Why wreck a system that works? Government caused the crash in the first place, now they want to do more damage.

Come on, anybody who wants to retire comfortably is going to have more than $100,000.00 in their account(s) to trade with or they just as much consider staying in the workforce because this administration is going to do whatever it takes to steal our money in a fashion so that none of us can ever retire. And if nobody retires I guess unemployment stays high because you have no retirement turnover for the unemployed to move into the retiree's positions.

My husband and I run a small business with 8 employees. We have a profit sharing plan and our trades, though not all that active, would fall under your tax. Selling just two of our stock positions a year would exceed the $100,000. It is unfair to exempt public employee retirement plans and yet tax the small business plans. I'm sick and tired of small business getting whacked because we do business, hire employees, make a profit, provide retirement benefits and health benefits....the responsible thing to do. And we get taxed for being good public citizens.

To the leadership of our country; this proposed tax is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard of. The unintended consequences of this should it pass could be extremely detrimental to our financial system. The solution to last year's crisis is not to create new laws and taxes to penalize Wall St. What should have is a simple emphasis to enforce existing laws and be proactive in nature, not reactionary. Looking for someone to blame is useless. Move forward rather then looking for people to punish.

You have got to be kidding?!! We are attemting the greatest socialist redistribution of wealth experiment in history. The founders of our country would be are rolling over in their graves. All of the Congress and all of the House should be voted out of office. A bigger bunch of ignorant clowns I have never seen in my life.

This would only put small traders out of business. No doubt, some of the brokerages would have to close offices and lay off employees.

As a property holder in the great state of Oregon, a financial consultant by trade for 27 years and a US taxpayer, I wholehartedly oppose this legislation.
Every action has a reaction and actions have consequences.
A tax on transactions will simply increase the cost of doing business and be passed along to the 'little guy" or 'middle class' (if you wish) via higher fees.
Most investors utilize mutual fnds, portfolio managers etc. These are the folks that will be paying the fees. They will simply pass them along.
After looking at all the taxes on my electric bill, heating bill, cellphone bill, cable bill, local phone bill, gasoline bill, have you people in Congress have no conscience?? Is this the best you can do?? Another TAX??
For all your failures to regulate...for all your failures to stop waste and fraud in government spending...for all your astonishing spending just to get elected....for all your stupid regulations that inhibit business and/or encourage the wrong type of business, you should man or woman UP and TAX yourselves.
Maybe folks will wise up like Ensco and Transoceanic (RIG) and leave the United TAX ASTATES of America and take up official residence overseas....

Hard enough for the small investor to make money in the stock market then you decide to take the investor even more, ridiculous...banks take it to me every day with fee's and credit card fee's and you still want to help them more..stop making money for the banks and start protecting the small investor.

Please think this through and don't just assume "wall st fat cats" are the ones that will have to pay. What you may gain in taxes from the institutional side, you will likely take away from the smaller investor. It will hurt main st much more than it will hurt wall st.

It's going to drive more jobs outside the country...i wish you would think of the after effect instead of how to raise taxes. I'm afraid we will see more creative tax increases to get us out of the spending hole you put us in. These taxes will eventually get put back to the people you already threw under the bus!

This is a ludicrous idea.
It will foster illiqiudity.
Itwill impede with individual investments and therefore slow tour much neede capital formation.
We have already seen a decrease in capital formation by not being able to use this as a source of funds for mortgages and auto loans.

Personally I would like everyone who is running in Congress to LOSE in 2010! You have taken the lobbyists funds for YOUR re-election...damn the average American's interests. Four financial crises since 1998. Shame on you!! Where were the banking and financial regulators? How many have lots their jobs? Why was Glass-Segall over turned? Bah! Humbug! Now you want to confiscate trading dollars! You want to literally determine pay scales. Let me give you all $0. and take away your pension AND medical benefits too!! (The average American doesn't even dream of those benefits!) TERM LIMITS...YES!!!!!!
