I am a 75 yr old retiree who lost over 30% of my portfolio's vale during this bear market. I've gained some of that back, but with a bill like HR1068, these gains will vanish and I'll be back to "square one". If this bill passes, the market will take a huge nosedive and any hope of an economic recovery will be squelched. I'd call this act an act of suicide not only for America but certainly for the Democrats.

This tax would not be paid by Wall Street, it would be paid by every individual who buys or sells a share of stock. The brokers will pass it along to their clients, every mutual fund and ETF will have no choice but to rachet up it's expenses to the individual to cover this "new" expense of operation. Many retirees manage their own retirement portfolios these days, since most people not in government have 401K type plans which they usually roll to an IRA upon retirement. Every time they/(we)buy or sell a stock, mutual fund, or ETF share which now costs them $8-$10 they will remember who is costing them their retirement.

Peter DeFazio should be tarred and feathered for being an incompetent ass. It's obvious he was not elected for his intelligence. The tax should be imposed on the banks, wall street firms mortgage lenders etc. who thru their greed caused the financial crises. Peter you have won the grand prize of "Stupidity 101"

Stop stealing money you have not earned from productive people who have already overpaid taxed monies they are now risking in the market. You as a government do not even belong in any market for any reason other than to enforce simple laws of compliance.

The name of this bill is a total misnomer as it wouldn't result in Wall Street paying for the Wall Street bailout, but rather it would have the individual investors pay for the blunders of the financial sector. It should be voted down

I have an idea. Instead of adding more tax liability on the innocent American public to pay for the blunders of Wall Street and congress, why don't you stop spending money you don't have. If I ran my business like the congress and this administration is running the government, I would be out of business in a heart beat.

Know matter how you slice itit is just another way to shift the cost to the public that have already paid their dues and were not the cause of the problem in the first place. You want people to spend you want people to save and yet you take dollar after dollar out of the pocket book. I'm retired and I've only got so much to give and I am bleeding already. How about giving some of your blood!
