Obviously Mr. DeFazio has no understanding of average people like myself who are trying to make a few extra bucks by trading - the stock market presents enormous opportunity for anyone if they are willing to put a little time in and find an aspect of trading from which they can profit.

I saw an interview with the U.S. Congressman Peter DeFazio, who said a similar tax was added long ago in our similar crisis. However the cost of a trade long ago was much higher, like $150 for a few hundred shares, while today that same trade can be as litle as $1 to $7 for a few hundred shares. What that means is a tax of $12 or so is a huge percentage of comissions currently compared to what it was previously, many years ago. Obviously tax related to the comissions would make more sense altough the tax in general seems illogical.

Stop trying to take every penny you can from hard working people. And what is the point of passing a freakin law that allows those companies to pass that fee down to the people again. Who the hell are you politicians kidding. By the way, the American people can see that these forms of laws are just more ways to tax us illegally. You steal from us every way you can, and this is just another one of your conniving tactics .

Look at the comments following the article by Silla Brush published on November 24, 2009, in The Hill. They provide numerous reasons why a transaction tax would be an economic disaster. The Democrats are in serious trouble with 65% of the public. If this tax is instituted, it will be one more reason for many middle-class voters to throw any and every Democrat out of Congress.

This sounds like the real goal is to transfer more power and money back to financial institutions. What a disaster that would be. Fewer independent traders, more money flowing to the financial institutions. I wouldn't doubt if this "plan" was recommended by the financial institutions themselves.

I'm an independent trader making a modest living. A tax on the transaction would kill any possible profit. This tax would kill all independent traders, decrease trading volume, and increase stock volatility. I would prefer increased the tax rate than any transaction tax. Why tax me twice? Why tax me when I have losses? I would go broke with this tax.

Another way to hurt the little guy? This is a double tax. You tax profits and now you want to tax the trade, profit or loss? Awful idea.
Also, why further hurt investors because of banks mistakes and greed? Once was enough. We don't want to pay AGAIN for their poor judgment.

Hi, I live in Akron OH. I have been trading for a little over 2 years now and see this as a way to supplement my income from my job. I graduated college with a BA and still am unable to find a job that pays a REAL LIVING wage. You CAN NOT live on 10.25 an hr and raise a family, pay a mortgage, pay bills etc. This needs serious re-thinking. A lot of people who have no job because they are laid off or can not find work have turned to this as well.

First you allow the scum on wall street to cut my 401K in half and then you tax me to pay for their greed. Get the money directly from the source not the people who use their products.
