In our economic times right now, trading and selling second-hand items will be vital for many families in order to survive. How can we make such laws with devastating consequences to our nation's families? This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Is this being done to help the economy for manufacturers? If families can't buy used, how do you think many will survive? It could be more people on state aide. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

IF IT WEREN'T FOR YARDSALES, THRIFT STORES, THE SALVATION ARMY AND CONSIGNMENT STORES, MY KIDS WOULD HAVE HAD TO GO AROUND BUCK NAKED. MY HUSBAND RAN OUT ON ME WITH A TWO YEAR OLD AND PREGNANT WITH A SECOND CHILD. I ENED UP ON THE WELFARE SYSTEM. I COULDNT AFFORD TO BUY CLOTHES IN PLACES LIKE WALMART, KMART, AMES, AND OTHER DEPARTMENT STORES. KIDS GROW TOO DAMN FAST FOR PEOPLE IN THE POSITION I WAS IN TO BUY ALL BRAND NEW CLOTHES. JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE ALL RICH AND CAN AFFORD TO BUY DESIGNER CLOTHES DOESNT MEAN EVERY ONE CAN AFFORD SUCH LUXURY. I NOW HAD A GRANDSON AND MY DAUGHTER KEEPS HIM CLOTHED THROUGH THRIFT STORES, GARAGE SALES AND CONSIGNMENT SHOPS; SHE AND HER BOYFRIEND WORK FULL TIME AND STILL CANT AFFORD TO BUY THEIR CHILD BRAND NEW CLOTHES EVERY TWO TO THREE MONTHS. DONT YOU HAVE BIGGER AND BETTER ISSUES TO DEAL WITH OTHER THAN PUTTING SMALL BUSINESSES OUT OF BUSINESS AND MAKING LIFE HARDER FOR US POOR FOLK???? YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I understand the desire to protect children from harmful lead-based paints and other dangerous, poorly-crafted items, and I appreciate government's concern. HOWEVER, clothing does not fit in this category and should therefore be exempt from this safety act. Additionally, the protection of children should be the #1 concern of their PARENTS, who should therefore be allowed to choose to buy second-hand merchandise - clothing as well as toys, books, etc. - if they so desire. Outlawing resale of gently used - but otherwise safe - items will have a HUGE toll on the environment; it would pain me greatly to see so many perfectly usable and lovable items thrown in the trash. Please, understand our position, and reconsider this law. On behalf of parents and children everywhere, THANK YOU.This comment has been reported to the site manager. Keep these things out of our landfil! Help the less fortunate get clothing for their children! This law as orginally written is an example of our government acting by granting favors to eachother and not reading what they are voting for.

Please do not close down consignment shops and such. I buy gently used clothing for both my grandchildren and was planning on the same for my next one coming soon. The shop I was getting the clothes at presented the clothing as almost new looking. This is an awful thing to do in such an economy as we live in today. Please change this law. You are making an already bad economy even worse. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

I know how to make judgement calls in the best interest of my children, and I feel second-hand items are completely safe for them! I particularly purchase second-hand clothing and fear that closing these stores would not only be a financial burden to people and to the economy, but it would also not allow us to reduce, reuse, and recycle! This comment has been reported to the site manager. This cannot happen. We need our second hand stores. Some of us can't clothe our families without them. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

This is part of "Greening of America". I shop thrift stores all the time for my grandchildren and have fun while doing so. This legislation is just ridiculous! This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

In these rough economic times gently used kids clothing is an essential resource for struggling families. Please reconsider this course for the sake of the citizens of this once great nation. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Dear Congressman,My goal is to be a stay at home mother. This means we will be a one income family and I will be the home economist. I recently discovered the world of consignment shop clothing. We will not be able to afford brand new clothing for our children.
Please do not do this. I do not want to have to work outside the home and entrust my children to strangers and daycare just to buy them clothing.

Taking away resale shops will do nothing but harm the consumers. In these times of economic downfall doesn't it make sense to keep these stores open? This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!
