Federal legislation accompanied by a lack of governmental oversight and regulation created this housing and financial bubble...and unregulated Wall Street greed has intensified the resulting credit crises. As a small investor, I and millions of others have already paid our pounds of flesh. Stop this nonsense of H.R. 1068 in its tracks!

The problem is obvious in this "deep recession"-- we need more jobs. This move will create more unemployed who make their living, grow their retirement funds AND TRY TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR INCOME by trading. There are millions of people who daytrade, position trade and/or invest for a living by trading.I do it as my retirement job to make ends meet. This will put them out of business. I am not even counting the brokerage community that also would be greatly affected. Please don't even think about it. BAD BAD IDEA

I am almost 70 years old and traded stocks for the first time this last year. It was a small amount and I payed for both ends of the transaction. I expect I will pay again on the small profit. I am not a Wall Street Trader and do not need to be penalised further as I will have already paid my fair share.

Don't tax us, the average American citizen, for the gross negligence of Wall Street and financial company leaders. The penalties to mutual fund holders are significant but incalculable. Also costs to small trades become enormous. I would have to cash in my significant holdings and find another way to fund my retirement.

Politics is like the game Whack-a-Mole, where bad and even idiotic ideas pop up like popcorn in a microwave and must be hammered into submission just as quickly. This one is typical of the 'idiotic' variety and the sooner it is squashed out of existence along with its perpetrator voted out of office, the better. Imagine, asking taxpayers to pay again for something they already paid for!! Insane!

This is simply patently unfair taxation! Many of us who have lost so much in the recent economic downturn are doing what we can to rebuild our investment portfolios. Sometimes it means taking small profits on stocks. In these cases, I pay capital gains on my profits. But to ask me to then pay a transaction tax on top of that? Absurd government thinking! Where will it stop? Will you next want to tax my bank deposits? What about my ATM withdrawals? Stop the madness NOW!!!
