Keep our public lands accessible by opposing H.R. 1925!

Sign the Petition : 90 Letters and Emails Sent So Far

H.R. 1925, which proposes to ban off-highway vehicle (OHV) access to public lands to those who live and recreate in Utah -- was introduced by New York Representative Maurice Hinchey. However, not a single Representative from Utah is supporting H.R. 1925.

Specifically, H.R. 1925 would designate more than nine million more acres as federally protected "Wilderness," and directly affect the Moab, San Rafael Swell and Chimney Rock areas (to name a few) in Utah. These popular OHV areas represent some of the most important remaining OHV recreation areas in Utah, and are some of the most popular with responsible OHV riders. The proposed Wilderness designation would also make the land off limits to ATV riders, mountain bikers and horseback riders.

Coming on the heels of the recently enacted Omnibus Public Land Management Act, which closed 2 million acres of public lands, this vast Wilderness bill will take away additional recreation opportunities currently enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike.

We need your help now to stop H.R. 1925. Please oppose this bill.

  7. Sustainable land use requires diversity. Just look at the failures of the mono-culture agriculture cropping systems. Sustainability is all about land use diversity. Single use land management policies are not sustainable, just like mono-culture agriculture is not sustainable (e.g., look no further than the Gulf of Mexico hypoxia problems). Landscape diversity and land use diversity is the only sustainable option, NOT the single use or restricted land use strategies imposed by wilderness policies!

  13. These are Public Lands made available for public use and owned by every person in the United States. I am 60 years old and need vehicle transportation to access public lands. What gives you the right to close Public Lands from all users so a few special users can enjoy pristine wilderness. I served in the military to keep this country free, not so a bunch of money grubbers can close the land.

  15. Please inact a Bill that mandates the closing of Central Park to walkers, dog walkers, joggers, or anybody that might breath carbon monoxide into the air.Now that is about as stupid as disallowing ATV's in Utah. That should be a state decision.

  17. Enough of East coast liberals telling us in the west how to use or not use our public lands. I want to see legislation to reintroduce the grizzly bear to Boston like they did wolves to us. Stay out of our business. Our tax dollars pay for this land and your salaries. You're there to represent New York not Utah and surely not the rest of the West. Keep your noses out of our business.
