    As a mother of two, I am all about protecting them. But I feel that the laws should be strenghtened about the things manufacturers outsource to other countries to make and return. That seems to be where to problem originates, so why not fix it instead of punishing the rest of us?

    Has anyone in congress truely thought of what this is going to do to our world? Where are all these items going to go? I thought we were supposed to be TRYING to SAVE our environment and not ruin it faster?! How is our enconomy going to be affected by this; or is it a push to make everyone by new to boost the economy? I'm afraid that's NOT going to be the outcome of this!!!

    you guyes need to spend a year or so in the shoes of the people that make just a few dollars on used kids clothes and spend that money on food, some of them have just lost there jobs med .insurance and so on.

    Let us be reasonable. Allow the resale employees to check goods against lists of recalled items to keep them off resale/consignment store shelves rather than forcing them to close permanently. This law makes no sense and is another example of the government mistakenly thinking it can do better than the rest of the population. Let the sellers and consumers be educated and make the decisions, not big government. This sector of the children's product economy is valuable, especially to parents on a budget or who just do not want to waste otherwise quality goods that have a lot of life left in them.

    If these items cannot be re-sold they will be dumped in landfills, or donated to non-profit resource centers in Church basements all across America where they will be given away for free. How do you plan to address the safety of the poor and needy receiving this merchandise? How can you police it? We must put the responsibility back on the ORIGINAL MAKERS of these goods. Grandfather in items made in the past 10 years or so...and then hold the manufacturers responsible going forward.

    This is a crime!! Already there are thousands of families like mine that have to choose between paying the rent and utilities or buying groceries. These are decisions we shouldn't have to make! I work my ass off at a manual labor job that I sometimes feel will certainly prove to kill me. I do it because I owe it to my children to do my best to take care of them. We rely heavily on childrens resale shops. I am not on welfare,why should my kids look like we are? We can't afford to buy all our clothes at full price. I am making an honest living the good ole "American" way. Why should congress give a damn where I buy my kids clothes?

    I am a single mom with no support from my children's father. I have clothed and provided equipment and toys for my two girls almost exclusively through local second hand stores, E-bay, Craigslist, and garage sales. I also pass along and/or trade my gently used equipment and clothes after we no longer have use of them. This law will make it almost impossible for me to clothe or provide for my girls.

    This aspect of the law is crazy and unenforceable. Education about unsafe items is the answer -- not shutting down resale shops and garage sales. Do something to HELP not hinder.

    In an economy like ours, parents need all the help they can get to give their children clothes, toys, and books. Please do not take the opportunity to buy nice things at a fraction of retail price away from us hard-working parents or our children!!

    I am a mother of three who gets all of my children's clothing, toys, etc. at used children's stores and various organizations consignment sales. I was recently laid off of work and can definitely not afford to buy everything my children need new!! Not only are these stores necessary for their employees, owners, and sellers, but it will also have a HUGE impact on families financially (especially in the current economic situation!!) who will now have to pay high prices for new things for their children! If this law includes re-sale stores, sales, and organizations, so many people will be GREATLY impacted. Please think about all of us during this time!!!

    These resale stores are really one of the few ways that I can provide me kids with nice, gently used clothes. Please don't let these resale children's stores close!

    Why can't we do something to stop all of this from happening in the first place. It should not be allowed for makers of clothes and toys to put harmful things into making these items. Why is it okay to buy new toys and clothes with harmful things in them but not okay to purchase from used places. Why is law making and congress such a mess?
