This is just an unfair way to tax under-represented citizens. These lazy politicians should do a better job of defining what qualifies as loose cigarette tobacco, and what qualifies as real pipe tobacco and tax them accordingly instead of screwing everybody.

A government which lays taxes on the people not required by urgent public necessity and sound public policy is not a protector of liberty, but an instrument of tyranny. -Calvin Coolidge
Excessive taxation will carry reason and reflection to every man's door, and particularly in the hour of election. -Thomas Jefferson 1798

Why are you raising taxes and diminishing the sales of one of this country's largest revenue generating cash crops? Has history taught you nothing about how taxes work? Raise taxes, destroy the country, lower taxes-->more sales-->more production of goods and services-->better economy-->less of government control-->the original free world people use to flock here to prosper...get the picture?

To tax pipe tobacco 775% is un-American and exploits those who enjoy fine tobacco that can trace its roots to the foundation of this great country. It is a feeble and a last-ditch way to gain revenue and should be voted against.

why dont they tax the booze 775% i will tell you why, because almost all congresspersons enjoy a good drink,i am a ryo smoker,i can smoke a whole pack and still drive and not harm anyone but drink a bottle of booze and drive and see what happens, tax the hell out of the booze, but i guess if you did that then most if not all congresspersons would have to pay a hefty tax to have their drinks every day huh? stop putting people out of work and making the ones that do have jobs have to empty their pockets to buy tabacco to relieve the stress that our congresspersons put on us

Pipe tobacco is a wonderful thing. I wonder how many Congresspersons smoke? I know I've seen President Obama with a cigarette. Does that make him a bad person who should be taxed to death?

Please find another way to tax us to death. Smoking choice tobaccos from my pipe collection is a way I deal with the stress brought on by idiot Congresspersons who love to ruin everyone else's lives. Trust me... you want me to smoke.

to tax tobacco and not other "luxuries" like alcohol is a violation of our right of choice if we choose to smoke we should not be targeted to get this country out of debt because of century of politicians making financial mistakes and bailouts, the common public should not be held responsible for governmental choices for "helping" companies stay in businesses. its their fault they were going into bankruptcy not ours so don't turn to the smokers for your payback

it is unfair to place heavy taxes on a group of people just because they are an unpopular group or underrepresented.
this harkens back to the type of unfair taxation that precipitated the american war for independence in the first place.

It really doesn't matter what you tax; if there is a way of getting around it, that way will be found! The United States of America wouldn't be in a financial situation if our elected officials were more responsible with the peoples money!!! Remember November!!

This is absurd, America is about choice and liberty, not protection from myself and my personal choices that have nothing to do with others.
This tax won't raise GDP it'll lower it and put companies out of business!

Woah whats that you ask that just went by us like a bullet? Freedom Americans... We lost it.
We need to really think about value and not power.
I'd much rather be a BROKE, FREE country
Then a over power Tax running country.
I think We the people of the AMERICA need to sit down and look over The laws VS the constitution.
