The amount of discharge from private boats is miniscule relative the amount of dischargefrom land based activities. I highly suggest you look at road sewers and measure
the amount of pesticide, calcium chloride, oil, septic, solid waste and other pollutants which are produced year round that feed our streams lakes and bays.. The boaters are generally more concerned with keeping the waters clean than discharging waste. How about an incentive for clean acts verses another tax/fee !

As an avid boater and fisherman I was shocked to hear that we might have to be permitted by the EPA to stay on the water. With the cost of fuel rising everyday, it is hard enough to by fuel and still pay my monthly bills. If we have to pay for a permit from the EPA, i'm not sure if i can stay on the water and enjoy my boating or fishing. Please help us save our fishing and boating. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!

Overboard discharges from a motorboat are considered "grey water", which, in most states, is considered acceptable for tent campers, as well as homeowners in discharging on to the ground. I feel less regulation is less restrictive, as well as more helpful in assissting an already hurting tourism and recreational economy. This comment has been reported to the site manager. I use one inland lake. I live on this lake. My boat goes nowhere else. Obviously, I should not have to acquire an EPA permit or buy a system to treat ballast water which my boat doesn't even use. I would consider this an extremely expensive waste of money for zero gain toward the intent. Please support S.2766This comment has been reported to the site manager. Senator Levin,Please support the exemption for pleasure boats in the new "Clean Boating Act of 2008. Not exempting pleasure boats will kill the boating here in the Great Lakes. We cannot afford this legislation.
I vividly remember the 10 percent "Luxury Tax" for boats over $100,000. The result of that tax put many small boat yards out of business. Please exempt us from this new legislation.
Sincerly,
John Staats

Please join your fellow senators in co-sponsoring S2776 "Clean Boating Act." If this bill is not approved, recreational boating as we know it will cease to exist. Your small recreational boater will not be able to afford the EPA permits or to comply with the regulations. Currently recreational boaters are struggling with high fuel costs, decreasing access to public waters, and existing environmental regulations. If this bill is not passed, it will be the death of recreational boating for many middle class families. In Broward County, there are 137,000 people employed in the recreational marine industry generating over $11 billion in economic impact for our county. We cannot afford any new federal regulations that would put people out of work in these tough economic times. As you know, Broward County/Fort Lauderdale is the boating capital of the world. If S2776 is not passed, we will be known as the area that use to be the boating capital of the world. Your support of S2776 would be greatly appreciated.

Our lakes have never been cleaner than they are right now since man settled the country.Don't completely wipe out all industry and recreation by compelling citizens to comply with one more non-safety related regulation. I am a working captain on the Great Lakes waterways, and I can state that there much more important pollution causing events in boating, (waste/toilet discharge) that are much more of a concern to the health of the lakes.
Thank you,

Please continue this battle. Additional EPA permitting regulations make no sense to me at all in the face of egregious violations by municipal systems. Boating on Tennessee's many freshwater lakes and rivers is a vibrant and robust part of the economy. Do not stifle this economic asset with overly restrictive regulations. Boating in Tennessee in particular shouldn't require this EPA permitting process because most of our boats are dayboats, leaving little environmental impact. Combined with the added cost of fuel for our boat and vehicle to pull the boat, this really could sway whether or not my family and I continue to be part of Kentucky's great boating experience. We feel like we our very responsible on the water when it comes to the Env. Health of our lakes and waterways. Implementing more permits (and consequently more costs) to utilize our lakes and rivers will more than likely force us to seriously reconsider boating as a summertime recreation for our family. Our family asks you to please support the Clean Boating Act of 2008.

As a water based state, Illinois should encourage and promote fun recreational boating, not a restricted, permitted, and governmental chore. We should do things to promote the use of the Mississippi River, Lake Michigan, and the other countless lakes and rivers A better use of governmental monies is to research ways to reduce dumping land based garbage in the lakes and oceans. That material goes in a land fill to develop ski slopes or other recreational developments, or a recycling system to make the waters cleaner and boating even more enjoyable. Our governmental spending is already an issue. To add another duty to an agency, that I am sure is already busy, will require more spending in enforcement officials and clerical personnel than a reasonable permit fee will provide. To charge accordingly and cover the expenses, will devastate the industry that is already being choked and will suffer this year due to the "gouging" fuel prices. Which is another area where the goverment should focus efforts and let well enough alone. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. This again is insane goverment. recreational boating has little or no effect on the waterways, except the trash the leave behind on beaches and sandbars and there are already laws against that just enforce them, put the blame where it belongs, on large commercial boats. soon we'll all need an epa permit to use the restroom. This is just another attempt to pass the cost on to the working middle class. I know our state waters are very important to the health and wellfare of the residents of Oklahoma. I feel if this bill is not passed, the small communities and businesses that rely on our recreational boating industry will be detrimentally impacted. We are a typical middle class family that works hard to be able to afford one of Minnesota's geatest assets - our beautiful lakes. As gas, oil and other expenses continue to increase, adding a permit fee will is another step towards reducing the amount of time we can spend on the water which is already going down. As third generation boaters in Minnesota we feel the permit requirement misses the point by including small pleasure crafts. My family, as much as all of the other citizens that visit the great lakes in our state including the Great Superior want clean water. Please help keep this great tradition strong and encourage legislation that focuses on the big picture and not one that is over encompassing and punitive to many. This comment has been reported to the site manager. I am a long time NJ boater and voter. NJ is expensive enough without additional permits and fees. Please restore the exemption for recreational boaters. I see no real logical explaination for charging a citizen for rainwater that runs off the deck of his 21' family boat. Please have some common sense and some consideration. This comment has been reported to the site manager. It will be reviewed and removed if inappropriate. Thank you!
