I am a mother of a soldier in Afganistan and it would great if we could get 1 free mail package a month. I spend about 200.00 a month on food and hygiene products and a free package would be great.

Families and organizations attempting to ship goods to our military have discovered that the cost can be onerous. That should not be a factor in our attempts to make their lives more bearable in the most trying circumstances.

My boyfriend is in Afghanistan and I have only been able to send him 3 packages over a course of his year deployment. Sending packages is so exspensive, ecspecaily when you want to send a nice package.

Do you members of Congress actually think you contribute more to the well-being of this country, and taking less in the process?
As a Senator, you make a top salary, have full franking privileges, and when your voters kick you out you'll still collect a full pension, even if you only served one term. You eat in the finest restaurants, get extensive travel at taxpayer expense and can vote yourselves a payraise when you desire. Meanwhile, soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq sleep in the dirt. In their uniforms. In high, uncomfortable heat. We are simply asking that you provide them and their families ONE of the many benefits you enjoy on a daily basis: The ability to exchange letters and parcels without postage. It's a small price for us to pay in return for what THEY sacrifice on our behalf. PLEASE take this opportunity to show our men and women in uniform and who are serving our country in remote areas just how much we appreciate their efforts to keep America safe. Thank you.

I'm an army wife and buying the things to put in the packages is expensive anough with our paycheck. So paying 50 dollars to ship it is killer!

As a army wife I know that it's so important for our military to receive letters and packages to keep their spirits up and motivated. If this will help the family and friends to be able to send letters and packages then everyone should be willing and wanting to sign this!

This is a good idea, because we get freedom from our military, yet we get nothing but huge debt from Congress. Seems the Capitol Hill idots should be paying, not our war fighters.

I just spent over $80.00 in POSTAGE ALONE - not counting the amount of money I spent buying items for our soldiers. My brother is in Iraq with a contracting outfit and asked me to purchase items like shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste etc. as there is NO PX there for American soldiers to purchase basic necessities! This is just not right! They should not have to wait for family or friends to buy the items then wait for the 3 weeks it takes to get to them! They are fighting for our country; for you and for me. They should be given all these items weekly!! It's not right.

Congress: You must help our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to receive the mail with the "franking rate" you receive on the mail you send to your "constituents". You must support our military as you support yourselves, with free mailing.

I have a brother in the Army. He served in Iraq for 18 months. The mail and packages sent to him and his unit were truly priceless to them. They are doing our country a great service and do deserve a simple gesture to enable them to receive some things from home.

Maybe free would be too costly when you add in all the transportation via air, etc. it takes to get there, but how about $5 or $10 flat rates based on LARGE size boxes?

My son currently is serving in the Gulf in the Navy, he wrote he needed personal item's, ie: soap, toothpaste, deodorant and food. After spending appox over $60.00 on these basics, I now can't afford the $54.00 in shipping because it is shipped to an FPO which cost's more. THIS IS WRONG!!!
I am a single Mom who has been hit extremley hard by this economy and just can't ship it out!!! It is gas in my car to get to my 2 clients or shipping out my MILITARY SON'S PACKAGE... This is SHAMFUL!!!
IF you get free shipping "FRANKING PRIVILEGES" so should our TROOPS..NOW
And NO MORE STALLING, I understand this has been introducted before, what is the delay?
Will it be passed when this UGLY WAR is over!!!
I will be happy to testify on the many disservice's our Active Service Men & Woman are enduring, for example GREEDY STORAGE LOCKERS where are military are storing thier belonings when they are on deployment and if they become late or in araes POOF thier belonings are sold at AUCTION!!! This happen to my son (on deployment) and myself this last July 2009, for only 3 months late, not 9 or 12 months, 3 months!!!
And I try to wok out a deal with the manager he was aware my Navy son'e belonings, currently on deployment were in there!
"To bad, this is a business"
So we all as a nation and especially You the Representative's need to pass more bills on protecting all our Military's NEEDS while they are active. IE: Housing, Storage Lockers, Cars, and FREE MAILING!!!
NO MORE STALLING ACT NOW!!!
That is the RIGHT and AMERICAN WAY!!!
Thank You for Taking Immediate Action on this and other IMPORTANT ISSUE!!!
From a PROUD & GRATEFUL MILITARY MOM
