Dog lovers that own a Pit Bull know how loving and sweet these dogs are and it's a shame that there is discrimination with this breed. Would you discriminate by the color of someone's skin? If not, why is it happening to Pit Bulls? The awful people that fight these dogs do it because they are strong but how does that make the dog killers? The people that fight these beautiful dogs are the killers and they need to be punished, not the dogs!

People report to the media that the breed was a pit bull when in fact it was mistaken as a pit bull. My son found a web site with 26 different photo's of dogs. It asked you to pick the pit bull. I own a pit bull and I couldn't pick it out on my first try. The media reports that pit bulls have the highest attack rate, however no data is collected to keep track of what type of dogs attack. How is it possible to report the above statement with no data to back that statement up? Have you ever watch animal cops? The pit bulls they rescue don't ever need to be muzzled, why because pit bulls love people! Even with this fact they are needlessly put down. Dogs that are aggressive are not socialized and/or abused by their owners. This can happen with any breed not just pit bulls. Punish the owner for that not the breed.

The ATTS Temperament Test focuses on and measures different aspects of temperament such as stability, shyness, aggressiveness and friendliness as well as a dogs instinct for protectiveness towards it's handler and/or self-preservation in the face of threat.
The Pit Bull ranks higher (better) than many dogs with a 85%. Here are just a FEW of the dogs that Pits score higher than: Bichon Frise, Border Collie, Collie, Cavalier King Charles, Chihuahua, Shar Pei, Dachshund, Dalmation, Dobermanm, Dandie Dinmont, German Shepherd, Schnauzer, Great Dane, Jack Russel Terrier, Lhasa Apso, Miniature Poodle, Pomeranian, Old English Sheepdog, Shih Tzu, Samoyed, Yorkshire Terrier, and many many more!
Pit Bulls are a breed typically banned. A closer examination of temperament needs to be studied before making rash judgment against one breed.
Think of the resiliency of the breed. After Michael Vicks insane treatment almost ALL of these dogs were placed in loving families. How many other breeds could survive and have a good outlook on life?
The Michael Vicks of the world need harsher penalties also.

Some of the best family dogs I have ever met are pit bulls. Some of the worst have been little toy breeds that you would never dream of banning. Please, look at the individual dog, its personality, upbringing, and training - not just the breed with which it is labeled.

Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and Dobermans are 3 of my FAVORITE breeds. They are absolutely gorgeous and loyal. Yet, I cannot own these breeds in certain locations because of the heartless, incompetent dog owners who cannot love nor train these animals to fulfill their role as loving and loyal companions. In fact, I currently own a mutt who most likely has rottweiler and chow chow in him, 2 breeds that tend to be banned. Despite this, he is VERY loving and very sweet. Yes he is protective and has a big bark, yet, he runs and hides behind his family if somebody approaches him. In fact, he has continuously allowed a 21 mo. old to TAKE toys from him - a behavior that many would claim would cause aggression. He is not "special" nor "different" as many would view him, he is simply the norm. I challenge people to get to know a well trained and loved dog which falls within the category of a "bully breed." I bet you'll find out that those who have been raised correctly are not at all like they have been portrayed.

Like people, animals are individuals and cannot be lumped together by breed which may or may NOT define their personality traits. These things must be done on a dog-by dog (or owener -by-owner) basis. Nothing else is fair to the thousands of calm pitties, or the hundreds of idiot owners who have no clue.

I love and respect pit bulls. Responsible ownership should be promoted instead of our government teach our children that murdering innocent animals is the answer. Our government should be spending money on enforcing laws against dog fighting.

I own an American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier and if I ever had to get rid of him because of a stupid law, I would be heartbroken. He is the most well behaved and loving dog I have ever seen. It's extremely sad that people have to discriminate against pit bulls just because of some bad things that have happened. There are plenty of other dogs out there from different breeds that have attacked people, yet you don't see them getting banned. Usually people that get attacked are ones who provoke it. Of course, if you run from any dog they are going to chase you. They think you're playing, that's what dogs do. Not all pit bulls are vicious and I really wish people would see that!!

There needs to be much harsher penalties for animal abuse/neglect. This ban hurts the responsible pet owner by infringing on their rights to travel/live/work in different states/areas. The people who create aggressive/violent animals will not adhere to any sort of bans or laws. Those are the people who need punished...harshly...not the poor innocent animals and the responsible owners who love them.

Breed specific bans do nothing to actually improve public safety but rather infringe directly on the rights and responsibilities of pet owners everywhere. I have a PhD in animal behavior (so I might know something about it) and have owned dogs all my life. As with responsible dog owners the world over, my pit crosses have been among the least aggressive dogs I have ever met. Harsher penalties for neglect and abuse on the part of owners and specifically for dog fighting are far more effective tools for preventing dog aggression. In a time when we as a nation have limited resources and a deep distrust of government intervention in our lives, how can it possibly make sense to spend money on actions that aren't solutions (BSB) that additionally infringe directly on the rights of individuals to private family lives that include pets?

Please give yourselves experiance with the breed. Get to know responsible dog owners who have pit bulls in their family. Consider alternatives to banning the breed, such as special licensing to own the breed. There are countless examples of how noble and truly loving pit bulls are. No animal deserves death just because of its breed. Owners of the dogs who have disfunctional/violent behavior should be held responsible, just like parents who have delinquent children are held responsible. Too many families have broken hearts because of this issue. We are all victims of irresponsible dog ownership. Families who have their innocent canine members taken from them and murdered only because of their name, and the horrible and preventable attacks that result from absuive, neglectful owners. Any dog will behave violently when treated violently, irregardless of breed. Thank you for your sincere efforts in reaching a solution!

If you ban one breed, another just takes its place in the eyes of criminals and others with bad intentions. Why punish good dogs and good dog owners. Bans are wastes of taxpayer money and destroy people's best friends.

You cannot legislate every unfortunate incident. All accidents, crimes and so on, should be judged case by case, not by the use of blanket legislation founded from paranoia. Cars cause way more accidents. Why not ban THEM?
