Currently, members of Congress have the ability to ship packages for free, as a perk of their employment.

Months ago, we began a movement to make sure that the same courtesy was extended to our heroes fighting overseas. Initially, the measure was accepted by the Democratic leadership, but it did not last long.

The Democratic Party has stripped the free mail for GI's provision from the appropriations bill, which past petitioners helped create.

However, 20 million dollars will be included for an educational center named for Ted Kennedy.

Congressman Gus Bilirakis has 241 signees who still support the measure, enough to pass it in the House, if he can get Speaker Pelosi to bring it to the floor.

The Congressman will also be lobbying Senators to pass it in the other House of Congress.

Once again, we need your help. Please take a moment to fill out the petition, which will automatically send letters of support to your member of Congress.

The Democratic Leadership stripped the mailing free and added all sorts of personal pork projects, all while they enjoy free mailing.

Shouldn't they offer the same to our fighting, and dying, soldiers overseas?

Please put the "Shipping for Soldiers" funding back into the Defense Appropriations Bill, they deserve it.

    My son is waiting on deployment right now as we speak (Pvt Humpe, Ft. Bliss TX). He will be gone through the Holidays. I have no problem with shipping anything my son needs or wants, but as a freedom fighter for this country, we should we have to pay to get it to him? He's giving of the most important thing his life, he should be entitled to RECEIVING and SENDING mail/packages from/to Home. If they are going to fight for this country, why cant this country fight for them? Congress doesn't have a problem with helping themselves to whatever they need, how about our men and women who pound the sand/ground day in and day out giving them the right to do so. Give back to them in this small way. THEY DESERVE IT!

    We should be able to send the defenders of freedom something for free, afterall, congress gets it for free and they're a long way from defending freedom!

    We are all Americans trying to help the ones that are over there fighting for our families and freedom....GIVE some thought to the ones away from home on the holidays and help us to send things to them from THEIR USA!!
