Buying used not only is a green option but also helps out families and child care providers that cannot afford to buy everything new. It would be a huge step backwards to take that away from society! This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Please consider this as an essential part of stimulating the nation's economy. With the current recession (possibly leading to depression), you've taken away parents' ability to purchase "like-new" items for children at the most reasonable price. Modifying this law should be a priority to maintain a most basic industry and support the American people! This comment has been reported to the site manager. Yet another example of an overly broad, vaguely worded response to a problem. The government needs to read and think about the consequences of proposed legislation before pasing it. We should be encouraging green businesses, even if it is as small and simple as reselling gently used children's clothing. Our government would prefer our landfills to be overflowing with clothing while parents struggle to keep their growing children clothed! This comment has been reported to the site manager. Coming from a family of 5 we can't afford new clothes as our children are growing. Passing this bill would make it almost impossible to stay afloat with current bills and the current economic situation the country is facing. This comment has been reported to the site manager. As a low middle class/income mother of 2 girls, I rely heavily on children's consigment shops for clothes. I can't afford sometimes to even go to Kmart or Walmart for clothes, good clothes. Children grow so fast, so it seems a lot ridiculous to purchase brand new clothing at hundreds of dollars when I can get three times the amount of clothes at a children's consigment shop. With the way this economy is going, a lot more people are relying on these shops as well. Why would you take that away from us? We're not all making a Senator's salary where the price of our clothes is no object. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I do not agree with this law. I am a stay at home mom that buys clothes from a thrift store that has very nice things that helps young teenagers that have become pregnant and become homeless. I resale them so I can stay home with my little girl and teach her the great values in life. This law hurts people that are trying to get their lives together and people that want to take good care of their children in their infant and toddler years. I resale these items at a flea market and I think it is awlful that the goverment wants to take away alot of great items and trash them. I have enjoyed staying home with my child and watching her grow and also seeing other people smile when I can sell them an item that is preowned and nice at a very inexpensive price. I had a good job as a Manager in a resturant but I decided that staying home with my child and doing this was best for her and making pretty things for someone that doesn't cost much like hairbows, lacey socks, dresses and now their wanting to make it difficult for the little man to survive???? Please look at the little man!!!This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I shouldn't be shocked but I am. It is hard to believe that the politicians are so far removed from what the people they represent are going thru. The positive far out way the negative here. There are so many people who can not afford new clothing or toys. And the impact of lost jobs in an already struggling economy is just mind blowing. Then the amount of trash that will be created from this is something else to consider. Is that what we want to pass down to our children? I am praying you will change your minds. Please reconsider! This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I do not agree with this law because it punishes the frugal and the poor as well as the children. My husband & I are disabled with our health declining each day. I sell used items to supplement our income so it would also hurt people like us. Isn't there a way an individual can test for lead content? This comment has been reported to the site manager. This is ridiculous. You know things are getting bad when the government is putting people out of work and making things harder on already money-tight citizens in the name of "protecting" us from a threat that hardly exists. It should be the manufacturer's job to check for product safety, not the customer's. (And just for the record, I grew up wearing hand-me-downs like every other middle to lower class citizen, and I'm perfectly fine, as are the vast majority of other people.)This comment has been reported to the site manager. So what's the point of going green if you want to fill the landfills with tons of toys, clothes, etc? I grew up on hand-me-downs myself. I never got sick, and the way word of mouth travels people know to throw out or return potentially harmful items. It is the manufacturers job to make sure this stuff is safe before it EVER makes it to the consumers hands, it is now OUR job to double check. I guess you people just want to make those who work in resale stores to no longer have a job. It's hard enough to find a job as it is!This comment has been reported to the site manager. I grew up on a lot of hand-me down clothing from family and friends. My children did too.Guess what we are all still living. You people in congress are so rich that you forget what it is like or don't give too hoots what it is like for the poor people. We need this thrift shops, flea markets and the like. This law is ridicoulous.Come live in our shoes a while and then make your choice. We elected you.If this is all the better you can do,then maybe we better put someone else in.Either was it's just another crooked politican. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It is my hope and prayer that this law is not for real...if it is, please stop this immediately. It will do more harm than good to many hard-working families around the U.S.This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Surely this is not real! This is the only way that I buy clothes for my kids. Please reconsider this. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!
