This is one of the most stupid ideas of all time. Do not pass this bill. This is just like the income tax on the rich. We were suckered once, never again. We always opposed bailing Wall street, it was your insane idea, so you take a pay cut from your government salary to pay for your own stupid idea. Put your own money on the line.

If I'm not mistaken; Investors are already taxed on long-term gains, and short-term gains are taxed even higher. Where is the logic in this proposal?? I'm 22 years old and just beginning to invest instead of earning low returns on savings accounts, and I can already see how much this could affect me over time and numorous trades. I don't suppose this extra tax would ever be distributed back to me later like Congress tells me my OASDI payroll taxes will, haha. And as fate will have it, obviously this proposed bill won't be separately voted on; it will just be tacked into some completely irrelevant larger bill. Please vote no on this, I pay enough taxes already.

Hi Peter,
This is crazy don't do it ! Why not pass a bill that allows people access to there IRA & 401K money tax free? The would put cash back into system, save houses etc.I think this would be a much better short term solution.
Thanks,
Mark Provost

I am opposed to this tax. This tax will hurt the small trader more than anyone else. It will also drain liquidity from the markets.

This proposed tax will hurt people like me who just want to save money for retirement. Don't tax traders like me, I have done nothing wrong! If this goes into effect I will stop trading stocks. This tax must not pass.

Furthermore, this bill will drive foreign investors away from US capital markets, draining liquidity at a time we need it most.
Instead, I urge you to enstate a one time wealth tax to pay for the financial crisis. as Rep. Sanders has proposed. it whould be a progressive tax starting at a small amount for wealth of one million, and increased to a maximum for those with over 200 million in assets. This would recoup some of the wrongful gains of those who peddled the poison derivatives and brokered the phony mortgages that got us in this mess - and punish the CEOs who have awarded themselves obscene benefits and dilutive stock options while shareholders were shortchanged.

I am not a trader, and even quite shy about investing my small savings, but this bill is very wrong for America on so many levels! It was stupid, thoughtless legislation that forced mortgage lenders to give money to unqualified people that got us into this mess. A truly free market is what this country had been founded upon. This bill will be another nail in our Republic's coffin. Please stop it.

The government is systematiclly ruining our free market system and was the primary reason for the financial medtdown due to legislation that wanted to put everyone in a home. You would think they would have learned by now or maybe it is deliberate. Anyone with any kind of business savy could see GM failing and now they are asking for more money with very dubious predictions about their future. The government needs to get out of the free market and this tax would just finish killing an already damaged free market and stock market system.

This congressman wants to pass a bill to penalize "wall street". Maybe he should consider the mess our economy and financial markets are in is due in large part to our own government not enforcing their own rules. I understand banks played a role in this as well as credit rating agencies (that are paid by the very same people they are rating) real estate speculators etc. This list is long.
How will a tax on traders, small businesses, investors, farmers and many others help pay back the looted trillions? It won't. Liquidity will dry up. Who is going to take the opposite side of trades when the sellers are hitting the bids? If anyone is concerned about "volatility" in the market right now, remove the liquidity and see what you get.
If the bill is passed, what is next? I can tell you ... federal and state governments know their revenue is shrinking ... they are looking at anything that generates high transaction numbers. One is financial transactions. Another that comes to mind is gasoline. Yes, expect each of your gallons to be taxed. This is not rocket science what is starting to happen in this country.
The passing of this bill might be the start of the end. It is time that congress starts hearings about their own looting. Where are the hearings for the bank executives that destroyed iconic institutions? How about all the people who bought naked CDS's...will they be required to give back their winnings?
This congressman and anyone voting for the bill WILL be held responsible if the bill gets passed and our financial system is destroyed.
