  1. This is ridiculous!!! Do you mean to tell me that with all the mess this country is in Congress is spending their time debating THIS??? I have a friend that I pass clothes down to because they struggle like most of us do and now that may be illegal? WHAT NEXT???? I just don't understand the logic here....It's okay to abort (murder) a baby but not okay to give a child used clothes??? America the free????

  3. This is absolutely insane! If you are telling us we can't sell the clothes second hand because they may be dangerous, then why in the heck were we allowed to buy them in the first place. You should really think about that before you put such a crazy law into place! The economy is struggling enough and now you expect those of us who have lost jobs or losing jobs to fork out money we don't have on much needed clothes for our kids, not to mention the consignment businesses that will have to close across this country further worsening our local economy and adding to the unemployment lines! Please rethink this law immediately! I have never heard of anything so stupid. Are our government officials in touch?

  7. This is really sad, some people don't have the luxury of buying at the mall, this is the only way they can clothe there family.

  9. During these difficult economic times, resale & thrift shops provide us an affordable option for purchasing clothes & toys for our children. We as parents can make the determination if something is safe for our children - resale shops do an excellent job of keeping up to date on current toy recalls & posting this information. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of consumers to be aware of product recalls. Please allow resale and thrift shops to remain in business!! We need them!! In addition, we do not want all these unused toys & clothes to end up as waste in our countries landfills - when they could be put to good use for our children that need them! Please do not harm our environment anymore than we already have! Please save resale & thrift shops - we need them during these difficult times! They provide great opportunities for people! Thank you for taking the time & consideration to hear our concerns!

  11. As a mother of twins, I cannot imagine having to buy exclusively new clothing for my children. I buy second hand clothes for my children not just because it is more affordable but because it is the environmentally responsible thing to do. We live in such a diosposible society where everything is thrown away. I do not feel that There is any harm in reusing clothing. My parents dressed me in second hand clothing and I have not experienced any ill effects caused by this. Please keep in mind that we are in tough economic times and not everyone in the US has the means to go out and spend $10, $20, or $30 per out fit for their children. Also think about the effect this law will have on charity organizations. Millions of families rely on donated clothing for thier children.
This is of the greatest urgency that this bill not be passed as it is written.

  13. My employer owns a resale shop and I also go to school fill-time and if she goes under because of this law I will loose my job, not to mention I also shop for my 5 year old son where I work. I can't afford for resale store's to go under.

  15. We don't all make enough money to purchase brand new clothing every couple of months. You are trying to hurt the economy instead of helping it. Where are people going to turn when they need to find other ways of providing for their family?

  17. Absolutely ridiculous. Consignment shops should not be held liable for what was allowed to be sold in this country. The responsibility should be at the source when it enters our country or by the manufacturers. This will force businesses to close and our landfills will be out of control. Where is our freedom of choice? Where I choose to shop is being taken out of our hands. This is wrong on so many levels.

  19. With all the effort put forth to recycle and go green efforts, why would you oppose well meaning individuals sharing usable items. The economy is in such disarray, and some children and adults would go without, if not for sharing usable items.

  25. Please people! How in the world do such daft,
ridiculous laws get this far? A little common
sense by ELECTED officials would be a nice change! (Isn't this supposed to be an era of CHANGE)? How about using some common sense for a change?!

  27. I clothed my daughter almost entirely in used clothing from the time she was born. She is now 17, has been on high honor roll since 7th grade and is a National Honor Society nominee. I can't believe there was lead in those clothes which effected her in any way. Please put a stop to this silly idea.

  29. With the economy the way it is today, many people will be relying on second hand clothing for their children because that will be all they can afford. I know my daughter would not have a winter coat this year without me being able to purchase one from a resale shop. This is crazy. There are so many other worth while issues that Congress needs to be dealing with right now that I am offended that they are wasting time on something that will further damage the economy and parents ability to provide clothing for their children.

  33. In this economy, some families can only afford to cloth their children with second hand clothes provided by stores and churches. PLUS what is not sold is then given to the poor and needy. Please reconsider!!

  37. With the economy in the shape it in do you want to do this? It going to be hard for the parent tnat have los t their job to clothes their children. Hand me downs are the only way some of them can clothes thier children now. I used them all my life and my children did fine on them!!!!!!!

  39. making laws that will NOT be obeyed weakens the authority of ALL laws and rules and regulations and the state in general. this pretty much shows a lack of competence or diligence on the part of the current crop of legislators...and like the rest of us.. if you do your job badly enough , for long enough either your firm fails.. or you get fired.

  43. With this economy the way it is right now, more people are going to consignment to purchase clothing for their children. Not all consignment clothing are used. There are financially secure people whose children outgrew clothes while only wearing the clothing once or not at all.
