  1. Congress wants to close resale shops but keeps Crack houses in business with weak laws. Go figure!

  3. As a mother of 3 young kids I am CONSTANTLY buying and "passing" on childrens clothes. Many of the clothes I have for my youngest child have barely been worn and would be an utter shame to end up in a dumpster. Consignment clothing has been a wonderful way to share all our blessings. Please keep them legal!

  5. In these hard economic times I have had to buy 80% of my childrens clothes at rummages and consignment shops. This is how we are able to stay in our budget. I have tried shopping the goodwill but there is so much packed in there I cant find anything. I have a rummage every summer which funds my consignment and rummaging for the next years clothes. Please do everything in your power to make sure we are able to continue to save money and use what we little we have to help our family.

  7. This is the worst thing I have heard for taxing the poor. I was raised wearing clothes from these stores and many would go without clothes. Please stop this insanity.

  9. I am a single mother of 3 and I work a full-time job. When it comes time to buy my children new clothes I know that if were not for a certain store that does sell gently used clothes, I would not be able to buy them very much. I am able to walk out of that store spending only $90.00 and carrying 3 huge bags full of clothes for them all. If I were to purchase these clothes brand new it would cost me hundreds of dollars, dollars that I cant afford to spare. I am so thankfull to have found this store and I tell every person I meet with kids about this place. Please tell me that you are not going to make them close their doors. Please dont put me in a position to where I have to tell my kids that they dont get as many new school clothes because they passed some stupid law that closed down where we buy our clothes from.

  11. Children's clothing should be exempt from this law. It's ridiculous. Many parents depend on buying used clothing for their children.

  15. with today's uncertain economy and all families having to control and decrease their monthly expenses how do you think we can continually do this. We certainly aren't going to get a discount on electricity or gas, food prices haven't gone done, insurance rates haven't dropped, and no-one has offered to pay for the gas we use to get to and from work. The only other monthly place to cut back is on clothing. Clothing is extremely overpriced, especially children's clothing. I have 4 girls to clothe and I use the gently used clothing venues every month to put clothes on their backs. I also consignment shops for my own clothing.

If this law is passed the landfills will fill up, thousands of children won't have clothes to wear to school, church, or jackets to play outside. Are the lawmakers going to add a statement that all stores will sell children's clothing at 95% off so everyone can afford them or are they going to give us a clothing allowance each month.

As a last note, so Congress wants to help the economy by closing businesses, therefore putting more people out of jobs, making affordable clothing unavailable to thousands of people, fill up landfills, and for WHAT?????

  17. I love the Christian pre-school that my oldest child currently attends and volunteer at the consignment shop that not only helps us parents earn a little money on gently used items, but it also helps the school and community. This ruling would GREATLY affect this school, community, and the lives of us parents.

  21. I have a 13 month old daughter, and due to the economy as a hairdresser, things have been SLOW!!!! I shop resale shops for children all the time and can not imagine what I would do if I could not purchase anything after Feb 10th, in turn consigning myself her out grown clothes and toys to help others like myself!

  25. This is absolutely ridiculous. Used clothing saves so many families money and makes families of low income purchase clothing and warm coats and other necessities that they otherwise would not be able to afford. The government should concentrate on making stringent guidelines for baby formula safe and not be contaminated with melamine or cynuric acid. All baby bottles should be BPA free. Children do not consume clothing!!!!!!!!!!! What an absolutely ridiculous law. How about a revision... no used clothing store can sell children's clothes without the tags attached on them!!!

Please concentrate on other aspects of children safety other than clothing. Food consumption safety is far more of an important issue. Thank you

  27. Some families depend on these stores for their clothing needs and (WE) Americans should be able to decide for ourselves if we wanted used clothing for our families.

  29. It sounds like the cost of new clothing will go up with this new law because those will have to get tested as well before they are sold. As a young mother in college, I cannot afford all the clothing my daughter goes through in a matter of months at retail prices. If it wasn't for thrift stores, she would have only one or two articles of clothing.
