Isn't this just one more example of taxing the middle class. My 401K was not supposed to be taxed until it is withdrawn. One more example of taxing the little guy. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Does Congressman DeFazio believe that we normal citizens ONLY buy stocks that turn out to be WINNING positions? After losing 1/2 of the value of my meager IRA last year, this brilliant idea would have picked my pocket by more than $1500 more as I struggled to work my way back at least part way. Not just no, but HELL NO!This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

The trader tax makes no sense and by reducing trading activity and thus lowering the profits of the brokerage industry would probably be revenue neutral to the government at best while destroying jobs and reducing the valuation of many securities by reducing their liquidity. If you want to punish Wall Street, why not increase the corporate tax rate on the banking industry and create a slush fund to protect against future meltdowns? This comment has been reported to the site manager. I work as a tutor and supplement my income by occasionally trading. This tax would have decreased my profits over the last year by over 50%. If this bill is passed I will stop trading, the government will see a net tax decrease from loss of capital gains, and my retirement will be jeopardized. This comment has been reported to the site manager. There are millions of active American stock traders who will be incented to take their money elsewhere by this legislation. The reduced volume on American stock exchanges will increase pricing volatility, which is the exact opposite consequence of what you say you wish to prevent. What is your real agenda? To send more money to Goldman Sachs? This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

This proposal is misguided at best. It would hurt the entire financial community instead of the few (2%) that caused all of the damage. Please oppose this bill, it stands to dramatically hurt the smaller, retail traders, damage the potential for an economic recovery, and disencentivize investment in America. If Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs pays extra fees that's one thing. But retail traders like me would be devastated by a "trader tax." Please consider this humble request for your support, and thank you for your time. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

This bill is a knee-jerk reaction without a lot of thought and seems mostly political to me. If passed, this bill would not only harm the average American who relies on stocks for his retirement, but also large businesses who need the volume of stock trading in order to raise cash. No one would be helped by this. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I am very strongly opposed to this tax.It is RIDiCULOUS to tax anyone and everyone
who trades in order to make "Wall Street" pay for this mess... if this tax is approved, the little guy and gal will once again bear the burden and be unfairly taxed. How about going after Enron and the likes instead? How about taxing and fining the people who actually caused this and other messes?
How about taxing Congress for being idiots and lets also take away their health care permanently. I think this is a much better idea !!

This tax will not only hurt traders, it will dry up liquidity on all financial markets, causing MORE unemployment. Why tax the traders? They aren't the ones that caused the housing mess. After a week of this tax, most will go out of business, more unemployment, THEN after they leave, there will be no tax revenues when the traders stop trading. So you cause unemployment, AND won't collect tax anyways as traders leave. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Enough is enough- small business growth is Americas growth- when will they learn that by reducing taxes will actually INCREASE revenues by encouraging business hiring and expansion- how can we compete with other countries when our corporations are taxed at 35%+ and foreign business taxed at 12-15%- when will our so-called leaders understand this? This comment has been reported to the site manager. Tax, tax, tax, tax.... when will it EVER END? As you are aware, everyone should have a "budget" - we do - EXCEPT FOR CONGRESS!! I will be HAPPY WHEN I DIE, as I can get away from this illogical thinking of spend, spend, spend, spend, spend, spend, .... just to get re-elected. WHAT A DISGRACE our country has fallen into. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

We are traders in securities. We would most likely be put out of business by this tax. Who would THAT help? This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

A trader tax is unethical, unconstitutional and puts an unfair burden on the trading public. As it stands we pay regular income tax on any profits we make. Isn't this enough? We didn't cause this mess and we shouldn't pay for it.
Trading puts liquidity into the market. A very high % of traders are small potatoes yet do a high volume of trades. On a 50K account traded several hundreds times throughout the year, this transaction tax would wipe out all the equity!! What is fair about that?
People will stop trading and tax revenue will suffer while giving an unfair advantage to the likes of GS. We already bailed them out once now we have to do it again?

This transaction tax will only serve to increase investment costs and decrease returns. I am sure that the volume of transactions would decrease significantly and that tax revenues collected from Schedule D transactions would also decrease. This tax could result in an overall reduction of taxes into the Treasury. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!
