another for crimes against humanity. Ahmad was placed in a position of overseeing aid to the camps by the Sudan government, the very camps of which he is accused for acts of abuse * Accurate counts of death and other incidents cannot be reported accurately because of the restrictions of movement and insecurity in Darfur I, along with many others involved in the SudanCan campaign, respectfully urge you to take action in the following areas: a) hold our government accountable to be one of the nations who enforces the commitments to the U.N.-AU mission of military and international police deployment to this region, and; b) demand the Sudan government bring those accused of crimes against humanity to trial, and; c) increase support to NGO's for aid and assistance to these degraded citizens of the Sudan, and; d) increase trade sanctions and restrictions against this government until satisfactory progress is made to comply with the structure and intent of the 2006 treaty. Thank you for your attention to this matter of grave concern in regards to our world and our interests. | |

Only 1153 people have signed this? Please, tell your friends. You have access to a computer right now-- chances are that many of your friends do too. And chances are that they, like so many of us in the privileged land of the US, don't have to worry about whether they'll be able to eat tomorrow-- whether they'll be alive to be hungry tomorrow.
I know how disappointing it is when people don't care-- but they don't have even the opportunity to care if they don't know.
Please, just tell someone.
