This will hurt more regular people like me trying to make a buck to live after my 401 retirement has lost 68% of the value. More and more regular folks like myself with little funds are trying to survive by trading.

PLEASE RECONSIDER AND DO NOT PASS THIS BILL.
I AM RETIRED. I REALLY WORKED HARD TO SAVE MONEY FOR MY RETIREMENT AND NOW IT IS 1/2 OF WHAT IT WAS WHEN I RETIRED. THE WAY I TRY TO MAKE IT UP IS BY TRADING!

This simpleton does not realize that we "daytrading churners" are the one providing liquidity. You want to know what happens when liquidity goes away?? LESS price stability. What a moron.

This is insane. Has anyone thought about all the income tax that will be lost? Or the amount of Trading firms going under, and not to metion all the unemployed traders?

I am trying to trade for a living and thus be self employed. Such a tax as proposed would make that impossible for myself and I would assume most traders such as myself. As a result I would not be able to employ myself and would become of the those competing for jobs with the millions of others. How would that benefit the country?

If this bill is passed, anyone who transacts U.S. financial instruments will pay this tax--whether it is a professional providing liquidity to the marketplace, or a small long term investor. Because market makers and other liquidity providers make profits on high volume and extremely small spreads (the price difference between bids and offers), they will likely be forced out of the business, spreads will greatly widen, and liquidity will dry up. Without adequate liquidity (someone willing to take the other side of a trade), the markets could be severely crippled since it will become both costly and risky to initiate or offset a financial transaction in the open markets. Therefore, speculators, market makers, day traders, etc., all provide liquidity and are essential to the healthy functioning of the markets. Essentially, the entire nation will pay for the tax.

On a personal basis, I am a retiree with a small trading account to supplement my SS income. I trade actively and the passing of this bill would be DEVESTATING to me. I would have to stop my trading, which would result in lowering the amount of taxes I pay.
This bill is poorly thought out and should not receive any consideration whatsoever.

VOTE NO on H.R.1068. This tax will put a lot of people out of business. Joe Plumber investor should not have to pay for Wall Street bailout. This will significantly reduce liquidity in the markets and US tax payers do not need another dissincentive to save thier own money. To stay competitive in todays world markets, we need to keep costs down. Otherwise the investments will go to other countries stock markets.
PLEASE Do yourself the favor and your kids/grandkids VOTE NO to H.R. 1068.

Implementation of this would seem to punish the investor for the misdeeds and poor financial planning of the of the brokerage house.
We live in America - everyone is free to succeed or fail. If they fail there are consequences. Why should I pay here? This is just wrong.

This is another misguided attempt to saddle the wrong party (small traders) with the blame for Wall Street's meltdown. I make my living placing dozens of trades each day. If I screw up, I have only myself to blame. Why should my hard-won earnings pay to bail out the big banks and their obscenely paid decision makers?
