Use your head. We already have most of Michigan bankrupting now!
And PLEASE try kneeling before God every morning asking Him to help you make the right decisions for our state! Everyone keeps asking why God will not do anything. Why should He when our government keeps taking God out of everything!! Like any relationship, you only get what you put into it.
So please! Ask God back in Michigan!!

This is absolutely obsurd! You let these items be sold imported and/or sold already in this country once...if you are so concerned about this testing being done do your jobs the first time! This will only negatively effect our hard working families and small businesses and help large corporate monopolies like Walmart who DO NOT offer and equivalent solution to are blue collar families!!! Please stop this nonsense!! Our citizens need options like this available to them!!

Im the first to petition from the state of Illinois, where unfortunately the great mind behind this new law resides and represent as Congressman. That individual is Congressman Bobby Rush. I am a mother of two young children and appalled at this law that threatens resale shops and the like that have provided a "joyable financial cushion" for both parents and children. I shop at resale stores, thrift stores and goodwill stores not only because I save a considerable amount of money but the joys of finding rare items such as out of print children books, I appreciate.
We trust our lawmakers to make wise decisions on the behalf of consumers. However, I believe they should carefully research and consider how such laws can adversely affect consumers. Especially voting consumers and those who pay taxes. To allow Chinese products contaminated with lead be the catalyst that could destroy the financially stability of low-income families and even middle-income families would be disasterous to a nation scrabbling to make ends meet and trying to withstand the bolstering winds of a miserable economy.
People who shop at resale or thrift stores will not resort to shopping at Wal-Mart or Target. The savings is to significant and can not be duplicated at these mega-so-called discount stores. Besides I personally take pride at buying from resale shops.

We need resale shops and consider it an essential for a free-market economy. Families (as well as small businesses)will suffer immensely if you curtail the free exchange of goods. Please consider the broad, destructive consequences of this poorly-conceived legislation and CHANGE IT immediately for the sake of economic health and recovery. We the people are counting on you for common sense exercised for the common good!

Recycle, reuse! Am I supposed to put my granddaughter's clothes, worn by only her, into a land fill?? As for cost, even I, in a professional job, cannot afford to buy her clothes every time she grows, which is 'often'.

As a store manager, I am most concerned about the possible litigation of people working the obvious flaws in the CPSIA. The courts will be clogged with an unimaginable array of frivolous lawsuits because someone bought a recalled item for 99 cents- even if no harm is done to someone, I guarantee that some lawyer somwhere will begin the CPSIA lawsuit train- that is what will close our doors.
As thrift stores, we need to use business commen sense in order to protect our customers as much a possible- we encourage all our customers to check all used items from any store against the CPSC recall data base, and even offer a full refund if the custoemr discovers a recalled item makes it to the floor (we cannot possibly check each donated item agaist the thousands on the recall site, but an individual who buys 10 or 15 items can easily do this). But the bottom line is we are still liable, even though we have used reasonable effort to follow the law.
All in all, I am really not to concerned about the CPSC "Lead Police" storming a little thrift store using commen sense- I am concerned about people using the CPSIA as a way to make "easy" money in a lawsuit.

People need these types of stores around plus they've been around for many, many years! So why get rid of them now.The economy isn't that great right now, thousands of people have already lost their jobs, and not everyone can afford to buy brand new things. There are lots of people including myself that rely on these shops and if they go out of business i don't know what we would do.Almost all the stuff my family owns are from these shops,i dont understand why they would do this to people like we're not struggling enough!

This simply does not make sense especially in this economic climate! How does making things harder on already cash strapped citizens make economic sense?!

Members of Congress, I am joining this petition to stress the need for you and your colleagues to act swiftly and pass HR 1027. My wife and I own a small, community consignment shop. Our shop services hundreds of local families, employs 6 hard working community residents, and donates thousands of articles of clothing and accessories to local families in need. In this economy, businesses like ours are essential and mandating a testing requirement on a small operation like this is a death sentence. Not only would you put me out of business, I would lose tens of thousands of dollars. I would be financially ruined. Additionally, you would burden the people who work in my shop and everyone who rely on it for essential clothing for their children. We must be grandfathered to sell existing products that met the current safety standards, until the new testing and labeling processes are instituted on the manufacturer level. Everyone wants children to be safe, but the responsibility lies with the manufacturer, not mom and pop shops that deal in their products in the second-hand market. Please act immediately and get HR 1027 out of committee, onto the floor, and passed. The CPSIA must be amended and clarified.

I personally think that this is ridiculous.
I can understand making the manufacturer check for lead, but thrift, consignment, etc. There is no way possible for this to be done.

I appreciate what the CPSC is trying to accomplish, but the testing should be required at the manufacturing level. You can't make resellers the scape goat in all this. If you don't allow the items to be made and distributed, it solves the whole problem.

I also own a resale shop and service many customers and this will destroy my business and hurt many , many families and other small businesses. It's very ridiculous that it is even happening.

I think that I never would have been able to survive financially if I couls not use hand-me-downs for my children. I also craft blankets from material purchased, although I have never sold them(they are always gifts), what a disappointment to have to stop!
