I was laid off in January and am trading on my own until work can be found. This tax would eliminate my only source of income, income that I derive from risking my own capital. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

the tax would put a lot of small traders out of business but apparently these taxing geniuses believe that 'speculation' is a terrible thing that should be discouraged. It isn't just active traders that would be impacted either but they don't seem to get that. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. This proposal is outrageous and will no doubt hurt many more than it would ever help. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

HR 1068 would destroy the online trading business. 1 tenth of one percent may sound harmless to the average person, however this would equal 100.00 for every 100k of the principal amount of the trade. Example - if a trader buys 1000 GOOG at 460.00, they would be charged a 460.00 trading tax on that transaction. Considering an online trading commission would be $7 - $10, this would increase the transactional cost substantially. Please do not allow this to happen as this would destroy the online trading business. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

When 80% of the daily volume in the markets are due to institutions and traders, you will kill the spreads and volume in the market. Long run it will make investing dollars leave the country. Congress is saying one thing in public about this bill but the reality is that small investor/traders will pay the bulk of this tax and NOT Goldman Sachs. I wouldn't be surprised if Wall Street helped write this bill as it protects them and leaves the small trader to pay it.This comment has been reported to the site manager. As a small independent trader, I am part of the large ocean of small retail traders providing market liquidity. The current proposal would effectively shrink the pool of market participants. This smaller pool would make markets even more succeptible to manipulation. I strongly urge that the trader tax be turned down. It is punishing the business of small retail traders, an important small business sector in this economy where brick and mortar jobs are shrinking. This comment has been reported to the site manager. The only thing that saved my retirement account in 2008 was hedging it with options. This bill basically takes that right away since options are short term tools and need to be bought and sold much more often than stocks. These tools were not widely used and around the last time this tax was enacted. If this bill is passed, futures and option contracts become much less feasible to use. In today's world this bill does way more harm than good. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

If passed, this tax will put me out of business. I will lose my home, my children's college, and be forced into bankruptcy as I do have debt. Unable to afford health insurance and having no other particular skill for new employment, I will become a public liability. I will owe/pay no taxes. The $35,000 + per year I pay in trading-related expenses will disappear from our economy. Bottom line, not only will it not make our country any money, it will COST it money. Please do not allow this to happen. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!
