When I pass along gently used items that my children needed and outgrew, it is because it was a safe and effective item for my child or children and I wish to give it to another child so that they might benefit from the item as well. The current law seems to be "protecting" a very small percentage of our population from a potentially harmful item at the expense of a very large percentage of the population. Although I understand that exposing a child to a product that contains lead can be harmful to that child, it is even more detrimental to the development and health of a child who is in dire need of clothing and toys to discontinue America's resale and goodwill industries! PLEASE remove this law from the books today!

I can only echo other sentiments. With the state of our economy right now, this law only makes it worse. The second hand stores in my area were wonderful and are now out of business completely - doors closed and shelves bare. This law doesn't seem to understand the value of slightly used clothing. Kids grow out of stuff so fast that is it nice to be able to find shoes or clothes for fancy occasions at such a reasonable price. Why pay top dollar when they will only wear it once or twice at most. My city's early childhood and elementary PTA's thrive because of "budget bins" where re-selling children's clothes comprised most of the profit. We have four elementary schools (K-4) and each school has at least 4 kindergarten classes with 25 kids each this year alone. You do the math. The prior two years have similar numbers as does the coming year. That adds up to lots of resale value. I think all of the parents understand the "risk" of buying used clothes. Can't we as the consumers make the choice rather than the government choosing for us? Stimulate the economy you say? By george we will if the law would reconsider the impacts.

This is so ridiculous if this is true! Half of childrens clothes havent been worn more than a couple times before they grow out of them and they usually are in great condition.

I think I'm living in Twilight Zone! This can't be true!!! If our government is truly interested in the welfare of the children, then where are the laws protecting them from poisons in food; i. e., preservatives, chemicals, dyes, high sugar content, etc.? Where is the outrage regarding genetically engineered food, contaminated water and air? 50,000 innocent people die each year from second hand cigarette smoke. Could some of them be children? How about the harmful side effects of pharmaceutical drugs? Then there are the cancers caused by microwaves and cell phones - - Why aren't the children being protected from these things? Not to mention poverty and hunger. With the fat cats stealing all the money, why do the children suffer when their parents are unable to find jobs in this depressed economy and no one is giving them huge amounts of money. I personally think that more education for our childrewn and less prisons might be a good thing. What about the dangers of nuclear power plants and bombs. Are these things not a threat to children. I have never heard of a case where a child died from wearing second hand clothes but I do know that children have died from the other above mentioned dangers. Does our government hate poor children so much that when they can't afford new clothes, they must wear rags and go bare footed or maybe state issued uniforms are the solution. Once again - - follow the money. The large retail manufactures and stores will not be effected - - but the small businesses and children will. Death by second hand clothes is not the problem but a government that does not respect our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is. Does anybody care? Have we all gone mad? Heaven help us!

In this economy it is absurd that we would stop re-selling our gentely used items. If we don't resell where will all this end up in a landfill?

Since I am now raising my grand-daughter and helping my daughter with expenses since having a baby with special needs, this restriction on resale has had a negative inpact on my ability to help. I have always relied on resale items, from toys, furniture to clothing to stretch my limited money. I believe that this restriction should be removed from resale shops.

This also affects our waste! If we do not reuse our gently-used children's items, we just add to the garbage that we create. We are doing our earth a service by recycling this stuff!

I don't see how banning the resale of used kids clothes will save our economy, when it's just a small market in a big industry. The people that buy these clothes need them, because they are not poor enough to receive government support or rich enough to buy new clothes 4 times a year for their growing child's needs.
