Tell Congress You Don't Want Costly and Unnecessary Permits for Recreational Boaters
The clock is ticking. Starting in September, the same regulation permits that land-based facilities and commercial vessels must have concerning the Clean Water Act could be standing in your way of that leisurely cruise in the Pacific or that angling weekend on the lake. Fortunately, Senators Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Bill Nelson (D-Florida) have introduced the Clean Boating Act of 2008, permanently securing an exemption for boaters being held responsible for the insignificant amount of engine and deck run-off associated with recreational boating.
The financial impact of this proposed bill could save an industry that could be thrown into turmoil if the more than 12 million boat owners are squeezed into paying for EPA Permits.
Step one was to have representatives willing to protect boaters from unfair costs. The next phase is in our hands; without support, this bill, along with boaters' vessels, could be dead in the water. Please join GoBoating in sending a message to Congress that the Clean Boating Act of 2008 must pass!
